When you do this it interferes with your voicemail on the iphone. you will not see your voicemails on your iphone when you do this. the only way to retrieve your messages would be to press and hold the 1 button on the keypad to hear your messages but you will not be notified that they are there. it doesnt hurt your phone but you will not know you have messages in waiting.

I hope you know that mobile viruses exist and when this download requests your password it could be the website storing crucial network information and it connects you via telnet. Via telnet they can ask for your password as if they are the system. I won't take any chances just because I can make my own mobile configuration file. I recommend you do the same.

Also, just so you know this isn't necessarily hacking but I know what you intended (cracking) and this is cracking...so it is still dangerous I hope you are aware that there are these things called Mobile Viruses that affect your phone.

You aren't going to get charged for it. This is a form of jailbreaking because it gains unauthorized to a configuration file that changes settings within the iphone. So, it is like jailbreaking. The only reason it isn't fully because you didn't remove any files that check for the apple signature.
