@cassetteman1 I can't see any reason why your USB microphone wouldn't work. Double check to make sure you've got the right usb cable to connect the microphone to the DAT, the device has a USB type B connection (you can see it at the 46 second mark in video)
@cassetteman1 I apologize, I think I misunderstood your question. This will work as an external sound card for a computer, if you use the USB. You can run a USB from the computer to the DAT, then plug speakers/headphones in to the DAT.
I bought a Toshiba 55sl417u LED backlit LCD TV which has only DIGITAL audio outputs. In order to input the audio to the RCA jacks of my Sherwood receiver I bought a small DAC. The DAC seems to have specs that are compatable (20-20KHz response, >80 db s/n, < .1% THD, PCM tosslink input, RCA outputs, etc). However, when hooked up I get only a "sputtering" noise from my stereo. I tried inputting the DAC directly from the optical-out of my cable box (toss link) with the same results.

Hmm, my TV has USB ports on it. Is it possible to power the DAC with one of those ports while using it to convert the digital optical signal to analog?
@cyih8u Check your TV's owner manual to see if the USB port allows for audio output and power draw. Some TVs have USB access but only for firmware updates, etc, and don't always allow power to pass through for other devices. This converter does come with a wall wart though, so if you can't power it via the TVs USB port, a wall plug will do just fine.
@partsexpressdotcom Okay, I'll have to check that out. I believe it does give power now come to think about it because I have a dongle plugged into one of the USB ports for streaming with wifi and it powers up.
My TV has digital optical audio output but my stereo doesn´t have audio inputs, it only has a USB input. Is it possible to connect my TV to my stereo?
Hey will this work with my apple tv 2nd gen? i hooked up the hdmi from the apple tv to my TV, but my soundsytem does not have optical audio since its about 20 years old, and i paid $15,000 for it 20 years ago thanks
continued... however I was thinking of connecting them to my PS3, but only by using a game adaptor (my 3 connections to white/red) can i do so, but this does not give true surround sound.. IS their a way to connect my speakers (optically somehow?) to my PS3 to get real surround sound? thanks
I think I may be being stupid but here is my problem: I bought a logitech X-530 surround sound system whose only connections are the green/black/pink analogue ones (I think they are analogue - one for fron, one rear and one for the bass). I connect these to my laptop via an external sound card which works fine and gives me real surround sound when i use them for films etc.. tbc
i have a subwoofer that has red and white inputs but my lg tv doesnt have the outputs will this work for me on the back of the tv has rgb/dvi and optical digital
anybody know if this will work on my situation.. ok i have a sorround system. the subwoofer has a red and white inputs but my new lg tv doesnt have the red and white white "outputs" behind my tv it has the rgb/dvi option and the optical digital option . will this work for me???
@freshyweshy409 Most devices can supply an analog output direct to the subwoofer while the digital (optical or HDMI) signals are in use.Typically you would connect from the source direct to the subwoofer.
If that's not an option, and the optical TV out is all you can use, the Digital to Analog Audio Converter Optical / Coaxial / USB would be your best option. Make sure all of the source components (TV included) are set to PCM output. Turn all surround sound options off.
so would this give me 5.1 srounnd sound for my xbox 360? I have a 5.1 sround sound system that dont have a optic cable input. The back of my sround sound system a a FR FL C RL RR inputs. So just one cable could hook up the 5.1?
I've been trying to get my DAC to work but nothing i do seems to work. I'm trying to get the audio from my dvd player & regular analog cable signal to go through the tv, out the toslink optical output on the tv & into my old stereo with the RCA input (No optical input available). I do not want to buy a new stereo, but i did buy this DAC but i cannot get the sound to work. I was told that the DAC only does PCM audio, but i dunno how to set my tv to output to PCM audio.
This can work with my USB Studio Microphone?
Thank,
Joe

@whiteshadowboy
Hello,
This will not provide surround sound, it is just a 2 channel converter and not capable fo 5.1 processing.

@EDGAR15ish Hello,
As long as the TV can be set to output PCM audio, then this converter will indeed work.

@partsexpressdotcom My tv has a optical out but my logitech 506z speakers only has RCA ports (red and white) would this do the trick?
Lewis8824 8 months ago
@Lewis8824 Absolutely but if your tv doesn't have a built in amp you would still need to run it through an amp or receiver than to your speakers.
partsexpressdotcom 8 months ago
@partsexpressdotcom would it be 5.1
Lewis8824 8 months ago
@Lewis8824 This unit does not produce 5.1.

do you have a "DAC" that outputs in 5.1 channel? what i mean is that there are 5 audio outs jacks.
