OOPS,hit delete in my haste to visit my hero nb 'A.A'.It was Ron Watsons' beloved 'Thistles' team mainly from RSCDS Bournemouth dancing at the Bic.They were a late replacement for Glasgow, who couldn't get their team so far South.Ron is seriously ill in Bournemouth Hospital as I type this, hence the posting. All are still 'dancing'albeit with a new hip(Keith)or worse!Let's hope he'll be teaching, dancing & 'Oh DEARING' to all of the New Forest (we all LHTB really),in his own inimitable style soon.
P.S to all you 'big wigs' (especially A.A.-hopefully you will at least recogniseYOUR name even if you didn't know who I was when I walked in to your VERY social wee gathering at Corrie)many thanks for putting me up,or should I say putting up with me & my incessant chatter about dancing.'Please can we talk about something else my dear,& remind me of your name again'.Only I could manage to bore a Society VVIP witless )-; (Luckily he has a wicked sense of humour,& lovely Rachel to remind him.
Rocking step.... oh how I miss dancing. Thank you Anselm for forwarding this link to my email! I remember how you taught us to dance that dance in Frankfurt!!!
A wonderful performance of "Shehallion" by the Glasgow Scottish Country Dance demo team. This is the only SCD video I've seen online that shows both close-ups of footwork and overhead shots. Many SCD groups in the U.S. do only the 2d part of this medley, the reel, and I had never seen the 1st part, the strathspey, in 10+ years of dancing. Thank you!
This is a really fine example of Scottish Country Dancing! I've been looking for a really good short clip to share with those who are interested in SCD and this is it! Thank you for posting it!

Can anyone tell me the name of the setting step at 0:45?
And this was a lovely video. It's especially nice to see the dancing overhead. Most of the time this isn't available.

I've heard it called the rocking step. If you search on "Highland Fling" you will see something similar

That would be the Highland Schottishe setting step. It's a nice one.

Sorry, that is the rocking step. My computer was actually a bit behind the timer.

Any idea how the team did? Was the tradition appreciated?

They won to much applause, but of course this was only part of the overall ballroom dancing programme.
I found it very charming and a refreshing change from the standard brash medley of tune used in formation dancing.
