Read the two lines before your quoted reference 4.54-4.56 the Quran talks about those who opposed the scriptures which were revealed to Prophet Abraham which was over 1,400 years ago!!

Polytheism is a great sin in relation to the Bible and the Quran.I like to study similarities among religions. And Judaism, Christianity and Islam are more similar than you would think. Religion tells you the history and culture of one nation. If you read someone's book that is opinionated about his beliefs, you will not know much about the real history behind all this.
