  • to the lovely ladies .. who are named <Maria .. ya got love it

  • @ItsMindTrippping Thanks a lot..Gratzie mille..Muchas Gracias...Ciao, Adios, Bye Bye..Peace via Music VIVA MARIA!

  • @ItsMindTrippping I think that most ladies named Maria, are that, ladies..Faithful, fun, loving all those around her especially children, parents, grandkids, etc..& Very Musical! Ciao..Adios Bye Bye. VIVA MARIA!

  • To tell the truth, I found this version to be very disappointing. He has a breathtaking voice, don't get me wrong, but he kind of ruins the number by making it sound to much like a pop song. "Maria" is supposed to be a dreamy, balletic love song, almost a lullaby. But Johnny sings it very syncopated and jazzy. Great voice, but I think his version of "Maria" butchers the song.

  • @petespanchos I think we are truly blessed to be living in the time of Johnny Mathis. It's interesting how we can hear things differently, to each his own. .

  • @petespanchos you must be mad this is the best ever version.

  • @petespanchos - This is recorded from his live performance - which I witnessed - nothing was lost - if you really appreciate his talent...

  • @petespanchos Its true that Johnny did bring the tempo up by adding a jazzy tilt to the song, it was to be expected as it was meant to appeal to the pop listening audience. Mathis first released this song on LP in 1959, a year or 2 before the movie was released. For myself, this is the first & best version I ever heard - I was 5 years old and shared a bedroom with my elder brother's who played Johnny's music at night. I fell asleep every night to the songs, Maria & Tonight from "Faithfully LP"

  • Johnny's way of singing MARIA is a religious experience...His voice is so clear, profound and spine tingling...I take it personally, because my name is MARIA...peace, love and a smile.

  • @magcarril What a compliment you pay to Johnny. He sang this back in 1972 in a live performance in Las Vegas. I think his voice is still great,

  • @conyelp We bothagree he's the best...it takes someone who truly appreciates melody, harmony and rhythm, the three components of music to understand what a great voice, we've had the priviledge of hearing and he of sharing...Peace via Music, VIVA MARIA!

  • @magcarril Yes we do and very well stated on your part. Not everyone is going to like Johnny's interpretation of a song but then there are those of us in that very unique group who find it difficult to put into words our appreciation of his style. I hope we are able to have him with us for many more years to come.

  • @conyelp AMEN!!!

  • Nobody sings "Maria" better than Johnny. He's the greatest. I haven't heard him sing it live for many years.

  • No one sings Maria (my first name) like Johnny.......

    Second best is Josh Grogan

  • crystalita51, Maria is a beautiful name and I agree, no one sings it like the incomparable Johnny Mathis.

  • my favorite song MARIA! from the golden voice of J.M...there's nothing like it! memories, memories! thank you Conyelp for posting...God Bless!

  • russianovsky2000, yes this is a beautiful song and especially when sung by Johnny. I think this was one of his best live concerts ever. I've uploaded several songs from it. Thanks for dropping by.
