  • @bookmaster89 yes its from take 5

  • looks like i cant try to get private lessons from him anymore in NY .....=( RIP JOE

  • Thank you Joe for the the greatest drum lesson ever! 8/11/07 It seems like it was yesterday. It was supposed to be for one hour and three hours later the lesson was over. We talked about different drummers, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson etc... Joe signed a drum head and a few photos for me. I learned alot about drumming and made a great friend. He was truly a nice person and one of the greatest drummers ever. Rest in peace my friend. Forever the man, Forever a fan...

  • RIP Joe.

  • Now THATS the ultimate of kool!!!!

  • That was some wicked cross over drumming. Morello is a drumgenius and a pleasure to watch-may he live another 100 years.

  • Great upload. Great drummer.

    Larry, Taiwan

  • yeah . thanks, thats right he is a true genius

  • check out the finger technique at 1;48...

Buddy did this as well,... hard as hell, yet I keep trying..

    ah someday.

  • HELL YEA. THAT'S what I'm talking about. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts.

  • I guess this was during Take Five?

  • Fantastic solo!

Joe is the drummer on my radar lately. I'm trying to find as much as I can. His solos are like good stories. Soo much groove really makes me move. Puts a smile on my face. Go Joe Go.

  • Joe Morello and Buddy Rich are what you can call the consummate masters. Neither is better than the other, they are equally Godlike in their own interpretation of jazz and swing drumming. No one blows me away like those two. Simply amazing.

  • This cat must have gotten so much ass in his day with those chops! You can see the dame in the background practically creaming her panties!

  • @jdrummys great observation

  • You are brilliant. So how do they make the visual strikes match up with the music?

  • easy, the music sound kinda more fast sometimes ^^

  • @Sh1ruro just watch the people in the background all the time and u will see something wrong. Joe Morello is great! but this video is not 100% real

  • keep looking...

  • Superb

  • I grew up listening to a lot of Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich from my teacher as a kid, but man this video just changed my life! So great!

  • Joe Morello, master of stick manipulation! I saw him in clinic at Guitar Center in Hallandale Fl way back.Absolutely forget about it!The guy was 1/2 blind but those one handed/fingered roll's blew us away! Was anyone there for that session?Agora/Button S..Chirs!

  • This is the drum's god, no words!

  • buddy rich is faster. but this is better.

  • i don't know if it's slower or not. but it's lot better

  • :-)

Speed is for sports, the greatest music don't have an upper or lower speed limit.

  • Nice style, and nice silver sparkle kit.

  • Joe Morello actually looks like he has better chops than buddy. When he's doing those single strokes, you can see that he's using solely the rebound, he doesn't really pull the sticks up at all. Buddy's technique isn't as amazing. You can see that he grips the sticks more tightly and forces it a little bit more. However, Buddy is fast as hell and can get around the kit like nobody's business.

  • How does he move his left hand that fast? It's like A PERFECT ROLL WITH ONE HAND

  • i met the guy that this guy tought for like his whole life, its this cool technique with like accepting the rebound, idk how to tell you. but yeah. its pretty cool.

  • he knows how to bounce the sticks, if you play drums and want to learn that technic I recommend to you the clinic of Jojo Mayer secret weapons for the modern drummer also get the books of George L. Stone "stick control for the snare" and "accents and rebounds" and apply the clinic of Jojo Mayer into that books and practice a lot!!!!

George L. Stone was the teacher of Joe Morello and his second book accents and rebounds was dedicated to Joe Morello.

Sorry for my english it's not so good lol!

  • Thanks a lot

  • Jojo Mayer is great, and now that you mention it, stylistically he does seem to have a lot in common with Joe Morello and Papa Joe Jones etc...

  • a true master of irregular metres

  • And I thought that I was a drumer.... simply terrific!!!

  • Joe is as great a person, as he is a drummer!

  • Great drums..Great year to be born in!!!

  • What is the name of this video? where to get this, do you think this recording features with the 1964 sounds of the loop solo.

  • its take five I think, from Dave Brubeck

  • The sticks in his hands are like a pen in the hand of Shakespeare.

  • hahahaha ,good one !!!!

  • @goback3spaces except that he can play without them

  • i know nothing about drumming but i know this guy is incredible

  • one word... AMAZING!!!

  • I'd have to say or guess, this is what influenced Bonham in his "Moby Dick" solo

  • I agree, I was a HUGE bonham fan as a teenager but after seeing 'this' the diiference is incomparable. Joe does these amazing single handed rolls, sometimes tripples or quads, very VERY cool!!!!

  • I'd say 'Take Five', that's 5/4 time he's playing in.

  • I think it's "castilian drums". It's also a 5/4 song with a drum solo, and "take five" usually has the piano and bass vamp behind the drums.

  • Drum solo from 'Take Five'?

  • yeah man, you got it!!!

  • I beg to differ... That may be "Far more drums" from the album Adventures in Time.

  • technique, creativity, and TASTE! 6 stars!

  • bloody brilliant he is another drum god

  • This is amazing

  • indeed

  • oh yes i agree
