  • me too. i hate fire drills i try to ask when we are going to have them but none of the teachers know. the office does a drill when ever they feel like it. the fire alarm is super loud too it sounds like a whistle blowing in your ear. when it goes off everyone jumps, even the teacher. also there is a fire alarm like every ten feet and in enery classroom. in elementary there was only one fire alarm in a hallway and none in the classrooms.

  • talk to ur principal or whoever is in charge of the fire drills and see if he can let u go out around a few minutes before it.

  • I am slightly scared of fire drills. It's not the alarms, but just that first second when it goes off makes you just jump up.

  • @ninjamonkey39 I feel exactly the same way!!

  • Mostly i know when the fire drills are cause I know the principle and I can see the signs like you can see gym liniing up or the special Ed kids walk out if I just take a deep breath and just let it happen it is fine

  • youre not the only one but now the alarms in my school are not that loud but even when they say they are testing the alarms i panic even though i have fire alarms

  • I am scared to death by fire drills your not the only one out there. mostly in science class im scared because i can see the alarm right from my seat and if i hear like a timer or a beep go off im startled half to death even though the actual alarm didnt go off

  • @voteforsocks45632 EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS TO ME!!!!!

  • i'm in 7th grade and i am scared half to death of fire drills this was the 3rd day of school and i'm panicing about a fire drill because every time the class gets silent i think there will be a fire drill and i get terrified and cover my ears because i don't like to be startled there hasn't been one yet but they usually do it on the first week i hope they tell us right before it happens like they always do on the first 1 OHHHHHHH

  • @Thepinkfloydmaster I'm in 7th grade, too, and this is the same thing always happens to me.

  • Count me among the masses who hated fire drills in school, there were occasions in elementary school where we had two drills in one day (where I am, we did three a year). They were always announced, and I always felt sick to my stomach - it was especially worse in grades 4 and 6 when I was in a portable both those years and the horn was right in the room. Drills weren't announced in high school, however I still covered my ears when the alarms went off

  • I know what you mean. I used to be really afraid of not the fire drills itself, but the alarms did. I used to have sensitive hearing due to a tube in my ear, and it was horrible. I know a few tips. 1. Let your teacher know that you are afraid of the alarms or the drill, or both. 2. Sit closer to the evacuation area. 3. Know when they wont occir. For example, it may not happen during lunch or when you at recess. And finally, 4. Drills may happen when your in the bathroom, and you wont wsnt that

  • The old fire bell gongs use to scare me in elementary and in high school

  • All my life i've been deathly afraid of fire drills and it's hard NOT to get startled if they go off. I'm in college now, but not at a university so where I go there may not be a fire drill as often as in a bigger college with dorms.

  • Buddy,I have been through Fire Drills alot and when I was In Lynnwood Elementary School I used to Help my Principal and Janitor set off the fire alarm and one of alarms are near the main entrance so I set it off but continue doing your work and when the alarm goes off cover your ears or you can talk to your principal or Janitor and see if you can help out when a fire drill occurs then heat out before everyone else

  • I understand what you mean. i afraid of fire drills and i am adult, When I was in school it was 1at one all the time. 3rd one was next one that happen about half the time. the 2nd hardly ever happen.

  • I remember one time when I was in 5th grade a student had pulled the firealarm. The firealarm had a high/low sound. It sounded like Bodobodo. My classroom was in a portable. I jumped out of my seat and ran to the front. We would always go out the back door for a firedrill. Just as I opened the door my teacher grabbed me and kept hold of me until the whole class was out the door.

  • I was afriad firedrills too. I'm the same way.

  • I was afriad firedrills too.

  • I totally get your fear...My elementary school had a LOUD 9838 that still gives me chilling feelings sometimes...I even had a situation when the alarm went off unexpectedly when burnt popcorn set it off and I couldn't reenact how hard it made me jump. Quite a few teachers (especially in middle school) let me out ahead of time so I wouldn't have to be in the building when it went off...my ability to focus is shot if I am anticipating a fire drill but once the dust settles it's alright

  • im in a program @ my school that has to do with broadcasting the announcements over the tv's and the supervisor tells us if theres going to be a fire drill so that we know while we're in the studio.

  • exact same way have ocd too feel the same way as u bro

  • I'm with you guys I hate loud noises

  • Omg

I Am So Scared Of Fire Drills

Better Yet I Can Predict Them Too!

    We are like TWINS!

  • I know what you are coming from I am a senior in high school and still afraid of them. What I do is check the weather report and see what days are going to be warm, because fire drills happen when the weather is nice and sunny not rainy or cold. THEY ARE SCARY that first second it goes off I get really scared after that it just sinks in.

  • Im the same way and this year im going to a new school so I dont even have an experience of how loud it is or how it sounds. but I have to just deal with it. And I dont want to embarass myself and ask can I go outside or something before it goes off.

  • As for scenario #2 if you hear keys after they've had a fire drill that same month just ignore it as they usually only have it once each month.

  • @Gb755c At some schools I went to they had them more then once a month. One time a school I went too had a fire drill two days in a row.

  • I too have anxiety attacks when it comes to fire alarms. Anytime a store like Walmart would announce that they'd be testing the alarms, I'm always out the door before they go off. When I was in school. I had the same reaction. Back in my day we had like 2 in the fall and 1 in the spring while in grade school. The 2nd fire drill occurred during Fire Prevention Week. And I knew exactly what day it took place, Wednesday around 10:00 before or after. Tornado drills, no problem

  • I know how you feel. I have been afraid of fire drills since first grade and I still am. I had a nasty experience in '93 with either a simplex 4040 or 4050. The first time I heard one of those horns just mentioned it scared me half to death. The company I work for has me employed out at UPS, and they have similar horns for signaling purposes. The noise still get to this day.

  • Wow! I used to be exactly like that! Same

  • DUDE! This used to (and still sometimes does) happen to me all the time. Especially when I'm in lunch or PE because there are more fire alarms there. In my 3rd grade year, someone would always take me out right befor there was a fire drill. I ended up getting some noise-cancelling headphones that would block out the noise. Also I dud a few science fair projects on fire alarms, and got into learning about them. Check out my videos to see some fire alarm stuff I've done.

  • Wow. It's not just me.

  • I have A really huge Aphobia about Fire Drills I hate them. I only like some of the horns like the charm horns.

  • I hate fire alarms! I hate being in buildings with fire alarm systems! I hate loud noises!

  • i used to be scared of them and i still am i used to sit and worry about it all day but now when it happens it happens

  • in kidnergarton - 4th grade when ever we would have a fire drill i always that it was a real fire, but now i'm 13 in7th grade i'm use to it mow. At my school we have 1 fire drill every month!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, kid I kno exactly wat your goin through. I'm 18 and I still have a fear of fire drills/alarms. I can relate to the first 2 scenarios cause they usually have the fire drills the same time every time they have them. and usually we hear that were gonna have 1 before it happens The anxiety gets 2 me 2 What u could do is find out what kinda fire alarm you have at school, look it up on youtube & listen to wat sound it makes 'til your comfortable with it. I understand that It's a startling noise.

  • you arent the only one afraid of drills. until i got to 5th grade, i was SO afraid of fire drills. now, i got over it and im fine and i think u should too. its for safety its just a noise.

  • I have the same problem. What is funny is that I am interested in fire alarms, the problem is the anticipation. I onetime had a bad experience when a student said "where going to have a fire drill at 1:15!" 1:14 comes I am covering my ears, then minutes later someone announced over the intercom "The scheduled fire drill has been cancelled." I just wanted it to be over because it is once a month. Now I really like unannounced fire drills because there is no anticipation.

  • go to simplex 4010 and click one of those and see what my fire alarm sounds like

  • well my school is having a fire drill friday at 9:00 i'm in middle school now we go to school at 7:38

  • omg at my school mine is soo bad i have to go to the nurses ofice and its so bad my mom makes me go to conseling because of it..i totally know where u are coming from and if u eva wanna talk just message me. talk to ur nurse and ask if u can go there like 9 mins before it goes off and go with her...it helps me alot.

  • i have the same problem when i know.

some times you can hear the horn 3 sec before the class room

  • hey i understand ur feelings when there is going 2 be a fire drill. i feel the same way. GOD I HATE THOES DAMNED THINGS!!!

  • I am afried of fire drills my slef i try to figer out the day there going to have it and i pretty mutch always right. i perdict buy weath and if the teacher is consently looking at the clock on the wall. i am an adlut.

  • What I do to predict a fire drill is look at the weather and see if the temperature is right and that if there is going to be any sun out.

  • all of you guys are lucky to go outside during a fire drill. when i have a fire drill, i have to go to what is called the special ed safety room. i have to travel through one hallway, where the fire drills there are not so bad. but wen i get to the right hallway where sped saftey room is. the fire drill get really loud. and everytime i'm in the room. i have to listen to the fire drill as more kids are walking into the room. f course though in the room, the fire drill only flashes.

  • @april4608 it would suck to be in your place.

  • @Tuber274 that was actually about 2 years ago when i was a freshman, now i am a junior and things have changed a bit so now i am able to go outside when there is a fire drill so i am sure happy to able to go outside when there is a fire drill!

  • If there was a fire could you pull the fire alarm?

  • hell no

  • My legs shake when im out side. I have the same fobia and i got oveer with it with consuling!

  • im scard when it first comes on

  • im afrid too!!!! i even elemanate the days to find the day it happens!!!! im always right!!! its anoing!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I an afried of firedrills my slef and I am in adult and i have been since i was a kid in school the frist and thrid one happen most offen.

  • Oh, and also, the first scenario is EXTREMELY common at my school. It happens every fire drill.

  • My school has a Wheelock AS. It's loud even on low volume. I only don't cover my ears so I don't look like a lemon. It's not really that bad. The only thing I don't like about fire drills is "There better be a fire, or I'm going back in with the pliers"

  • i had a fire drill today and yes the alarms are anoying

  • When I have a fire drill (and I know about it) I get scared too. The best thing to do is if you KNOW that there'll be a fire drill is talking to your teacher(s) about going outside BEFORE the alarm actually rings. (usu. 5 minutes). MAKE SURE that you get the correct time and day so you don't go out in the cold or heat when there isn't gonna be a fire drill. I do that at my school all the time and sometimes when all the students are quiet, I cover an ear thinking that the alarm might ring.

  • I know how you feel, because whenever the class is so quiet, I always had this weird feeling that a fire drill is gonna happen, and it scares me, and I end up jumping a little bit, but then again, there were like three fire drills this month, two of them weren't even planned, so, yay! no school for about a half hour! lol

  • my alarm at school isnt that loud

  • lucky

  • Dude I know ho you feel. sometimes people make fun of me when I cover my ears. But the simplex true alert fire alarms are loud even in the class room so your lucky

  • right with you. are simplex true alert is like a costant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

  • @generalfannumber1 they can be set like that but they are usally are like beep beep beep and then a pause and then it does it again. they are very loud one time i was reading and it went off and i chucked my book at it.

  • @TheIzharp I know how you feel. My school has a System Sensor SpectrAlert. I jump when i hear it. Each of my classrooms are actually rooms with doors. There are no alarms in the rooms. Whenever it happens, relax, its most likely a drill. As soon as you hear it, cover your ears! Always works for me. Trust me, you'll get used to it...

Btw, I wear hearing aids so I get the full blast. Having hearing loss has its ups and downs...

  • im lucky at my school when thars a fire drill they just say it with out the alarms

  • lucky. in elementary school mr.burden the princ. told us but idk abut mr.wolfle. i know the dont tell you about it in middle school of high school

  • I have ocd and I'm deathly afraid of fire drills!

  • @craze710 @craze710 Hey, this is exactly what happems to me. in a way, it would almost be better if the bells went off with no warning! every time theres a workmen working on the alarms, I'll panic. your not alone i

  • so i am i ah its going of now

  • i used to be deathly afraid of fire drills so i know how u feel. for me too, it was the anticipation. also my ears are mad sensitive. thank god the sound doesn't travel well from the halls to the classrooms and that there are no bells in the classrooms

  • lol its not the loud bells that scare me its the constant shushing. the bells used to scare me

  • Well I talk to teachers and see what class im going to be in then I just cover my ears and get startled Im VERY afriad of firedrills also so I know how you feel.

  • I'm more like scenario 2 I usually cover my ears before a fire drill

  • i undstand be afried of ffiredrills myslsf because i am still afried off them my slef.

  • dude that's my he said she said strategy.

    anyways, i hate fire drills.

the first fire drill i had this year, it was actually a fire.

  • Hey bro.

I don't know how like... to deal with the anticipation, because that is definitely the worst. I just bite my nails, and try like hell to concentrate.

But I guess what you can do if you know, is just focus more on something else. I mean, the first blare always startles me, but after that, I know what's coming, and it doesn't seem so bad. Maybe let your teachers know, and they can let you know right before... I dunno.

  • when I was a kid, fire drills scared the crap out of me too. I was terrified of them. I'd panic if I knew one was coming.. and I wouldn't be able to focus all day because of the anticipation.

  • The good news is that the loudness of the fire horns cannot be altered by the maintenance folks. It's a switch on the back of each horn, and they would have to unscrew each one and reset the switch. Since the level is set by the installer to meet certain fire alarm code requirements, it would actually be illegal to change it. So, it will always be the same volume.

  • how do you know all this stuff?

  • It's one of the things I do for a living. And to clarify it a bit, only the newer (last 15 years) electronic horns have a high/low switch. The older electro-mechanical horns don't have one. They're just loud and obnoxious all the time.

  • well, some vibratory, and electro-mechanical horns have volume screws (ie. simplex 4040,4050,4051, wheelock AS,MS, etc), and not all electronic horns have high/low switches (ie. simplex true alert series), but yes, you do have a good point.

  • Hey buddy I can tell you one thing, when you are old enough to drive that whole key juingling thing is going to sound like FREEDOM to you. :) On the fire drill subject...is it just the noise of it that scares you? I mean we had the same bell for fire drills that we had for changing rooms every hour when I was in school. Of course it only came on for like five to ten seconds to change rooms versus staying on like ten minutes during the fire alarm.

  • At the school I went to for kindergarten, we didn't have bells for fire alarms! We just had bells for class-change. We had buzzers for fire alarms!
