I ended up switching the masked layer from a movieclip symbol into a graphic symbol and giving it a motion tween within the timeline. But I have a feeling there was something else I could have done to make it work your way.

but i cant fill the box i created using pen tool as each time i select it with selection tool it only select a line and hence fill box doesnt pop up.

well i found the answer frnd. when u draw a figure with pen tool just select that by selection tool or selcting frame in the timeline and directly fill with fill bucket. draw another and then do same once all figures are selected THEN ONLY mask. it will work.

I can't fill in the pen shape that was created.. no matter what I do.. it won't let me fill. The shape is closed and all of it is selected... aarrggh
