  • Oh dear God, please let Tom Baker be in it! He is the Ultimate Doctor! I love them all, but Tom is the one that was THE ICON for the series. He missed being in the 20th anniversary. He needs to be in the 50th even if it means I find out where he lives and I drag him to the studio! I think the man underestimates the impact he had on the show. He always said he did it for the children. Well, I'm still one of the children he did it for.

  • Tom Baker seems to known more now-a-days for voice overs, I can't think I have seen him actually act in anything since Doctor Who, but everytime you turn the TV on he seems to be in a new an advert (which isn't a criticism good for him), especially since Little Britain, it makes me smile whenever I hear him, his voice is so moking and ironic.

  • Oh well. His voice sounds too crappy now anyways.

  • @starwarsruls1 I think it actually sounds even better now...

  • Regarding the CGI theory, it is BRILLIANT, BUT...remember Dreamland? The designs for it were sub-par, and REALLY choppy, so CGI MAY not be the BEST route...HOWEVER! This IS number 50! AND it would allow for a BIGGER budget! So MAYBE CGI would be able to looks like The Sims 3 rather than 1...but then we'd ALSO have to sacrifice the option of seeing Paul McGann Live Action with Matt Smith! So that's what I had to say, I hope this helps people informed about what they want now for Year 50.

  • OK, CGI animation, VOICE overs....HELLLO!!!

  • Why not a parallel storyline where the Master succeeds in stealing the Doctors regenerations and instead of regenerating into different people, he just regenerates as the same one aging but regenerating from time to time to restore his health? Now, he's after the Doctor in this reality because he's reached the end of his last regeneration?

  • I do hope even if he never reprises Four, that Baker would at least participate in some sort of celebration program. Like host a documentary on the shows history. Or participate in something like what William Shatner did with all the Star Trek Captains.

But I do really like the aforementioned idea of him playing a parralel universe 4th Doctor from a timeline where he never had to regenerate.

  • They should do an animated feature and have all the living past Doctors voice their incarnations. And cast soundalikes for the ones who have died or would never come back (Like Eccleston)

  • So it's "No but yes but no but..." is it?

  • actually that might work, especially after The Doctor's Wife, where we learned that the TARDIS keeps archives of all the previous and future control rooms. perhaps she might also keep archives of the Doctor's different incarnations. and they could explain the aging problem away like they did in Time Crash.

  • Tom, I have watched all the Doctors. You were and are the best Doctor, in any Universe.

  • Tom Baker is now and will always be my Doctor. He is such an amazing actor and it would be great to see him at least make a cameo during the 50th.

  • Tom Baker was always my favorite Dr.!

  • There's that great scene in Zagreus when the Eighth Doctor died and went to... Doctor Heaven... I guess... Where he met with the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor and they all made jokes about one another. It was really great

  • COME BACK TOM!! ALL WE 30 (40!) YEAR OLD GUYS WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL! YOU BROUGHT SUCH JOY TO MY CHILDHOOD-I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THAT!

LET THE GHOST OF THE MISSED OPPORTUNITY OF THE FIVE DOCTORS GO..AND

    COME BACK TOM!!

    WE LOVE YOU!!

  • Well now Tom is doing the Big Finish stories, anything is possible!

  • Tom, we'll always love you, you "old hero" you. You're magnificent! You placed your stamp on the show that no other can replace, just place their stamp next to yours. You will ALWAYS be THE Doctor to me and no other will replace you in mine and many other fans hearts.

  • Fans would be thrilled to see Tom Baker reprise the role again in whatever way can be worked out in the story. We've had multiple incarnations together before, and the situation Tom described was actually neat and imaginative. To be quite honest, we weren't ready for Tom's departure when he left.. even though the writing was suffering. Similar goes for David Tennant, he also left the role too soon.

  • he should come back on for the show, with a little make up and a big frizzy wig he'd look the same as the old Doctor we all loved!

  • After all the crap that the arrogant bastard Steven Moffat said about him in a very indiscreet interview from back in 1995? It's here on youtube somewhere. Of course Moffat did apologize (sort of ) in a follow-up interview after he started working for dr who as a staff writer.

but he never liked Tom so he wouldn't do as good a job as he would for say Peter. Hopefully Tom will say no until Moffat brings in someone who likes ALL the Dr's and not just the ones he has written for. rme

  • He needs to just shut up and show up! For a lot of us, he is still the coolest of the Doctors and we made his career because we did keep touting him for so long. He is still living off the residuals, so he should show a little gratitude if nothing else.

  • @DoNotGAS I don't think he was very happy at all for a long time as I remember to not be thought of as anything other than Dr Who. I think he felt at the time after he left that he was typecast and it ruined his carreer is how he saw it. He wouldn't talk about Dr Who in interviews for years after...so I don't think he sees it as "made his career"

  • @Jamie131970 ive seen interviews where he says "its my favorite part i ever played" i think the not talking about it stems more from people who wanted to talk ONLY about Dr Who.

  • @DoNotGAS You don't sound like a fan. Frankly he's right. You might think you'd like it but it wouldn't be the same. You can't recapture glory. He's not being an ingrate, he's talking about what would work best for the show and the fans.

  • No, Tom! Don't make the same mistake you made in 1983! Come back for the anniversary special if invited! You've been through this song and dance before. You know how much you're going to regret turning down the opportunity to be in the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who.

  • He does mention exploring the Tardis. They briefly flirted with this in Series 6 and had also previously done it during the Baker and Davison eras. Not that they should, but they COULD do a whole season just exploring the Tardis.

  • @greenrangerv1 he said a whole bunch of things after his initial answer which was no. so i can see why you would get confused. but alas, he said no.

  • Please forgive me for the dumb question, but did he even answer? Not to sound disrespectful, but I didn't catch an actual answer among just chatting...Maybe I just didn't hear it.

  • I'm not the biggest Doctor Who expert by a long shot, but from what I gather, when the Doctor regenerates, all the cells of his body change into the new being, and it's kind of like a death/rebirth. But maybe there's something not even the Doctor knows--maybe when you regenerate, the old body goes somewhere else. Maybe there's another dimension where regenerated time lords reside.

  • Not exactly, a heaven, but another place where the adventure can continue. And maybe for the 50th anniversary, some prior incarnations of The Doctor can find their way out.

  • How about the idea of parallel worlds? I know it's already been explored in DR WHO, but what if there were separate universes where each Doctor never died, but continued to grow older instead. Then it would make sense to have each of the old Doctors return as much older versions of themselves. It could be very similar to what DC Comics did in the 1980s with CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, only DR WHO style. I would image Tom Baker's Doctor would be the supreme ruler of his universe by now.

  • @Karloff12969 That's a really cool idea.

  • Comment removed

  • @Karloff12969 Watch the 5 Doctors, it's essentially the same thing.

  • @Karloff12969 Well said there...I'd vote for Tom...He's my Doctor from my era ...I was so lucky... I always imagine God looks like Tom Baker and probably is him...

  • @Karloff12969 That would be interesting, but some of the older doctors are already dead, and Eccleston (9) said he won't come back, so that may be hard to explain.

  • @Karloff12969 thums up if you read all of this

  • bring back the 9th doctor

  • @fanofheadroom1

    I know right . . .

  • They need to pull a Babelcolour move and put him in with existing footage and masking. Then have something happen so that he regenerates into Peter Davison to early, causing a time problem, and they have to fix it.

  • if any doctors should come back it should be 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th because tom baker is the best in the classic series and then Jon pertwee but he is dead so it cant be him so then the 7th witch is Sylvester mccoy then Paul magann, i pick him because you have to give him a chance and David tennent because he is the best in the new series. that's my opinion

  • if any doctors should come back it should be the 4th, 5th, 9th, and 10th just sayin

  • @nerf5 6, 7 and 8.*

  • @orbital151 the 6th doctor was kinda dark, i dint care for the 7th doctor, and the 8th doctor got his own move

  • am i the only one that thinks he sounds like Patrick Stewart? lol

  • What people overlook is one simple fact. A story with 11 Doctors in will be shit. Why not keep it down to say 3 core charaters, say, Ten, Eleven, and Harkness, or even Eight? You can't have a show with 11 leads, that would be silly.

Other Doctors should come back for cameos though. Who cares about their age? If, in 2013, we get Tom Baker on screen again, just for a minute, but it's him, that's better than an episode of a look alike. I can't imagine any of the actors would refuse a cameo. :)

  • @SuperRichi1A That douchebag Eccleston has flat out refused to come back...

  • @greenrangerv1 apparently he Eccleston said he was not treated very well on set. So there is another side here...shame I thought he was good as the Doctor

  • @Jamie131970 He was. The show is starting to suffer from the same problems we had betwee nthe time of the fourth doctors death and the seventh doctor. They brought back some staff/writers that should have been left out.

  • Tom Baker is still the best Doctor, and probably always will be.

  • Alternate universe Dr. Who's could meet up at a crack between universes and their various ages easily explained away as having simply never died and needed regeneration. I'd like to see them all end up in Hawaii before it was inhabited (just because it's where I'd go if I had a Tardis). Suppose the various Tardi were behind the whole thing, faking that they needed time to regenerate, just because everybody could use a vacation and it/they just missed seeing all the old doctors.

  • "All" the Doctors could come back the way JJ Abrems made a alternate reality for Star Trek. Just imagine all the Doctor Who multiple series there could be! Crossovers, deaths that aren't really deaths. Doctor versus Doctor versus Doctor ver....well you get the point..... Multiple Masters, oh my!

  • @TRose2342 unfortunetly some are dead :( RIP jon pertwee, william hartnell and many others

  • For Tom Baker that is basically a yes. The story just has to be good enough.

  • Jesus Baker! Get involved! We love ya! Do SOMETHING! Anything!

  • Tom had a brilliant idea. Imagine the Doctor facing his greatest challenge, going back into some deep Tardis room to seek advice from his past selves.

  • He could have a cameo, so that fans can look and say "TOM!" and give recognition in that way. He wouldn't necessarily have to play the Doctor. Just to have the actors on the show would be enough of a nod.

  • Is he the oldest remaining doctor? I thought the first three are dead.

  • @cryssibaby ....yes, which makes him the oldest remaining Doctor....I'm not sure why you're asking and answering your own question.

  • @kamwrites It was to be completely sure. Just in case I thought the first three were dead only to find out #3 is alive somewhere. I really didn't know.

  • @cryssibaby Ah, I gotcha. Apologies. Yes, the first three are gone. In fact, "four" are gone, as Richard Hurndall, who played the first doctor in the "Five Doctors" episode, died about five months or so after that show was broadcast.

  • Tom Baker IS the doctor.period.

  • Did he just give a spoiler away at the end?!

  • The curls, floppy hat and teeth: My favorite Doc. Actually, the old Doctor Who shows really shows they can stretch the imagination with a shoestring budget. I was always more impressed with how they made the old Who as opposed to these days. Still I do like the new series and it would be fun to see what they would do for the 50th.

  • So what about your age tom come back we miss you

  • He's kicking isn't he. I was wondering if he's watching the new Doctor Who show.

  • Comment removed

  • He regretted skipping the Five Doctors and he's turning down one last opportunity to reprise the role?

    I am disappoint.

  • god hes changed

  • They explained away Peter Davison's aging in Time Crash. I don't see why they couldn't do the same for Tom Baker.

  • It's disheartening that so few Doctors are willing to do the fiftieth anniversary special, but I won't be too upset if Tom Baker doesn't do it. He's REALLY aged out of the role. The one I'm most upset about is Eccleston, because he's one of the few who's still young enough to repriese the role without showing how much time has gone by since he regenerated.

I do like Tom's idea for bringing the Doctors together, though. And I'd really love to see 4 interact with 11.

  • Tom Baker is a real nice man. you can tell that he said he didnt want to go back the first because he didnt want to step on Matts toes, he would rather act along side his fellow doctors that steal the spot light when its another doctors time in the spot light. lovely man :) i would love him to come back for the 50th, that would be great!

  • Dear Tom, if you came back it would make me and Millions and Millions of other Doctor Who fans evers so happy :)

  • That didn't surprise me.

  • I hope not, I will not have his character ruined by Extremilly poor writers. I Hope he never ever would lower himself to do something like New Who

  • Ah, screw Chris, WE GOT TOM!

  • @OttselSpy24 just curious, r u the one who posted this on the howling? ur username's similar

  • @imamadmad1 Yes, I am.

  • Probably not because they know he will indeed steal the show from the current doctor. After all, he IS Tom Baker. The greatest and definitive Doctor. Believe me, Tom isn't going to play second fiddle to the current actor playing the Doctor. He's gonna own the show...like he should.

  • @MetalheadJay78 Tom Baker is my favourite Doctor but I do think Matt Smith could hold his own with any of them. The only weakness the 50th anniversary will have is if Moffet writes it.

  • Tom Baker and any doctor who can come back as an alternative parallel world doctor who, who has taken better care of his regenerational cycle than this worlds doctor who's, please take in mind, "petes world" and "torchwood" of petes world, which was only started up because queen victoria met the doctor, that's the only way I think he can come back as he is, because I find it a little rediculous if he came back as the original doctor as he is, take "the time" crash for instants as an example.

  • @markhorneyuk

Especially with the whole time lock thing going on with Gallifrey. I find it ridiculous that he can cross his own time stream that easily, honestly.

  • @HalcyonOfAmaranth , exactually..... he's not black and skinny with curles and I bet most of his teeth not crooked anymore, they I bet they are all good looking false teeth....LOL

  • If Tom doesn't do it, he'll regret it later

  • has he done any big finish adventures? i'd love to listen to those

  • @Altmetalpunk There are 6 45-Minute plays coming from Big Finish starting in February 2012 and also a 4 CD Box with 2 Stories that belong in the "Lost Stories" canon featuring Four and Leela. There was an audio range planned with Four and Sarah-Jane, but, for obvious reasons, it won't see the light of day.

  • I love his voice...

  • Oh come on Tom!!!.....we'd love to see it happen.

  • god I love ths man. Read his biog, funniest book ever written

  • Did anyone ever work which was the most popular flavour of jelly baby picked from the bag by everyone he ever offered them to? I think we need to know.

  • If he appeared in the 50th anniversary, the ratings would go off the charts!

  • what if the whole adventure was in the doctor's head and he was receiving mental trauma from the master and it could account for the age difference because we know the doctor is scared of being in a body too old(The War Games)and in the end he uses all the experience of his past incarnations/companions to defeat the master and since and he could appear in all forms bringing back past masters, dead actors could be brought back through audio adventures/edited audio from other tv apperances.

  • "Let's hope"!

  • Peter Davison will probably be in it seeing as he's still pretty young plus he was already in a mini episode with david tennant

  • my favorite doctor. my favorite hair. my favorite voice. my favorite SCARF!

  • oh i love his voice :)

  • I so what love him to turn up

  • Tom Baker Is the 4th doctor

  • Interviewer: "It's the 50th anniversary of Doctor who in 2 years."

    Tom Baker: "Is it?"

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @borgduck

You have an obligation as the philosphy of a what Doctor Who stood for! You will do history justice and everyone understands time and aging more than anyone as a Whovian!

You look great for your age. I hope to look that good at 78 years young. Please

  • @CadmanEC He's 78? He does look fab! Like Fraser Hines!

  • @crazyhead217 the 50th is in 2 years(2013)

  • when exactly is the 50th anniversary??

  • @crazyhead217 23/11/13

  • @crazyhead217 23rd November 2013, I believe...

  • Actually, he did ask RTD about coming back as the Master.

  • Well here are 3 options...

    1. have the 50th adversary animated.(He still got a voice)

2.Find an actor that looks and acts the closest to him. (There is also the magic of CGI)

    3. Build a working TARDIS and go back in time.

  • @Daywalker727 Option 3! Option 3! Option 3!

  • @Daywalker727 I like 3

  • @Daywalker727 I've often had day dreams of making my own time machine, going back to capture all 11 actors for one big reunion special :)

  • @Daywalker727 or 4 have a temporal distortion taking place that affects the past doctors and is capable of destroying the doctors past from the moment of his origin... this would explain the lack of the first 3 doctors as well as the rapid aging process that the remaining doctors are going through that way the closser the incarnation is to the current doctor the time distortion will have less of an effect.

  • @Daywalker727 You know, TARDIS' are grown, not built.

  • I'd Estimate it'd be in some RPG

  • Or he could make a cameo as another character and it would still be epic!

  • I like his mad idea of the old Doctors being able to be talked to via the TARDIS

  • If if they just do some cheesy reunion special, it would be great to have all surviving doctors unite. Or even at a convention or something.

  • if he isnt dead yes

  • YES TOM BAKER CONSIDER IT!!!!!!!! OR JUST DOOOO IT!!!!!!

  • i love toms idea! more of the tardis and seeing to previous doctors! thats a great idea!

  • No he wont. He dosnt look like the doctor anymore :(

  • david tennant will most likely return in the 50th anniversary.

  • He'll be in the 50th anniversary ,mark my words.

  • all the doctors that are still alive should all meet in an alternate dimension, and if they touch, one random doctor would dissapear, and eventually the 11th doctor would be the only one left

  • Sci fi writers can come up with excuses for anything, they could have an alternate universe where the 4th doctor never regenerated and grew old instead... but I've got immense respect for Tom Baker to acknowlege that he couldn't do the part justice again after the change(s) that getting 30+ years older invoke.

I'm hoping we'll have a "Four Doctors" story with 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th. (McGann and McCoy's both said that they'll do it if asked)

  • i think they could make it so that the doctor goes through time to get to the 11ths time and in the process or like to contain the paradox their bodys age, i dunno im not steven :P

  • It won't be a 50th Anniversary without Tom Baker. And they can certainly explain his aging like they did with Peter Davison in Time Crash.

  • Rule 1: The Doctor Lies.

  • I have come up with the perfect way to bring back all the old Doctors. Well atleast the ones whose actors are still alive. I'm not sure if I should say it here, but... oh it'd just be wonderful if I could get it passed to Moffat and even more so if the actors agreed!!! ^_^ I'd love to see all the old Doctors back for an episode or two. I don't want to sound silly, but would someone please message me if they have "friends in high places" that could get an idea passed to Steven Moffat...

  • @siliconface Steven Moffat is on Twitter so you could contact him on there.

  • @ChucklevisionmanII I've tried, he never seems to reply. :-\ Nevertheless, I will continue to try and try again... one day I'll reach through. :-) I hope so atleast. XD

  • I'd like to see Tom Baker just make a small cameo

    nothing major or grand

just him making a small nod to Who's older days

also, he needs to make that face... you know the one

  • Doctor who tends to be good towards fan service. Which definitely makes this sort of suggestion a possibility. Only thing is... I'd prefer to see the doctors in their original forms, and not older fatter versions of themselves. They could do a CGI mask or something I suppose... but then again The budget gets in the way :/

I'd definitely love to see Tennant, Smith, and Tom Baker in the same room together though.

  • @IINesasta And if were lucky, Peter Davison. Him and Tom Baker were my favorites, as well as Tennant.

  • they could make the look work. come on guys, this is dr who.

  • YES!!!! they need to maybe make his hair black and try to give him a young look, cause it wont feel the same if they keep the OLD look

  • They could bring him back, age him by having the master cancel his regenerating.

He wouldn't have to do loads of running, he could do some tardis based or intellectual stuff.

  • @NekoChanMaasta wish they would.

  • @mewmillion

They should do. I really don't get these actors who are really against reprising roles. Maybe it's a socialist thing :P (Tom and Chris were both Labour supporters, though Tennant was as well, so I dunno)

  • I met Tom baker

  • They should do an animated special with the still-living Doctors. That would address the problem of Baker, Davison, Baker 2 and McCoy having aged so much.

  • @atalex Davison might play the doctor in the 50th anniverary and McCoy...well put a wig and use make-up to cover some "wrinkles" he has and he will be great!

  • He could appear as a sort of holographic TARDIS interface and provide the voice.

  • I think if your going to do a big 50th anniversary you kind of need the old doctors but I think Tom had the right idea at the end I hope Steven Moffat is listening.

  • tom baker you have to :)

  • I think he mistook the question for being: "Would you STAR (by himself) in Doctor Who again as The Doctor?" rather than his suggestion (and my inference from the interviewer's question) that he be part of a returning ensemble. Either way, I agree 100% with him. Come home, Tom Baker! All Doctors welcome!

  • Its the Whocast!!!!!!!!!

  • Let's have a FEMALE doctor !!!

  • @ThingsThatReallySuck Let's not...

  • @kbudinsk No -- LET'S.

And she should be built like a total fox, with tits out to here, and scary smart.

  • They could play the part of what might have happened if they didn't regenerate. Different time streams. that way all the alive ones could make an appearance.

  • @Djinnmeister Rose meets Pete's World's Doctor, played by Tom Baker. Time Lords may exist there after all.

I'd also like to see their Master fight ours. End of the fight appears permanently lethal to Time Lords, but one of them walks away. We don't know which, and don't know which world they were on at the time. Played by some actor with sort of an angelic look. I'd think Paul Van Dyk, but I don't know if he can act or is interested in acting. But that sort of look.

  • @Djinnmeister That was the idea of the 30th Anniversary special they were going to do. Tom Baker was supposed to be a 4th Doctor who never regenerated. I liked that idea myself :D

  • @Djinnmeister FUCKING BEST IDEA EVER!!!

  • I doubted he would since he's old now and doesn't look like the man he was when he was teh doctor, the only way he could probably take part is if his doctor was recreated using CGI

  • @RedStar101 It worked with Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy

  • @ThomasJH268 Completely agreed! I've been saying this is an amazing possibly for 4,5,6,7 and perhaps with acting doubles and voice doubles possible 1,2,3 as well!

And that leaves every remaining Doctor happy to join in for the 50th apart from Chris...... >:(

  • @ThomasJH268 which was an extremely large budget film. would never work for an episode.

  • @RedStar101 Well, neither did Peter Davison, but they made that work.

  • @SickSilckMan Agree!! They should bring them all back! :D Well, the remaning ones :)

  • @RedStar101 they expained that in time crash i posted it on your channel
