Awesome! The story is that some out of touch old Republican fool in charge of organizing this was asked by assistants who to book; Senator Old Fool said Colbert, as he was supposed to be an up and coming pundit and very funny... No clue it was a comedy show! Apparently the wife and kids watched Stewart- Colbert and it al eluded Old Fool! Stewart later said " huge balls of pure heat treated Titanium. He was right!
A good, even-handed roast, actually. By that point Dubya was ready, or had already, fired Rumsfeld & stopped listening to Cheney, & started listening to the Army generals about the surge. He couldn't fire Greenspan however.
The reason the people at the dinner didn't laugh is because the comedy wasn't meant for them. Colbert's audience was the people who are watching on tv or on the internet, which is one of the reasons he is such a great comedian. He knows who he wants to please. :)
If you don't want to be lambasted in a satirical fashion, don't bring a political satirist on the dais. The uncomfortable look on Bush' face makes this video, all the better, in my opinion.
@OcularPolitics I remember years back when Don Imus spoke at that dinner in 1996. He roasted President Clinton and his wife as well as a few other folks pretty well. And it was pretty funny too.
@Puppybutcher Agree on both counts. I honestly didn't know what to expect from Seth, given his association with the mostly-terrible SNL, but he was awesome.
@Puppybutcher Colbert and Meyers did different kinds of bits.
Yes, Meyers was funnier (he really was... please watch if you haven't seen it), but he was also a somewhat left-wing performer going at a Democrat administration. I'm going to say that Colbert was more courageous, though.
@Puppybutcher No question, Seth was funnier. He was, however, a left-leaning comedian kidding a Democrat President. Colbert had a comedy assignment as hard as anything I can imagine.
I dont think I have ever seen a more clever and well delivered roast....

Best, most useful, constructive, poignant stand-up comedy ever. The one big highlight in an otherwise ugly, stupid and irresponsible 8 years .

Hope all is well in the Colbert camp. Us Texans have taken a lot of flack, and I am proud to have such a staunch defender. Gomert 2016!
