The myth of neutrality keeps the evolutionist fooled into thinking they are free from bias. The media and education system have the largest blind spot going, yet preach constantly their religion of fear and hate. Enough!
@YochananMat Considering there is no such thing as an evolutionist, they are scientists, neutrality is true. There is bias in all of us, its called a human condition, and the more we are aware of our natural biases the more we can design experiments to protect our experiments from bias. Watch Bill Nye's 100 greatest discoveries, if you want a good overview on why science says what it does, many schools just tell you what to believe instead of showing you why you should and the methods used.
@IsLnDLdY Ethi9cs are a branch of philosophy actually, morals are just the general consensus on what is good and evil, which until more people use a scientific and philosophical approach to ethics, morality will continue to derive from religion.
@anubis2814 Also.. beliefs are a way of life that people truly live by. As u said ppl use it to assume they are good. Y is it that religion is the basis for good? Y isnt upbringing factored in or is it the societal norm to be religious?? I believe i have morals but im not religious.. its simple common sense.
I thought the new star wars were great but anyway fantastic video. I started realizing my cognitive dissonance a few months back and have since then been working to better my self—feels great! :)
@viiScorp Go to redlettermedia * com and watch the review to find out just why they were lazily done and broke pretty much every law of cinematography.
If Hitler thought he was a bad or evil person, I can't find any record in his speeches or writings. Still, I think there are some people, sociopaths, who may not thin they are good, but don't care.
Nice job and concise.Little by little, I can see the ripples and they are becoming a wave of consciousness. It is really encouraging when atheists use good examples of why people are wising up against religion for their own survival and the good of humankind.
I have been saying fo some time now that part of the problem is how people see themselves. This is why honest self reflection is SO important. "The unexamined life..." if you will. As for the Lake Wobegon effect, it sounds very much like the Dunning-Kreuger effect. A large part of the problem is the general lack of critical thinking skills.
@Shavarnarak How very cynical of you. And you maybe be right a majority of the time. Please keep in mind that people, likely yourself, act differently in public vs. private. Even though observing people may yield your findings, consider what the findings would be if you obsevered them in private and especially in times of emotional distress concerning a loved one. i.e. a parent/child dying in the hospital or the talk in the mirror of how best to teach one's child.
@anubis2814 from what I have seen: some people get lost in the "we can change the world" attitude of some student groups/majors while forgetting how the world really works. Someone can stand in defiance of something, but get ignored. Someone can try and blaze a path by using different language, but get looked at funny, someone can say "this is how the world should be" and get told to "shut the F*ck up" by people in the real world.
The ability to see one own dark sides (or try to do it with all our forces) is at the base of a humanistic approach, and it prevents us from de-humanize others (which is the most dangerous attitude a god virus "injects" into its victims).
On the subject of ethics I find interesting the approach proposed by Sam Harris: it is high time that science deal with morality too!
@deltaxcd It is rare that I feel guilt about what I do. There are periods that I have to go through humbling because I let myself get to disconnected from reality, but it is a difference between a judgmental self-analysis vs a non-judgmental analysis. Psychopaths are so disconnected from the reality that they don't need to care anymore.
Still, you do not tell any solution. The problem is that if you feel bad when you do evil things you must always fell bad because everything you do is evil in some way. You can only ignore that, same like creationists ignore evidence evolution or contradictions in bible.
Psychopaths are not disconnected from reality at all, they just lack some normal human functions but lack of these functions frees them from dissonance.
@deltaxcd I do not have any solution other than learning to be content with who you are, and accepting but being aware of your own hypocrisy. Philosophical Buddhism discusses this contentment a lot. Otherwise it is just part of the human condition and maybe we all need to seek counseling to deal with our problems.
@deltaxcd The issue is that there is no black and white. If there was an easy solution to this one problem we would probably have all of humanities problems fixed and the world would be perfect. The problem is is that much of our life is like trying to figure out how to drive a care with no instruction manual, while you are driving at top speed. and with only being able to observe other cars and drivers from your window to see how they do things.
@deltaxcd Many times you just have to fake it because people are so appearance based in their judgments that if you appear to not know what you are talking about they are more likely to go with someone worse than you but who can bullshit and manipulate people better. I've lost many women and jobs this way over the years thanks to my asperger's. The fact that you are able to understand and accept that is actually a step forward in self-awareness. Denial can be a useful temporary tool.
@boumar19721972 No I take everything from zeitgeist with a grain of salt and am very skeptical of them, especially with the poorly researched part one about religion, and making claims that weren't verifiable via actual history, and the 9/11 truthers. Addendum was better but I am still extremely skeptical.
I think those with antisocial ideals who get a thrill from being evil, in their hearts still believe they're not so bad and are having fun. Most satanists don't go around murdering people, they like it when they're called evil 'cause it makes them feel all counterculture but they don't violate their own morality in any huge way. I mean, I've felt the thrill from the idea of evil before, and didn't do anything I considered unjustifiable
btw, where can I see vid of you at the youtube gathering?
@crocoshocker Actually Satanists are mostly atheists who just have a different set of morals that christians. The levayan deadly sins are kind of the ones forgotten by the bible but pretty important. My series The roots of all evil discusses these partial philosophies.
At 4:40-ish when you're kinda pausing in what you're saying I was thinking about how if it were me, listening to my pauses and the "scratchiness" of my voice, I'd be cringing SO much, but when it's you and I'm just listening I'd never consider it unless you specifically brought it up (which you did) When I see my self or you yourself on vid we don't actually see ourselves as others see us. We're contrasting our intended appearance right next to reality, where others aren't
I know it isn't an important part of your video, but I'd like to point out that the chart depicting smoking cognitive dissonance needs an extra slot. "Smoking is unhealthy > But I like it & I am addicted"
Most of us either like it too much so we don't quit or are so addicted that quitting is a terribly difficult thing to do.
Btw, additional reference for the bad people think they do good. There is some famous mob boss who believed that his actions were "for the public good."
@sandform Actually in Sicily the concept of Mafia was created as a form of self defence for the local communities who were in the past constantly harassed by the mainland Italians. The fact that something as functional as that can turn in to terrorism is because certain things that are good in the past, or in a certain community, in small areas, can become horribly destructive when empowered at a larger scale or in the future. Religion/nationalism being the prime example.
I guess practicing self-criticism is not an innate characteristic as soon as you can hide behind a certain group of power. The cohesion factor guarantees that although most of us are far below the average when it comes to achievements, creativity, etc. the more prominent results of the group(certain individuals) reflects positively on the personal identity. There are several examples I can think of, like football for example.
@eldadevata Using the achievements of a certain individual, to create a positive image for a certain group is the core of religion, politics and show business. Without this factor, we wouldn’t have most of the things we have today. One good example is heterosexual male chauvinism. Most males are hardly “James Bond”, but most of them do construct a self-image based on similar perceived masculinity, thus gaining the empowerment to ask out and date women far above their borders.
A bit off topic, but reference George Lucas: There is a channel on YouTube called Redlettermedia who does a scathing review of the prequels and you get to see how everyone sucks up to good ole George. The reviews are quite funny and worth checking out.
Loved that cartoon, reminds me of a christian who is pro-life but at the same time says that, and I quote: "God hates freaks" (he was refering to a conjoined twin, I think)
I don't know if I agree with this. I know many Christians who truly believe and will tell me to my face that God thinks we are all horrible, filthy, sinful people. Maybe the word evil doesn't appear there, but I'm not sure they would deny it if I tried to use that word with them.
@PainefulMass As Bill Maher put it, "Religion is arrogance masquerading as humility" While they may say they are sinners they believer people who aren't saved are even worse sinners.
Please stop being so over analytical about yourself. There was a fine young atheist named Clark Adams that went down the same road you are going down and committed suicide. Please read his eulogy. Google: Clark Adams eulogy
then choose from the google list choose godlessgrief.blogspot
@KasparHauser5 This is meant to point out the issue of cognitive dissonance, believe me, I battled depression for many years, I have not had a depressive episode for 5 years. Improving oneself does not equal the same thing as beating oneself down.
I agree. I think most people think their actions are justified, or justifiable. The only thing I might balk slightly at is the idea that the time of armchair philosophy is past. Unless, of course, you were referring to the dissapearance of armchairs. I just noticed my chair doesn't have any arms. Do you have any objection to armless chair philosophy? Hmm. I guess that's considered stool philosophy. ;-) Great vid anubis. Thanks. I think it's an amazing piece. Fav'd.
I TOTALLY know where you are coming from with the Asperger's and being in groups. Sometimes, if I am not paying attention, I get really weird and silly and start saying inappropriate or bizarre things - or worse, oversharing. All the while, I am in my head watching the event and wondering what the Hell is wrong with me.
Well thats how i always think :I might as well share it :I if people don't like it...then *re-evaluates the situation to make them the truth hating fools.* *is never wrong* Nothing is wrong with you (from your own perspective) unless you think your in the wrong! Unless you think X will fulfil your desires and it wont or x is true and its not, wrong and right = nothing.
@unassumption Of the 21 comments on here, 12 are yours, I hope you clean up the mess you made on here when you sober up. I have a feeling you will also feel extremely embarrassed when you do.
if you've ever seen my sober comment walls (500 characters is NOT enough to say anyting of value) you'll know these are my views. Alcohol doesn't change them - just makes me more willing to say them. Aspergers be damned alcohol lets me speak! What logical reason is there for a person's actions to be guided by anything other than THAT person's beliefs and values? Don't value what you can't achieve - which is constrained by how others will treat you (game theory?) but aside from that
you should be glad you got so many comments. I'm happy if i get 12 on my stuff. Sure you put more effort in and more facts. I agree with most of what your saying just disagree that people *should* have this disconnect between who they are and what they want to be. Be whatever you can be. Your desires should reflect what *you* need and can get since they're *your* desires. We're in a group AND a social species so that will be reflected but u should guide by what U believe and want.
Maximize the chance of you getting what you want with minimal opportunity cost. That's my philosophy. Don't value what's unattainable, remember game theory, remember your natural limits, don't let rules stand in your way, or word/emotion play manipulate you, or your own steryotype of yourself make you think you should do X or Y to be "you." Rational self interest has the benefit of helping everyone. Guilt over what the PAST won't change it. YOU acting on other's values won't achieve YOURS.
I never make mistakes >.> even when i'm drunk. I won't delete anything unless you want to delete it. Think what i said = relevant. Agree people WANT to be 'good' (social definition) but that doesn't mean they should i.e. that that's an efficient means of them achieving the things they wish to achieve. Especially when it involves absolute, un-grounded, wordplay-led rules.
If you think ANYTHING i said is shameful - POINT IT OUT! abstract "u r wrong" is for creationists!
I don't fit in with other people because I'm too lazy too. They stupid for loving other people! The best way to live your life is to GO WITH THE FLOW! realize life is MEANINGLESS and live as who you are, don't resist change, be lazy! Make YOU your ideal self - but don't let that be a barrier to learning, make you (and whatever u become) good
Extraverts are more likely to be criminals and STD transmitters! Introverts (i.e. 'autistics' like us) are the real winrars! We the master 'mental race'!
Haz no lover because i haz no ideal! Title does not dictate other people's behaviour any more than it does our own! If hitler believed the jews were a zombie apocylipze he was a TRAGIC HERO. i SAD for hitler :( We need to realise we ALL hitler - potentially. No power we not hitler. Hitler lived a good life but damn he could've been a slacker - got what he wanted with minmal effort - if he didn't believe that BS! If u fight 'evil' u DON'T get twinge of regret - i bet hitler didn't - that problem!
@unassumption Are you drunk? I hate to say this but nothing you said in your 7 posts makes any sense or furthers humanity. Going with the flow is great but 1 billion people are starving on this planet.
if people didn't care about wordplay and emotional manipulation we'd probably do things differently, and reshape our economy to minimize work for ourselves (who matters apart from us? only individuals care or act!) while maximizing what we get...and probably maximize what other starving ppl get (by minimizing their breeding whatever their "right" to overpopulate says) . World could EASILLY be improved but it won't be -so fuck it! And yeah! i r teh drunk oh mightly ginger lord :I
like the "sperm is not a person" thing. sperm IS a potential person. recognize the truth. but don't be guided by words like "person" we're all part of a process. food is potentially a liver for a baby the mother who eats the food has. We should be guided by reality not wordplay, but are :( because our throughts are in the medium of language, and all its metaphores and rhetoric influence our "logic." If its not proven in the realm of chemistry, its not real :(
If you have any reasons why I as an individual should help humanity the species, voice them. I don't share its values, when its masses feel pleasure or pain i don't, its future is not of my concern as I'll be dead then, nor is its survival. I am an individual - why should i care about the group? In so far as i care because i'm a social species and i care because the economy is such a web, yes.
How does 'discussion' ever 'futher humanity.' Your entertaining, best u tuber, but 'further humanity'?
@unassumption Luckily, most people are not like you, or the human race would have been extinct a long time ago. On the other hand, you wouldn't be here either, so I guess it's a mixed blessing.
So if most people didn't care about wordplay and rhetoric, only about their long term self interest (which if you ever read any economics is linked to everyone elses) homo sapiens would go extinct? Elaborate the mechanism whereby rational egoism = extinction, but following dogmatic absolute word-based moral codes = prosparity? Even if not it does lead to extinction - WHY should i care If it doesn't hurt me or the people i give a damn about? Appeal to consequences mo fo.
I'm evil (does things society thinks are bad) but i'm the minority (autistic?) and think most ppl r stupid. Good and evil r meaningless wordplay semantics issues. I do whats in my long term self interest! When i think strait!
Great to see you making videos my ginger gawd!
I do tend to do whatever the majority oppose (defend criminals, paedos, mentally ill) for political reasons - they hatted by most so NEED me more. I need to be needed :) not that i want to be oposed to most just NEED needed!
All animals are parasites - like me! I make my ideal self = me, its the only way to always be happy. Though worst way to improve! I wish the world would be more of a slacker so it didn't overproduce, over-pollute and over-work! Over-hate that's the human mantra! Good people are those who are likely to do what's in their long term self interest, good people (for me) are those likely to do what's in MY long term interest! Evil is meaningless! Being anti this retarded society = autistic epicness!
Title shouldn't dictate behavior - though our past and vision of ourselves = our title!
I always improving myself! aiming to be better! i'll never be my ideal self (minimal effort, maximum happiness!) but i can be closer to it! Why live for social norms when u could live for yourself? i can't live but anything I have done = good, like my race = master race because it contains ME! Power = goodness! Good = meaningless!
Anubis, I am on awe of how you express exactly my outlook and belief system. You should be secretary of state, with thunderfoot as president

So, this explains cognitive dissonance. But what is solution of this problem?
everyone lives with contradicting values ignoring the reality and feeling constant guilt, except few psychopaths who are free of that problem.
isn't that strange that this time psychopaths are actually more sane than normal people?

Loved that cartoon, reminds me of a christian who is pro-life but at the same time says that, and I quote: "God hates freaks" (he was refering to a conjoined twin, I think)
That's hypocrisy for you.

"No one thinks they are evil."
I don't know if I agree with this. I know many Christians who truly believe and will tell me to my face that God thinks we are all horrible, filthy, sinful people. Maybe the word evil doesn't appear there, but I'm not sure they would deny it if I tried to use that word with them.
PainefulMass 1 year ago
@PainefulMass As Bill Maher put it, "Religion is arrogance masquerading as humility" While they may say they are sinners they believer people who aren't saved are even worse sinners.
anubis2814 1 year ago 11
@PainefulMass
But that's a bad image of them in the abstract. I bet if you asked them if they thought they were good, they'd say yes.
See what Ray Comfort says, in the same speeches saying that we're all sinners, liars, and thieves.
SiriusMined 1 year ago
@PainefulMass
yes alot of religious people will tell other people that that they (the other people) are evil.
the westboro baptist church will hold up signs that say "god hates america" and "america is doomed", but of course that doesnt apply to them.

Please stop being so over analytical about yourself. There was a fine young atheist named Clark Adams that went down the same road you are going down and committed suicide. Please read his eulogy. Google: Clark Adams eulogy

@KasparHauser5 This is meant to point out the issue of cognitive dissonance, believe me, I battled depression for many years, I have not had a depressive episode for 5 years. Improving oneself does not equal the same thing as beating oneself down.
anubis2814 1 year ago

All the while, I am in my head watching the event and wondering what the Hell is wrong with me.
deriamis 1 year ago
Well thats how i always think :I might as well share it :I if people don't like it...then *re-evaluates the situation to make them the truth hating fools.* *is never wrong* Nothing is wrong with you (from your own perspective) unless you think your in the wrong! Unless you think X will fulfil your desires and it wont or x is true and its not, wrong and right = nothing.

@unassumption Of the 21 comments on here, 12 are yours, I hope you clean up the mess you made on here when you sober up. I have a feeling you will also feel extremely embarrassed when you do.

@anubis2814
if you've ever seen my sober comment walls (500 characters is NOT enough to say anyting of value) you'll know these are my views. Alcohol doesn't change them - just makes me more willing to say them. Aspergers be damned alcohol lets me speak! What logical reason is there for a person's actions to be guided by anything other than THAT person's beliefs and values? Don't value what you can't achieve - which is constrained by how others will treat you (game theory?) but aside from that
unassumption 1 year ago
@anubis2814
you should be glad you got so many comments. We're in a group AND a social species so that will be reflected but u should guide by what U believe and want.
unassumption 1 year ago

I'm better than some ppl and worse than others - at recognizing truth, at getting my self interest, at impact world.
We all have strenghts and weaknesses. Always room to improve!

Going with the flow is great but 1 billion people are starving on this planet.
anubis2814 1 year ago
@anubis2814
if people didn't care about wordplay and emotional manipulation we'd probably do things differently, and reshape our economy to minimize work for ourselves (who matters apart from us? only individuals care or act!) while maximizing what we get...and probably maximize what other starving ppl get (by minimizing their breeding whatever their "right" to overpopulate says) .

We should be guided by reality not wordplay, but are :( because our throughts are in the medium of language, and all its metaphores and rhetoric influence our "logic." If its not proven in the realm of chemistry, its not real :(
unassumption 1 year ago
like the sperm we should always think of ourselves as potential...good...people! Always room to IMPROVE!

How does 'discussion' ever 'futher humanity.' Your entertaining, best u tuber, but 'further humanity'?
unassumption 1 year ago
@unassumption Luckily, most people are not like you, or the human race would have been extinct a long time ago. On the other hand, you wouldn't be here either, so I guess it's a mixed blessing.
tml4873 1 year ago
@tml4873
Appeal to consequences mo fo.
unassumption 1 year ago
If my goal is to make ME happy, why should other people starving make ME sad? It doesn't computer.
If I CAN'T help those people - best to not care about them! Otherwise (Buddha say!) u just dissapoint!
As if fitting in with society like a good person will help the starving masses.
if there's some objective logical reason why i should care about something I can't do shit to help, give it.
would it make me happier, more fulfilled, richer? no it'd make me sad coz i can't do shit to help.

I need to be needed :) not that i want to be oposed to most just NEED needed!
unassumption 1 year ago
All animals are parasites - like me! I make my ideal self = me, its the only way to always be happy. Though worst way to improve! I wish the world would be more of a slacker so it didn't overproduce, over-pollute and over-work! Over-hate that's the human mantra! Good people are those who are likely to do what's in their long term self interest, good people (for me) are those likely to do what's in MY long term interest! Evil is meaningless! Being anti this retarded society = autistic epicness!
unassumption 1 year ago
Title shouldn't dictate behavior - though our past and vision of ourselves = our title!
I always improving myself! aiming to be better! i'll never be my ideal self (minimal effort, maximum happiness!) but i can be closer to it! Why live for social norms when u could live for yourself? i can't live but anything I have done = good, like my race = master race because it contains ME! Power = goodness! Good = meaningless!
OT MORALITY IS SO TRIBE SPECIFIC!
unassumption 1 year ago
morality like most human ideas is just semantics. power is everything real!
I'm a introvert so i don't need or care for people's "morals" i seem to oppose them! if possible!
fuck words like "vices" "crimes" "rights" "duties" "freedoms" etc i care about REALITY! WANTS and NEEDS!
Certain ppl believing certain things might be empirically...in line with the desires of...certain people.
good is meaningless but certain definitions of 'good' may be empirically derived.
