  • LOVE Eddie! Genius.

  • The reason why you don't just go using the big guns in archaeology is because you don't really want to destroy anything .....you'll make more money and be more famous off of intact things than destroyed things, yeah?

still would be hilarious though if you could speed it up without ruining anything

  • @k24601 You can- its called a 6-ton Komatsu trackhoe with a welded steel plate on the bucket so it can skim the soil. Takes a real good operator that has some touch to do it correctly. Can have the midden stripped and down to the subsoil and excavating features in about a day.

  • Just noticed how massive his head is....

  • he is so right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They were chest-high walls actually.

  • @GermanConquistador08 They played Gears of War back then too.

  • Comment removed

  • @fidgetingfinch Yeh, but it was just called war then. They didnt add the Gears of part until recently.

  • and elephants dancing hopscotch over there

  • time team

  • We think this proves that they had walls. XD

  • a series of small walls!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LEEEETS GOOOOO!

  • This is why i feel all adults etc have ADD.

    Izzard is hysterical!

  • This was the conclusion to this semester's Archaeology topic. "Get that skull out the way!"

  • My friends think we go to a big convention every year and agree on whats true and what not and if we speak the truth then we are called a haritic and cant dig any more

  • I swear he's singing the Marathon Infinity theme at 1:41

He did a routine on Macintoshes at the end so it's not that far outside the realm of possibility! Marathon was the only game worth playing on the mac back then.

  • Explosives! If Archeology used explosives, it would be a lot more popular to watch on TV! :D

  • They often excavate the same site for upwards of 20 years :P

I love how everyone references Heinrich Schliemann. xDDD

  • I haven't laugh so hard in a long time at a comic...genius.

  • 8 people don't like kissing with tongues ):

  • I'm an archaeologist...and yes, it's true :(

  • It's funny because true! Series of small walls!

  • 15.7 meters down, I came in, I found it it's very precise it's HERE.

  • lols. speed archaeology. like national treasure :-)

  • "series of small walls" - so very very true!!!

  • Eddie ... is that what your loved ones call you? Oh Eddie ..so PURE with the knowledge given. You are so PURE with the knowledge given which I believe was just yours. So..So ..Innocent ..INNOCENT CHILD growing up in this world..Promises broadcasted sounded and swirled .. ....... ........let me know when you are coming to my town .... if you are not LOVED I LOVE .... just to take a walk with you

  • The bloke who discovered Troy destroyed most of it without realising, not very precise.

  • The reason they find so many "small walls" is because most of the things people build tend to end up as little humps of earth or stone after thousands of years. At least they do in Europe, where most old settlements either get knocked down and plowed over or wind up hidden under newer cities.

  • If history was this much fun and this hilarious back in school, I might have had sore sides for ever but I would have been a straight A student!!!!!!!!

  • "Tutankhamen playing banjo in there" looooooool

  • Never knew Tut-ankh-amon played the Banjo...well, you learn new things every day!

  • @Bjerhof Well, sure he did. Haven't you ever seen Steve Martin?

  • @Bjerhof Don't forget, he was born in Arizona, and he moved to Babylonia.

  • i'm studying archeology, and its exactly as he describes, series of small walls and shoveling dirt one millimeter ata time:)

  • Speed Archaeology :o)

  • on his tv channel in the 90's , he had speed archaelogy it was brill.

  • The digging music...does it remind anyone else of Mortal Kombat?

  • kick that skull out of the way lol

  • "We want SPEED archaeology! We want big fuckers with diggers!" You got 15 minutes to find the city! -- LMAO, he cracks me up SOOO much!

  • "You're making this up mate!" Love the way he says that haha!

  • I study archaeology at Durham. The "speed archaeology" bit reminds me of the Time Team dig at Binchester were they had two days and found a mausoleum.

  • Archaeologist here for 13 years. All true what he says heheh!

  • "We found a series of small walls, we're very excited. We think this proves they had walls in olden days." Haha! xD

  • Archaeology student here too XD

    ... and Ex-classics student.

    Eddie Izzard is so awesome!!

  • very precise tools. lol

  • I love archaeology and this skit. I laugh so hard I cry every time. :DDD

  • Fell off my chair laughing - about to start studying archaeology...;))

  • me too :)

  • True story

  • I showed this video to all my archaeology major friends before we started a dig and the whole class was crying from laughing so hard.

And guess what we found on the dig? A SERIES OF SMALL WALLS! XD

  • haha awesome.

  • A Series Of Small Walls!

My Parents (Eddie Izzard FANATICS) Made Me Watch His Shows As A Kid And I Will Be Eternally Grateful, He's A Bloody Genius!

    xxxxx

  • What shows did he do when you were young ?

  • Dress To Kill, Definite Article & Unrepeatable Are The Ones I Remember.

He Was Also On Talk Shows And Stuff Alot.

  • This is Glorious, and he has three more; Circle, Dress to Circle and Sexie.

  • In my opinion, Glorious and Dress to Kill were some of the funniest standups ever.

  • @jetfreak4 Definite article was better I think

  • dress to kill :)

  • lmfao exactally the same here. i grew up on him :)

and now im seeing him in november

  • Archaeology graduate, this is so true :D

    Love Eddie Izzard so much

  • Speed archarology!

15 minutes to find a city!!! LETS GO!!!

Amazing, Eddie Izzard is a genius!!

  • i saw him in london, in westminster he knocked over a sign at a cafe i was at, he looked cool in a suit n a beard :D it was a great moment.

  • @KaizerSozak2008

I would bet 10 to 1 some network channel would pick it up, too! XD

  • @monny287 ha ha that's the kind of archarology i'd watch

  • Another archaeology student, but only as a stepping stone into anthropology...

    This is really freakin' hilarious.

  • "A series of small walls!"

you'd be hard done to find an episode of time team where they didnt find a series of small walls! lmao

  • Lets GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

  • Aye, turned out he dug a 'bit' too deep.......the layer where Troy was supposed to be was two metres above him :P

And yep another archaeology student signing in :D

  • with of course, very precise tools. Those being dynamite and armies of Turkish unemployed armed with shovels of all sorts...never mind the important remains, we've got a city to find, lads!

    And another Archaeology student here.

  • I'm an Archaeology student!

    LMAO!!!

  • Lol I do archaeology too! :D

    Love this, made me giggle.

  • "Get that skull out the way!"

    The best. xD

  • as a history student this tickles me in funny places, heinrich Schliemann really fucked up his excavation of troy (he was basically a Troy fanboy)

ancient pottery is typically crap, the equivalent to modern plastic bags for their value in so many cases.

  • Yet another student of Archaeology :P: I laughed so much at this - It's all so TRUE :D

  • same here xD

  • "YOUR MAKING THIS UP MATE" lol lol lol

  • Yet another archaeology student checking in and ZOMG, I laughed til I cried!!

  • "Or maybe they've just got beards, I'm not sure..." XD

"Get that skull out the way!!"

  • Love Eddy Izzard, but the German actually destroyed the real troy to get to an earlier city, shame really..

  • Yeah Schlieman (if I'm spelling him right) was a bad archaeologist...

Had to waist my time with him when studying Mycenaean Archaeology.

  • Hello, Archaeology 101!

  • "let us kiss w/ tongues!"

  • Get that skull out of the way!

  • lmao as an archaeology student this is great

    i love archaeology comedy!

  • I love Eddie comedy in all its forms.

  • I love the music he starts imitating during the digging. ^^

  • as an archaeologist I must say this hits very close to home lol, sometimes you just scream when you have to slow down for the evidence.

  • lol I have been watching Eddie's videos for the last half hour and I love this guy. The first video of his I watched was his Death Star Canteen vis, that was simply hilarious, I've memorized the entire video.

  • the wet tray issue is inter-galactical

  • Haha amazing, he's fantasic.

I'm doing a degree in Archaeology, do people really think we make stuff up?

  • i'm studying archaeology myself too. And my classmates and I couldn't stop laughing when we saw this ^^

i know that we don't ;) but when I'm watching a discovery programme I always thinking: yeah right

  • @Gjem me too and when he was talking about 'a series of small walls' I was virtually on the floor because...lets face it...we always find them :)

  • It does seem modern Archaeogogists use a lot of artistic license.

  • do you do archaeology?

  • did you ever see that bbc series with computer-generated dinosaurs (on a couple years ago) and that actor guy or so-called archeologist? that was hilarious for it's use of artistic license - that programme used to really piss me off.

  • nah

  • Im doing an archaeology degree too, this is freaking hilarious! lol

  • @ebony0232 im not myself studying archaiology but i really want to whats it like?

  • @ebony0232 I studied Archaeology, too. The reality is that we DO make most of it up. They may be educated guesses, but they're still guesses.

  • @ebony0232 Well it is always strange how on stuff like time team people go 'Yes there was this city and this battle which happened maybe around here somewhere so...we shall dig up this corner of this random field around this random town where they happen to have lots of blue vinny and who knows what we shall find.' and they always find a series of small walls.

  • @ebony0232 Can blame the pseudo-archaeologists for that one >_<

  • @ebony0232 Kinda, yeah. You guys are not really popular amongst history professors I can say. Not my professors at least.

  • @ebony0232 as with any science, archaelogy includes a certain amount of speculation - TV archaelogists, pandering to an insatiable public, probably speculate more than "regular" archaelogists. I believe that is the gist of Eddie's joke.

  • Oh, lord... how true! A millimeter of dirt... *snort* Love it! A series of small walls! So, so true! Pottery everywhere!

  • there's elephants dancing hopscotch in that room

    ...

and Tutankhamun playing banjo over there

    rofl

  • "Queen Helen! Let us kiss with tongues!" LOL

  • Hahaha, They DO make that stuff up!! I thought I was the only one who thought so!!

  • lmao it's true they ALWAYS find walls, i should know... DAD *cough cough* haha

  • a series of small walls haha
