  • Fly boy u wrong today country is about drunk dudes and fights

  • Damn me and my friend can't get enough of this song it's awesome thank the lord we had Johnny cash :)

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHNNY !=

  • Johnny Cash wasn't all covers, just mostly in his later years of life.

  • @FimbuIvinter

Cash always did a lot of covers. It varies from album to album, but even early on, about half of his songs were covers. He had a talent, though, for picking great songs and making them his own.

  • Lol@ Artist : Johnny Cash Playing at: Continental Club, Houston Mar 8,2012..oh if only YouTube..if only

  • 8 out of 10 are covers, yeah I'm talking about Cash.

  • great song

  • schweeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny Cash... You're my inspiration... Hopefully one day I'll be able to make someone else feel the same way.

  • the devils right hand just went off on the ten people who disliked this song. And may you rot in hell for disliking one of the greatest musicians this world has ever seen!

  • The only country artist i like all the newer artist can kiss mah ass

  • @monsterE3 Thats what im sayin

  • @monsterE3

There are still good country artists out there - just not on mainstream radio.

  • @nilradem man you got that one right.

  • bullcrap. today's country music is talkin about gettin drunk and gettin laid.

  • @flyboy83100

You might want to try searching a little more. I am in complete agreement that pop "country" isn't real country, but I think if you are going to complain about it, you have to support artists who are out there doing real country without much recognition. Try Wayne Hancock, Elizabeth Cook, Rachel Brooke, Jayke Orvis, Justin Townes Earle for starters. Sure they have some songs about drinking or relationships, but that has been true of country since the beginning.

  • @nilradem Its just like with rap music lil wayne is NOT true hip hop

  • i love this a cover!!!!!! ?!?!?!?

  • best freken song by this guy ever....

  • This is the best song and cover ever! :D

  • @quinny44 I never said Mr. Cash wrote the song. I said he told a story with his music, and put his true feelings into it. I never gave him credit for writing the song. I know he didn't. I'm not stupid. I was voicing my opinion that the music of the greats (From the 50's to some early 70's) the person preforming it put true meaning into it. Take a chill pill kid. Don't see you bitching out Hendrix for singing Hey Joe - The Leaves do you? No, so calm down and just enjoy the music.

  • Real music is about telling a story, and putting you're true feelings into the song while doing it. That is something Mr. Cash always managed to do. You hardly see that nowadays.

  • @TheGinger15765 mr cash didnt, this is a steve earle song.

  • "I never knew why; I didn't understand...."

  • steve earle sounds like hes singing it whilst squeezing a runny shite out of his batty..

  • @BAZZROISKY

Clearly Cash disagreed with your assesment, and I think perhaps his judgement about music is better than yours. He had a lot of respect for Steve.

  • hahaha tire swing sounds exactly like this

  • now was it Johnny Cash or Steve Earl that originally made this song?

  • @lightspirit501 steve earl. some people think that his is better, but I think cash makes any song he covers better

  • @lightspirit501

It is written by Steve Earle - Waylon also recorded it, as did the Highwaymen - Cash's solo version is relatively recent (not long before he passed.)

  • Im sure this is featured at the ending of a movie any ideas..

  • @hammerhartwell

I haven't seen it, but someone on another thread said it was in the movie Betrayed.

  • this is the better version by far 100%

  • hell ya one awesome song

  • My favourite Johny Cash song.

  • Man, I love Johnny and all, but Steve's version just kills this one...

  • I know Steve Earle wrote the original, but Cash does a better job. This is definitely the best re-make I've ever heard.

  • @snowwhite923 u never heard hurt then?

  • this is kind of awesome...can't believe i never heard this one before

  • One of the best voices in music!

  • Steve Earl wrote it just F.Y.I.

  • when i play red dead redemtion i listen to this

  • @thecandyman0838 yessss

  • @thecandyman0838 When I (try) to read comments like your's; I use Rosetta's Stone.

  • m16 is the left hand

  • Colt 45 rocks

  • johnny cash as done it all. i love this man. he can do no wrong up to his dying day. so many people take from him and i don't think he minded. it's all flatery.

  • Johnny makes everything he covers amaizing

  • How cool is this song?! listened to steve earles original version which is good but as always johnny cash makes it his own, FAB!!!

  • nice cover!

It's actually a Steve Earle song, but this is a great cover!!!

  • more views than the cover too!!!

  • @series15000 THIS IS THE COVER

  • @quinny44 i ment more views than the song he is covering!!! chill out

  • why do people dislike the best songs in history ? :/

  • @BIKI1997 Afraid some people were born without taste. Or Brains. Or both. Pity them, my friend. They are cursed forever to miss the best there is. Count your blessings that you aren't among them.

  • that was the beast song ever.

  • Johnny Cash is the man, and forever will be the man in black.

  • BADASS

  • fuckin love this song

  • Is it just my laptop or does anybody else hear a random Transformer-like sound at least once during any video they play on youtube?

  • @89TheBigBoss

I think it is you, sorry. Have you checked for aliens in the attic? :)

  • JC owned at this cover. shoulda been his song instead of Steve Earle. dont get me wrong i love Steve Earle's music but Johnny's version is way better the Steve's

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!!

  • I loved this song the first time I heard it, This should be a western movie song.

  • @nippytaytay go away, this is one of his best

  • @ToAstYNaChO

No. I like him, he has many great songs, but this one is not one of them. There is absolutely nothing special about this song. You are effected by hero worship. Hero worship is a primitive trait.

While I am a fan of his, I am still able to admit that he put out mediocre songs as well. The reason I can do this is because I don't idolize other human beings. Placing people on such high pedestals that you can't admit their flaws is a dangerous habit to get in to. Grow up.

  • @nippytaytay why are you trying to start an intelectual conversation, i didnt say i love all of his songs, i just said that this song is great, one of my lesser liked songs of cash's is "sundaymorning coming down"

  • @ToAstYNaChO

So I should have said something less intellectual such as ''shut up poopie pants''?

    I think in intellectual terms.

  • @nippytaytay no, i was refering to the fact that you stated things that arnt really relative, such as "hero worship" . i dont put any one on such horses that i dont recognize flaws, i just said simply " this is one of his best" not ' Johnny cash does Nothing wrong, Everything of his is great'.

  • that cant be johnny playin gitar.

    anybody know?

  • @edslides1 If i remember right its the lead guitar player for zz top.

  • @edslides1 Yeah I know: on this track the Red Devils backed him up. The Devils also backed Johnny Cash on music that was not released until the country singer's death, on the boxed set Unearthed. Rick Rubin brought the Red Devils back to the studio to record with music legend Johnny Cash. Cash showed the band some songs, including "T for Texas", "Bad News", "Devil's Right Hand", and "Thirteen". Their recording of "T for Texas" was later released on Cash's Unearthed 2003 album.

  • Why does this song give off sex appeal? lol it swings man it really does

  • I am from Serbia and a i love johnny Cash, I Enjoy his music!

  • I swear, every time I look for more Johnny Cash songs I find three more amazing ones.

  • @Hyreia Im the same way. I think I could live to be 100 and never listen to every cash song.

  • Johnny Cash forever!!!

  • I'm getting my first 45 if I had a cigar will I be as cool as Clint Eastwood that would make my day!!!

  • What truth! So then I went and bought myself a Colt 45

Called a peacemaker but I never knew why

  • 5 people absolutely SUCK

  • thats mint lol

  • Listening to Cash , he really loves his mom but didn't listen . I wish i had listened to my mom .

  • Leave it to Johnny to make this song fun to listen to.

  • M0:00RE

  • Is that Keith Richards playing? This is so awesome!

  • This in on the short list of my favorite songs ever. I like Steve's version, too, but Johnny owns this.

  • @TopHatKitty SAME! It was on Social Distortion Radio.

  • @TopHatKitty whats a Pandora? :)

  • @Nikovich101 pandora.com

It's a website where you make radio stations out of your favorite bands and it'll play their music and music that has a similar sound.

  • It can get you into trouble but it can't get you out

    He's talking about me...

  • Devil's fapping hand, lol

  • 4 people got denied a handgun permit

  • @benadrylp 4 people were from chicago.

  • @benadrylp That shit isn't funny anymore, or ever for that matter.

  • corect me if i´m wrong but steve earle was born in viginia (usa)! not in the uk... wiki rules....

  • @poini666

No one is claiming Steve was born in the UK - look back at the older comments to catch up with the conversation. And yes, he was born in Virginia, raised mostly in Texas.

  • @brineb58

From about 1607-1776, but that isn't really relevant here.

  • love it

  • williamgrinder is a MORON!!!! Steve Earle was born in Virginia and grew up in Texas. What was the point of your lie?

  • @Puppysofia

Please read the other comments before judging others... williamgrinder is not saying Steve is British. He was responding to someone else a year ago. who claimed a British neo-nazi singer wrote this song. WIlliam was simply saying this song is clearly writen by an American - Steve Earle - not the British singer. This has been explained several times.

  • Johnny Cash's version, in my opinion, sounds really good.

  • @williamgrinder

Well maybe you should have put more thought into your orginal comment if you didn't want a bunch of responces. Nice touch calling me an "idiot" though, but Im not looking through hundreds of comments to make sence of something you didn't think through before you posted it on the internet. I bet you have more negative replys to you personally than "likes" to your two sentence comment. Also, notice how I deleted my last post?....real simple

  • @GiantRobot751 i hate you

  • @GiantRobot751 I thought it through, it made sense in its context, it became a highest rated comment for that very reason and therefore it cannot be deleted. So if you haven't the inclination to find out what that context was then thats your fault not mine and it make you an idiot. Theres more people out there that you could prove wrong if you only read half of what they have to say, lucky you.

  • @williamgrinder I didn't know that not understanding a few sentences that a complete stranger posted on Youtube made me an idiot. I'm sorry Sir that I am not on the same level of intelligence as the great and powerfull wizard of Youtube, willamgrinder. From now on if I encounter a problem in life, Ill just ask myself, what would that guy from Youtube, williamgrinder do in my situation? That should work out great for me!

  • @GiantRobot751 what are you talking about?

  • sounds like a cash original, in my point of view thats a pretty damn goood cover

  • REPUBLICANS DONT LIKE THIS SONG!!!!

  • his mamas dead wrong >:O,lol i liek guns alot, not just bc there fun to use but bc theres good for self defence, but befor ya get one you should know how to use one.

  • Guns are tools like computers. Use them wisley, and for the purpose' intended. Self defences, and entertaintment. I like to blow peoples heads off . and smell the blood and powder. then nuc um.

  • 4 people don't like music.

  • I gotta make it official. I'm placing Steve at the top of my 'most gifted

' song writers along w/ others like Sting, Al Stewart,Beattles, Jai Uttal,Rimsky-Korsikov(music too) Bach etc... I got a few but he's definitely made it.Kudos to you Steve(if you don't mind me calling you by your first name).

  • @steelgila Steve didn't write this..Johnny Cash did....

  • @ShinySilverForMe

You might want to check your facts before posting. This was written by Steve, and it was brought to the Highwaymen by Waylon, not Cash. Sash didn't record it until after.

  • @darlincommitme apologies...you are correctomundo!

  • @ShinySilverForMe

Johnny only wrote about half of the songs he recorded - I love him, and think he was a genius, but am surprised how often I encounter Cash fans who assume he wrote songs he covered.

  • @darlincommitme I think it's because Johnny had a way of making any song his own. He chose covers carefully and with an eye to making his version unique and unforgettable. His version of "Hurt", or his version of "Ain't No Grave" are unbelievable as well. That voice just makes one believe that the singer was personally involved and lived that song. It's really musicianship at its finest. I love him as well.

  • Thanks again pardner I'll have to check out that fan site!

  • legend

  • Thanks Johnnie, now I can make out some of those lyrics. I love Steve Earles accent but I'll be double-damned if I can make out some of those words. Both versions are good. So who really wrote this? Certainly Cash pre-dates Earle? Where is Earle from? He sounds a little like east Tennessee or western Carolina (where I lived for nearly 20 yrs. Some allusions about Texas too?

  • @steelgila

Steve wrote the song - Cash is older, but that dosn't mean he couldn't record a younger artist's song. Waylon also covered it, before Guitar Town (Steve's first album) came out and Steve was writing for other artists.

And Steve is from Texas. He mostly grew up in San Antonio area, though the family moved around. His mother was from Nashville, and he lived there for years, so it makes sense you hear both accents. Lives in NY now.

I can understand him just fine!

  • @darlincommitme

Thanks for the info on Steve. Yeah the demographics definitely seem to indicate the origin of the accent(s). And I understand most of what I'm hearing!

  • @steelgila

If you are ever looking for Steve's lyrics (and yes, as much as I love him, he sometimes fails to ennunciate) there is a great fan site called the "unofficial Steve Earle" site, with all of his lyrics up until the last 2 albums. OR buy the albums - he always includes lyric sheets with the CD.

  • I shot the dog down because i wanted his gun

  • If momma would have told him why they called it a "Peacemaker" it wouldn't have ended so badly for him.

  • Such a great song. It's a shame the song's message is a tool of the Liberal Agenda to discredit the second amendment. Steve Earle is an idiot. I can't insult the great Johnny Cash though. Great song.

  • waylon's version is the best

  • I've got this song on while playing Fallout 3, they go perfectly together. Love me some Johnny Cash

  • would be a cool opening credits song to a shoot em up movie

  • @rockydykema sound even better at my funeral.

  • @rockydykema lol i already got it in the works dont worry...

  • @rockydykema You just planted a seed my friend.

  • @rockydykema It's the ending song of the FBI movie Betrayed 1988.

  • Comment removed

  • @Artencot lol you are fucking RETARDED

  • who gives a fuck who it's by... Johnny sings it better anyway!

  • Nope your all wrong its a Waylon Jennings and Noel Gallagher song.

  • @gamster68

    Go away, troll.

  • Steve Earle wasn't always anti-gun but this song was clearly a comment on the negative powers of gun-totin'..Johnny probably liked it cause of it's similarity in message to his (I think)"Don't take your guns to Town"

  • @TriiXaReFoRkiDZz

I went to a Steve Earle gig here in the UK in the mid 90's, he introduced the song saying " This isn't a gun control song, it's about a juvenile delinquent in the 1800's " Something like that anyway.

So he wasn't an anti-gun retard back then, although he is now.

  • guess that's why i always got in to trouble with my guns

  • Who ever made it, ONLY johnny can sing it!!!!

  • your wrong johnny cash made it and Steve Earle remade it

  • @bigrob54321 @bigrob54321

By time traveling?? Earle's version came out in the 1980s, Cash's in the 2000's. If you are really a Cash fan and have the CD, check the liner notes before posting. The copyright is clearly Earle's.

  • ur all rong its by johnny cash and steve earle remade it

  • I can listen to this all day.

  • cant believe why johnny cash sang those fucking nazi songs

  • @assi81912

What makes this a nazi song? There is a British neo-nazi group that covered it, and I have seen their fans claiming they wrote it, but I am sure that did not make writer Steve Earle happy. (He is a socialist.) The content certainly has nothing to do with nazis. It is best known here in the states for Waylon Jennings' version, though I like steve's better.

  • very nice
