Crazily good! Everyone needs to HEAR this! Why don't they play good music like this when they're postulating and jesticulating in places like the senate, maybe a few words might get through . . ani makes me believe in the human race and that evolution of opposbale thumbs wonn't the end of the world!
I love Ani, such passion! Her songs have such meaning! Please check out my song "Strength Through Peace". I wrote it for Dennis. You can also hear it on the "Kucinich Weekly Campaign Update"
Love Ani for saying such great things about D Kucinich. I agree: "I love that man." I love him and his wonderful heart and his 40 years of political service. He's got my vote.
Hmmm... she is not happy, huh? ... Wow... You must know her pretty well...
And you know, you must be right! Every single woman who I've EVER known with a guy and kids is SO wonderfully happy! That must be the cure for unhappiness...
Women are great, and children are a delight, but passing judgement on the way someone lives is sad...
self absorbed turd, feel sorry u cannot see the bigger pix...so so sad, but how typical...you can't see or hear the message thru your armor of ignorance..........................find some dignity and integrity...asking too much...yes i suppose but one has to hold out hope, what else do we have
Awesome performance. I love Ani, and Kucinich! Check out our site for an interview with Kucinich. The fact that he took aside the time to do this interview just reinforces Ani's declaration of him as a real public servant.
"Let's just face it. . " thanks to Rove-Cheney-Bush-Rumsfeld & let's not leave out mastermind Attorney, Libby, America has embraced an immoral compass, allowed incompetent/corrupt leaders & an overtaxed/disorganized military to assume leadership positions at home & in the world.
Seriously, how shameful do our homeland/world actions need to become before we take action to rectify & repair our broken nation and restore the constitution?
Ani DiFranco is a lyrical genius. It's a shame that folks (like Bellita1) can't think for themselves, or outside of the box to see the bigger picture. How could anyone say she's a "wack job"? I am so sick of people cutting down others who are genuinely trying to make some positive change in this world.
Where are the Western feminists? Did you know that the female-hating Taliban is forcing some produce vendors to segregate the male and female vegetables in separate produce bins? That is how moronic many Muslim men are! The Taliban will not even allow women to visit a male (or female) doctor, because somehow the female form should be covered at all times. So men force women to wear that stupid burqa and are beaten if they fail to do so. Muslim men are insane, and feminists are MIA. Phonies!

When Kucinich said that he would start the building process for a multi-national force to go into Iraq after an American pull-out with Syria and Iran, I thought he was dangerously ignorant about foreign affairs. This was said on "This Week" (ABC News) with George Stephanopoulos on Aug. 17, 2007. While Kucinich might have been good once, he is just dangerous now and that comment showed a serious lack of study on Middle East history and politics.
ME countries have accepted international groups in their borders before. What they won't accept, and what Kucinich is trying to end, is the American occupation. The countries in that area have more common ground with Iraqis than we ever will. So I don't agree with you.
Finding an ME force does not start with Iran and Syria. Do you know about Syrian in Lebanon? Plus Iranians are Persian and not Arab/Middle Eastern. Study up on the issues and you will see that Kucinich did not when he made that statement. Yes the world wants peace but you have to be practical. Pulling out this way is as blind as going in like Bush did, i.e. completely ignoring history and the situation on the ground.

lets just face it..America is the world's moral compass...we have competent leaders and a top notch military. I mean seriously, who wouldnt want to live in America?
She, Willie Nelson, Sean Penn (and I guess Shirlie astral projection McClaine) are among the few truly progressive and famous performing artists in this country in a political sense. I don't know her music well enough, but I intend to get to know it better now and I salute DiFranco's creativity and politics for trying to make the world a better place through her art.
Peace is possible. Violence is an abuse of anger (most oftentimes stemming from being hurt- people get angry, they get scared, sometimes they do something positive with their anger). Peace is the natural state of things. It's only when we do anything without thinking or remembering that... that we open up the possibility of violence. Peace is not only possible,it's the only reality.
Well, then, we're all damned. If you accept that premise, we will wind up in another war even worse than World War II, with more nuclear weapons being used. If we accept that war is the only way, then the laws of realism and balance of power will lead to this in the relatively near future. I much would rather struggle to change these facts so we can change mankind's destiny.
If human nature can't be changed, then why even try? I believe it can be. The way things are isn't pre-ordained from heaven. We have to power to be the best people we can be. Reality can be changed. In the 1850's, could we easily imagine US without slavery? In the 1930's, could we imagine a US without segregation? The choice is simple: we fight for the future that results in the best of humanity or we allow babarism to happen. And if we don't succeed, so what! We tried!
Also, my life wouldn't be worth living if I wasn't trying to change things. I don't know about you, but if you try for it, maybe you'll find it as uplifting and liberting as I do. Meliorism is my thing.
Nor do I, actually. But the only reason why this is so is because people won't put pressure on our governments to live in a more controlled international system. Right now, it's pretty much anarchy, and this is the basis of realism (and well, almost all international relations theory).
Pressure on any government won't do anything either.... Politics is very complicated, its not just black and white... there is lots of grey. Remember as well USA isn't the world; if you vote in a government against war that just means you will be an easy target for other countries. USA can't make peace within their own country let alone around the world.
That's exactly right. However, I think if we find someway to create an international order that keeps things under control, then it will be a lot better. Otherwise, it's just continuous anarchy. Actually, I come from the realist school of foreign policy, but I really don't think that realism is an ideal. That's my professional life-- realism. Go figure!
Not meaning to get a dig in here but I feel I must say.... other countries just simply don't want order or be told what to do or think so that throws the idea of international order out the window. Reality is Reality, give peace a chance is a pipe dream, unrealistic and simply is impossible. Before peace and order I would like to see the people who starve just get some food
The first sentence-the way that you're referring to international order and countries not wanting to being told what to do -- well that doesn't imply int'l order, that implies someone trying to be in charge (perhaps U.S.?).
It's not the US in charge. It's international law produced through the consensus of the nations. Really, democracy becomes the hegemon, and not a country.
One of the assumptions in the field of international relations is that the international system is an anarchy. However, I think that anarchy has been cultivated just so a single country can run the anarchy. What we need is a more interdependent system in which international institutions cooperate to maintain basic human rights. I tend to believe humans are universal in our basic needs and our dreams, and, as technology develops, this will become much more clear to all of us.
No, Dennis DIDN'T almost ruin Cleveland as mayor. He was later AWARDED by Cleveland's city council for refusing to sell the electric utility, even though they defaulted on a loan--because it saved the city over 200 MILLION DOLLARS. He was ridiculed at the time but later thanked. Like his stance on Iraq, he's one who has the foresight to make unpopular decisions but who turns out later to be right. I'm from Cleveland.
lovve her and her music but Dennis almost ruined Cleveland when he was mayor and he joined the race to help Tops Union employees get their jobs about year too late.
He saved a public utility, and he's the best bet for president if you hate the war. All the rest will probably do what Nixon did with Vietnam-- play with it.
