One year ago I stopped by and offered the opinion that Magdalene Wong is a gift from God, for only He knows the uncountable mulititudes whose lives have been enriched and enhanced by her extraordinary contributions to the musical world.
Again, tonight, I revel in the glorious music this magician can coax from the hands of amateurs. Once more, I'm thrilled and moved to tears. Dazzling!
As for music of the night, the different stanzas could have taken varying textures to make the overall experience more rich. Key raise should have been more dramatic. For example, 2:06, the ensemble could have entered with tremolo to signal a new 'sub-chapter' to the song.
Balance between the harmony and melody could be better also.
I felt that the overall dynamics could be handled better - it's adapted from a renowned musical; perhaps more of the singing styles could be incorporated into the playing. E.g., from 1:47 to 1:56, the melody was repeated thrice, the third time could have been a subeto piano.
The ensemble could also have been more assertive in the articulation - syncopation in the first part (Phantom of the Opera Overture) could have been played with more character and dynamics again could be more pronounced.
and your point is....? that a bronze means the students' performance is lousy? We do not suscribe to a medal mentality.. we do not allow our worth to be dictated by a panel of "ïmported" judges...whether they are competent enogh or not to judge guitar playing... Half the group are beginners and they have contributed a lot of time and effort to practise. For their love and passion in guitar playing, I give them each a Gold!
arh, dun jump to conclusions. i didn't say that hwach GE cannot make it. all i'm trying to say that such a piece is accorded bronze is quite wasted ^.^ nvm, kip up the hard work! lots of school for this yr's syf all bronze, cept for meridian. and a handful of silver.
Wish I could have watched you all in person. They are fabulous! What a good job you have done with them. They watch you very well! Very beautiful and enjoyable and entertaining!
