@TheNeilTNA I'm guessing you mean "rich" by "rick." No dice. Sorry, man, I'm broke. Never have been rich. That doesn't dictate my intelligence and behavior, though. Nice try.
Free Bird does suck pecker. Fuck Free Bird and Skynard. They didn't get the picture when most of em' died in a plane crash. Nah' stupid fuckers had to keep going. Damned alcoholics.
@MrJoecool1234 Oh, I sure am! I'm a dick and a half! I'm glad you recognized that trait. Now you won't be surprised when I tell you to learn how to spell.
@MrJoecool1234 Apparently, I'm not the only thing that's dead to you. There's also spelling, grammar, and the ability to muster an original thought. I honestly don't know why you bothered to comment. I suppose it IS easier to disregard personal pride when the only reputation you have to uphold is that of a cowardly, anonymous malcontent who posts other people's ORIGINAL content on his youtube channel.
@ChowAtTheY Of course he was ripping Paul for more than JUST lyrics. "Silly Love Songs" was a response to Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?". Later, John said he realized it was actually about himself, but regardless, "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" was a commentary about how animals don't have all of the preconceived notions and inherent problems with the act of procreation that humans do. Had nothing to do with "lyric critics." My video was not about the MUSIC. Otherwise, I would have said so.
@ChowAtTheY Dude, don't feed me your half-baked pseudo-knowledge of the Beatles. Paul WOULD hate lyrics critics--he was renowned for getting ripped a new one for his overly-simplistic lyrics. His biggest critic was JOHN LENNON in fact. And "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" was inspired by two monkeys having sex on a street in India. The song you're looking for as direct response to Lennon's criticism was "Silly Love Songs."
@ChowAtTheY Musically, I have no problem with the song. Lyrically I do. In point of fact, I find it quite sad that such terrible lyrics saddle down what could have otherwise been a wonderful song. It should be noted though that better lyrics would have prohibited the song from being the powerhouse hit it is.
@callmedeebo not that this could possibly change your mind. And i respect your opinion learning that you do in fact like some Skynyrd songs so I respect that..The lyrics to this song were actually written by Ronnie Van Zant when he was like 18 years old. And the song was first recorded when the guitar players (Gary Rossington and Allen Collins) were only 15 and 16 years old. So to think that Free bird is considered a great song and possibly the greatest guitar solo is pretty cool.
@lsunationalchamps08 ...I also resent the fact that Skynyrd fans attribute the lyrics to Ronnie's life as if it were some great prophecy that came true. It all just seems so trite...
@callmedeebo I consider myself to be a huge Skynyrd fan and I agree. I don't resent those people for that, but I also don't believe that the lyrics were any kind of foreshadowing are something like that...When he was asked about the lyrics were about he said " The lyrics for free bird are based on the idea of being free, there is nothing free'r then a bird just flying. that's what this country is about being free, and I think everyone wants to be a free bird."
@callmedeebo and when people say Fly on Free bird are something like that about ronnie now that he is dead . It basically means R.I.P by mentioning his musical talent. This song was later dedicated to Duane Allman who died and Ronnie would say in concert "he is a free bird". So naturally the same type of respect would be shown towards him.
@callmedeebo also agree with the fact that Free Bird is not Skynyrd's best song...Neither is sweet home alabama, but they are both good songs but I think they are overplayed. Lynyrd Skynyrd has so many great songs that are rarely heard.
@lsunationalchamps08 Thanks for commenting, and thanks actually reading other posts. I respect a person who pays attention to detail. As it is, I think my main problem with the lyrics is that they SOUND like they were written by an 18 year old, invoking images of some lonesome drifter who loves 'em and leaves 'em because he can't change his ways (and can't be bothered to try).
@adminallen Me too! Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I hope you check out some of my other videos. I would love to get your opinion of those as well!
Well...I don't think Free Bird is the best Lynyrd Skynyrd song at all. They have much more meaningful songs like That Smell, Comin Home, and many many others.
But Free Bird isn't bad either. It just describes the lifestyle of a rambling man who can't commit to a relationship. Sort of a cliche in rock music, but considering what rock has changed into since those days, I'd say it's a pretty great song.
@Kynatics I definitely don't think it's the best Lynyrd Skynyrd song. I actually love a few of their songs a lot. "Ode to Curtis Lowe" is probably my favorite, but I would also rank "Tuesday's Gone" and "Things Goin' On" in the top 100 songs of all time. I guess I don't mind "Free Bird" being a cliche, I think I just find the lyrics irritating as I am a strong believer in the notion that people can change for the better if they want to. The song drills it repeatedly that the protagonist can't.
@callmedeebo Negative message in lyrics is as good a reason as any to dislike a song. Personally, I don't really mind "defeatist" themes such as in Free Bird. But I'm strongly opposed to themes of violence, promiscuity, individualism, arrogance...pretty much every subject abundantly covered by today's music! It's interesting to learn what other people find to be poor lyrical subject. I think your view is very reasonable at that.
@hankjr5555 Thanks for the comment. I would like to point out that I don't hate every Skynyrd song, just Free Bird. My personal favorites are "Tuesday's Gone" and "Things Goin' On".
@lustmolch113 Thanks for the comment! As you can see, I've already received plenty of comments just like yours. What I HAVEN'T received is any kind of intelligently-written argument as to why I may be wrong. So why do you feel that Free Bird is the best song of all time?
@roer42 I may very well be "a a hole", but at least I can spell, compose a complete thought, use punctuation correctly--all while miraculously remembering to use the indefinite article "an" before words beginning with a vowel or a (yes, I suppose I AM asking for it here) diphthong. So in answer to your question, no. It is not even remotely written in any intelligent fashion. No worries, I would expect nothing less of a "Free Bird" fan!
haha that's funny
