@rsman211 not all rap is crap you know. Go and listen to some underground stuff, which is about similar things as this. About reflection and people and feelings and memories.
@cermisan Rap died after like 2001. Hip Hop is timeless. 90's was the best era for Hip Hop, and many genre's. Pop Rap is what we got now, just typing it makes my keyboard wanna throw up it's keys.
@Alphoter ok, listen: MOST OF THE "MUSIC" WE HAVE NOW IS JUST A BUNCH OF VOICE EDITING AND MACHINES MAKING NOISES. THAT'S WHY EVERYONE IS UPSET. MUSIC IS LOVE, AND IF YOU DON'T FEEL LOVE AFTER HEARING A SONG, IT'S NOT REAL MUSIC. And if u still are stubborn enough to disagree with me, just go back to your ke$ha and justin beaver. I LOVE YOU!!!! <3
It is really sad to hear todays music. It is just so....HORRIBLE! God I hate mainstream music!! First, the songs are completely stupid and pointless. Second. Well it just plain sucks ass.

i looooovvvveee this song but honestly the new pumpkins rnt as great as the originals, if i could make one wish n the world id wish for them all to get back together :[
i love this song....sounds like a dream....i feel like flying...i know i sound gay but just the sound of it feels like you should be flying or something
James Chamberlain is also an original member, unless you count the drum machine that they used before finding him as the original member. Just saying though. Great song.
actually most of the albums billy did alot of the work on in the studio, the other members even admitted that corgan was/is the driving force behind the band for the most part, not saying any of the other members are bad or anything, Iha was great in APC
Wow good eye! Goes to show they began in 1996/97 just like researchers say. I never noticed them until 2005 when our skies were completely covered with them here in L.A.
You have it backwards. It was Billy Corgan who wrote basically all of Hole's Malibu record after Kurt died. Kurt had written much of the prior lp, Pretty on the Inside. Look it up if you don't believe me. THe reason I know is because I worked at a club in L.A. on 3rd and La Brea where COurtney used to work at a store next door before Hole got big and she married Kurt.
reading this comments about all you guys being born in '94 makes me feel old! i remember when this album came out! Went to the siamese dream tour. This album made me want to pick up the guitar and learn how to play. Which I did. Too bad the pumpkins dont make music like this anymore.
I know! I was born in '95 and all the people my age listen to is this disney bulcrap, and nothing as good as this will ever be around again! I am happy though to be a part of the small part of non-commercialized music that is still around.
im the same age dude, and i totally agree. real music like this is dead in the mainstream, and less and less people are playing it. i would have to say 90 percent of all music written in the last 4 years is complete bull shit.

@punkre435 isn't the pumpkins still making music? i heard their song on the watchman preview but last i heard of billy he was in swan so i could be wrong. if they made a new album whats it called
@monkeylunchbreak Its so different though. Its not based off of what style they play, which is wat the past generations were complaining about. Its about the music industry making artist that have no real content in their music, no emotion except to party, actually presentable. All these terrible artist are spoon fed to the population and even though some people reject it the majority of people just take in the load of crap thats being shoveled in their mouths.
@ejf721 I guess you didn't listen to your parents then... cause that's EXACTLY what the older generation says about 90's music. And you're complaint IS a complaint about "style." When you listen to "modern" "mainstream" music you don't feel any emotional connection to it, and so therefore you claim it has none. It DOES. It just doesn't appeal to you. That just makes you old. ;) Now I agree that the Smashing Pumpkins are AMAZING, but let's not forget that THEY were mainstream too. ;)
@monkeylunchbreak Well my parents were not like that. I think there are some good new bands such as MGMT, Hoobastank, and Linkin Park. Are you trying to say that miley cyrus and Justin Beiber are too fresh and new for me and thats the reason why I don't think they are "artist" and I can't relate to her music. Now the Smashing Pumpkins are mainstream grunge/alternative music, but absolutely no body spoon fed me their music. I didn't even get a chance to listen to them until after they broke up.
@ejf721 To be honest 90s nostalgics do seem to have very selective memories. The 1990s invented Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, boybands and autotuner. Maybe things were different where you were, but our charts were in no way dominated by anything remotely 'real'. The grunge/alternative stuff was just that - ALTERNATIVE. There is plenty of good new music anyway. Are the things you've listed REALLY all you've been exposed to? That does suggest a lack of trying...
@iipsilon Dude get your facts straight the 2000 are not the same as the 90's. Of course there was crap in the 90's, at least the mainstream music wasn't mostly crap like it is now. I'm not saying that the 90's was the golden age of music or anything. I'm just comparing the decades. Please if you feel that I'm missing out on tons of awesome new bands please suggest a few, that I can check. The list of bands i gave was just a few examples btw.
@ejf721 well im very sry that u were not able to enjoy these albums as they came out. for that u have my sympathy. but hoobastank and linkin park are absolute crap rock. sry to break it to u but if i dont someone else will. upgrade to tool a perfect circle muse radiohead and of course smashing pumpkins.
@melliott1313 Dude you have to learn how to understand that difference between quality music and your own personal taste. I have heard a lot of Tool, Perfect Circle, Muse, and Radiohead. I do like a lot of their songs, but just because I like these bands doesn't mean I'm not going to be open to other styles of music, simply because its not created by super depressed/angry people. i listen to all kinds of music as long as its quality music. All the way from P-funk, No Doubt, Daft Punk, SOAD, etc
The last thing you said is simply not true. There is another music industry beside the mainstream. Hundrets of thousands of unknown artists write masterpieces every day. We simply never get to know them because there is no place for deep music on top of the charts. But I don't listen to mainstream bullshit anyway so I think I'm fine. Disarm is great and too damn short. Peace.
@punkre435 really? 90%? I wouldn't agree with that. 90% of music that gets airtime on mainstream radio stations - yes, but not ALL music. There are some amazing artists NOW that are getting over-looked because people think that music these days is shit and not worth even looking for or listening to. I don't listen to Smashing Pumpkins because it's from the 90's...
@punkre435 I don't listen to rhianna because I like R&B and I don't listen to Two Door Cinema Club because it's indie. I listen to music because I like it. I don't care what genre or era music is from if I like it I'll listen to it. I think thats lost on a lot of people today because they think they're 'too cool' to listen to Justin Bieber or whatever, but attitudes like that close you off from some amazing music and really just encourages pigeon-holing people into categories like 'emo' and that
lmfao man, i was born in 1990 if there is one thing ive learned about music its that the style all come back, like alot of rap beats come right out of 80s tracks lol
Damn that's great... The Smashing Pumpkins have no real parallel... Btw, I was born in '94 and I love this song and I know a lot of people at my school that like it. So maybe there's not as many dumb teenagers out there as you thought! Haha
More like thanks for not being a dumbass. Music today is nothing compared to the music of the 90's or the 70's. Jw, when was this song actually released on an album?
I like some of the music that comes out today but i am into the older stuff, a lot of the stuff that comes out today is horrible but there is some ok stuff

Until I listened to Pumpkin's other songs, this was the best song of them I'd heard... Wouldn't have room for it if written for Mellon Collie.

"leave you here, like they left me here to wither in denial." What did he mean by that?
jkullander 2 years ago 2
He means he will leave the boy he is talking about in the song just like how he was left by his parents when he was a boy.

In my humble opinion, this song is up there with 'Mayonaise' as one of the Pumpkins' best. Inspired song writing from Billy Corgan.
