The first time I saw this bump, and heard the music, I thought all those 'producers' were different people. I was so excited that I scrambled to find a piece of paper and pencil to write this down and was so dissapointed when I coudn't get Jay Dee's real name down.
@razedeezy Well now they're starting to use more of the rare/unreleased dilla beats... not on the bumps that get played all the time like before a show starts, but for those little random messages when they go to a commercial break or when answering emails...just the other day I heard "Dee Zee" and "Don't Say A Word" which are from Old Donuts. And the instrumental to "T.Love - When You're Older"...a Dilla produced track
The only shady thing about this bump though, is that it showed months after he died. Which is sad, i don't think AS broad casted any dilla beats before he died.
@OperationDEE they did..and madlib's and madvillains and peanut butter wolf.. william street records( adult swims record label) has ties with stones throw, be on the lookout for a new DOOM album coming from willam street
@OperationDEE Nah, they were playing Dilla beats since they started putting music in their bumps. It wasn't strictly Dilla cuz y'know, they had other artists, but they did play his stuff.
@jaydiesel21 LOL. Yes. Those were all different monikers of Dilla's. The runner up was his real name. That's just stuff from Donuts too. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Let's give FlyLo a few years, he's my favorite to listen to right now, but he's just begun, probably hasn't even begun to seriously drop shit on us yet, he's gonna do some serious producing/composing though. 5 years from now and he'll be a god.
@islandchick12 Mos' def. Cosmogramma is blowin shit up and, it'll definitely help cement his legacy. He could have released Los Angeles 2.0 and it would have been good, but he took it to the next level with Cosmogramma (maybe even a couple levels past "the next level"). If Mr. Lotus can keep his shit going and growing when all's said and done he'll be king. He's not even confined by genre anymore, he could wind up like an electronic music-Mingus for our age, now wouldn't that be fun to hear?
thank you for posting this.. i was too geeked when i seen this bump..i love the fact that the guys behind adult swim are hip hop heads (or whoever thats on the creative board for those bumps)
Don't you just love when people watch adult swim that don't listen to underground say, "That beat is cold as fuck, who is it?" And you just about always know the answer to the "who made it" question? :stupid lemmings:
@MartianGemini92 I'm just curious, does that mean that you didnt know who produced these beats the first time you heard them on the [AS] Block or what?
Does anyone know where i can find the music they played for the Dear Adult Swim bumpers? It came on last night if anyone watched watched it and if you knew who has it. Apreciate it.
you are right, but it's not just that fools dont know homie, sometimes people do know but for some inexplicable reason they just refuse to fully admit the extent of his greatness, i've argued many times with friends who put primo and pete rock above dilla even though they damn know jay dee was the godfather of this shit, thats how it is sometimes, the dee just dont get the respect he deserves is what i think and that my friend is a damn shame
Damn haven't seen this one yet. Does anybody know all the Donuts' tracks that they've played. When I go through it I swear I've heard half of the joints on Adult Swim bumps.
the following Donuts were bumps: Workinonit Waves Mash Airworks Lightworks Stepson of the Clapper (in this bump only) Geek Down Thunder Gobstopper *Donuts (Intro) and Donuts (outro) (only in this bump as well) ---a dying metaphor---
Nice. I've had Donuts on rotation a lot lately. Shit is so ill for the equipment he created it on, especially in his dying days, all the way down to his final days on his hospital bed.
Damn man, RIP, I don't think he'll ever be forgotten. This definitely put a lot of people on to who he was, because he's done so much classic shit behind the scenes. It seems like nobody really knew who he was other than the hardcore hip-hop heads, and his peer producers.
Dilla's presence will FOREVER be felt. His spirit is brought back to life everytime his songs are played. Listening to a Dilla beat is like going to an altered state, you get lost in the moment and lose yourself in the rhythms, once its finished you just wanna go back. Dilla deserves better than people talking shit without knowing his repertoire. He produced on his deathbed in the hospital until his hands became too swollen to use. Dilla DEFINES TRUE HIPHOP, fully devoted to the art until death
