  • im learing the 12 major scales and the arpeggios! and my teacher told us to play melonic and hourmonic but idk whats the difference and i have troublee learning thee scales and my fingers iits really hard catching up on things and to be honest whn we play the major scales the whole band

i pretend that i knw actaully playing but i jst guess in the notes and i get lost help me its hard i regret getting in to this i got in band since freshmen year im a junior

  • Weird can u show us all the notes

  • You know what you are doing

  • What about the second octave?

  • I bet ya you don't know the arpeggios. by the way its c major scale. your also sharp.

  • @PROl33tgam3r Wow, thanks. I posted this a little over 3 years ago and didn't even notice at the time.

  • lawl thats normal speed? it was slow from the start

  • my problem is that whenever i thry to play high b or high c, i can't cover the 3 holes on the bottom portion! so it doesn't make a sound! ad wheever it does, it makes this really annoying high pitched squeak

  • thank u this helped me 4 my test tommorow

  • thank u

  • I am in the 8th grade. im playing bass clarinet. if i get in marching band i have to play clarinet!explain how clarinet works

  • @littlesdchick Uh u said Octive key again! LOL :)

  • can u do a gliss cuz i rlly need help on tht

  • It sounds to airy!! I hate that!! Hopefully your sound is better now

  • I am just beginning the clarinet! During rehearsal we only go up to A! So when Im practicing by my self I get to the B note and it is realllyyy high! Is it suppose to sound like that? Oh and how do I play without the sqeaking when I play the B note and I only have problems with the B note! Helppp please

  • @Victoria9836 If you are just beginning clarinet, you shouldn't be playing a b yet, you should work on proper tonguing and embouchure. I didn't get to the high be until the end of my first semester of band. I'm now in concert band in middle school and playing three octave scales.

  • can you sown us how to play a harmonice minor

  • Sweetie, no offense, but you need a tutor yourself....

  • Its a register key.... and octive key is on a saxophone....

  • @littlesdchick can you make a video playing jeopardy theme song with the notes so I can see

  • Thanks this helped me!

  • Thank you and I subscribed in hopes of improving.

  • you should go into higher octaves and try not to stop after high c overall nice

  • Why do you tilt your head when you play?

  • WOOOW u suck u dont even seem to know the arpesio!

  • @Diddlegirl1997 What's an arpesio? I think you mean arpeggio...

  • @Diddlegirl1997 Arpeggio. Get your Italian right.

  • @sarahhauffen

    Bb Scale = C Major

  • @StarrellaProductions I think she 'meant' to say Concert Bb Major which is C Major on all Bb instruments (Tenor/Soprano Saxophone, Trumpet, Clarinet). This would be Bb Major on all Concert pitch instruments (Piccolo, Flute, Trombone, Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon, etc.) and G Major on all Eb instruments (Alto/Baritone Saxophone). Keep in mind Concert does not mean Major. Concert pitch refers to an instruments key and Major refers to the quality of a chord or scale.

  • can u do Ab 2 octives very slow

  • gurl dhats wrong its C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C

  • I'm having a problem with F and also G. Whenever I play it, my clarinet falls down!!! lol It looks like you're right hand fingers are over the keys still, but just not pushing down. How can you support it this way?

  • @whack47 Your clarinet has a thumb rest on the back right? If so, put your thumb under there and just hold the rest of it lightly. If not, you need one!

  • @littlesdchick can you

  • @whack47 get a neck strap

  • @omgitsaoe You don't need a neck strap for a little Bb Clarinet, you might need one for the Bass Clarinet, though, a peg is way better for the Bass.

  • @jesselawenforcement you don't *need* it but there is lots of evidence showing that wearing a neck strap for ALL clarinets helps prevent damage to your hands and promotes better technique anyways.

  • @omgitsaoe Hmmm, maybe that's why my fingers are messed up (Clarinet joke)! My Clarinet doesn't have a place to hook up a neck strap though... Well, I guess it's too late for me than!! :D

  • Is it a Bb?

  • @sleeva123 Bb clarinet? Yes

  • @littlesdchick

can u do a gliss if u can then can u like show me tht would b so helpful

  • I was looking for the All State Honor Band one . (: But i remember when i was just beginning & i came across this . Well I'm ready for Symphonic band :D If i pass the test ): . Well you helped alot in the beginning .

  • @iiLibbyy I'm so glad I could help and good luck on your test! I'm sure you'll do great, and if not there is always next time!

  • fai cagare brutta troia

  • can you do a segment on a flat scale cause that is what i need help on thanks

  • Got a question for you. I'm fairly new to this, OK, but have you got any hints about playing very high C, the one where you play the register key and the thumb only. I cannot seem to get any sound except the sound of air coming through. What should I be doing?

  • @Ginny2708 Make sure you're covering all of the holes completely. Also, a lot of air will come out in the beginning. Blow really hard and it'll probably squeak, but just keep practicing and eventually it'll work.

  • maybe make your clarinet sound better and u r a pro! u probably are now because this vis is posted so long ago. I can't get to the higher reg as fast.. though I'm working on it

  • Waaaay cool----I enjoy your tutorials and your out-going style, Thanks-A-Million!

  • great...................

  • om its called register key lol not octave key

  • @terry5501 acutually they are some times called octave beause it changes into another octive like 2 ocative scales

  • hi im a clarinet (first chair) and i wanted to know if any one usea the red book blue book and the black book? because my school does. and Im on blue almost to black like three pages and its my first year!

  • i finally got all my major scales down(:

  • @jazzysince94 Sorry for the late reply. Maybe you should try some alternate fingerings. There are a lot of fingering charts online or in clarinet books!

  • IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH B AND C like how do i

press the octave key at the back and g at the same time?!

  • @mmmdragon1 And G? Do you mean the F key for your thumb? If so, just put your finger on the back key and tilt it slightly so it's lightly touching the register key. Maybe try putting your thumb on the F key and the register key at the same time? Sorry, it's kind of hard to explain. I hope that's what you meant. If not, reply and I'll try and revise my answer... Good luck!

  • @littlesdchick ahah my bad typo yeah i meant F yeah that helps a bit, but like why does it squeak ? do i have to change something to, get the note out or something ?

  • @mmmdragon1 Well, at first those are really difficult notes. I remember trying to play them in the beginning and getting really frustrated but just continue practicing and things should improve. Also make sure the sides of your mouth are tight and make sure your fingers are completely covering the holes.

  • For the notes that are all 6 fingers an the incide key you van hold the next notes fingering at the same time to make things alot easier ( i dont know i you spell easier like that)

  • Bb major scale/c scale goes cdefgabccbagfedc not cdefgabcbagfed not bcb

  • you are doing a TFUU TFUUU TFUUU on your clarinet. try play Daaaaaadaaaaaadaaaaadaaaa

  • Hey ... AWESOME! You know what would help, is IF you say the fingering as you go.... The notes aren't as important as the fingerings for those notes ... just a suggestion.... BUT, "C" above middle "C" is what I'm trying to figure out.... From what I see it's a little tougher.

  • Wow ... she's just a kid and you're giving her some quite discouraging words??? Not cool! Not cool! Give her a break... She's just trying to help....

  • Okay, i've removed my comment, because it was a little harsh I must admit. Sorry.

  • THANK U SO MUCH!!!!! U don't know how much this is going 2 save me tomorrow! =)

  • xDDDDDDDD!!!

  • no affence but u kinda suck

  • no affence, but you can't spell .... this gal is just trying to help out ... that's all ... why give her such a hard time??? Come on!

  • can you do the f scale 3 octives while playing tounging up real fast but at the same time in tone and slured all the way down fast? Its not that hard its actually kind of easy.or do all your scales to 2 or three octives?oh right me back if you can or want.

  • I mostly do 2 octaves. I'll try F though! Haven't really tried it... Thanks for the comment.

  • when you played with effects how did the notes go lower?

  • I just slowed it down and it did that for some reason...haha... Thanks for the comment!

  • do you mean that you slowed down the scale or the video?

  • The video. That's why it sounds different. I should have just played it slower but...

  • Your not good enough to turtor if you don't event play the second octave for the few advanced people out there. Also you could play the second octave to show the begginers how cool the clarinet is. Lastly, the hardest part about a scale is the arpeggio, I think you should show them that. It's C E G C G E C! Also you should go over the fingering MUCH better. You also should explain the math and science behind scales so they understand the Frequency Theory and the math equations.Say the reason too

  • Thanks for the advice! I have some other videos up showing the fingerings of these specific notes which is the reason I didn't review them very much and also the reason I only played one octave.

  • What about the science and the second oct. also the arpeggio and state the reason as to why scale are needed.

  • The reason I didn't play the second octave is because this is based toward the beginners, and I haven't taught the notes yet. As for the science, it's a good idea.

  • Thank You SOO MUCH!!You Should Be a Music Teacher!!

  • Thank you!!

  • I need the fingerings, I'm really bad with notes!

  • Hey are you in a band class? if you are ask your teacher for a fingering chart it has the notes and the notes on the measures and the fingerings its soooooooo helpful!! and if you dont pick one up at ur local music store or download it off the internet and print it!

  • thank you!

  • no prob glad to help :)

  • Sorry for the late reply!! Demiselenaalways already suggested a great idea! If you can't get a fingering chart, go check out some of my other videos which show how to finger the notes. :D

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks!!!! :)

  • i dont undderstand!!! cause i listen Bb,C,D,Eb,F,G,A,Bb... not C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C

or the clarinet sound diferrent??? i play flute, im learning clarinet.... what u do when you play whit other instruments?? u have to converse the scales?? sorry, my english isnt very good :P

  • I think this is because flute plays in concert key. In other words, for the Bb scale you actually play Bb but clarinet is a different kind of instrument. The notes are not in concert key.

  • I already know my C scale, both octave's!!! but your good

  • That's awesome! I know it both octaves as well, but this is only one octave for beginners.

  • What are the notes on the C scale two octaves?

  • C major scale or C for the clarinet?

This is C for clarinet (Bb major.)

  • i am not sure that is how you play?

  • Sorry, I don't know what you mean.

  • is the clarinet hard??

  • At first, like all instruments, it is hard. Once you practice a lot, it gets easy. :)

  • i have trouble playing my high notes n i m always under the pitch! any advice

  • The high notes take a long time to be able to play. It might take more pressure on the mouthpiece, try moving your mouth different places on the mouthpiece, and make sure your fingers are completely covering each hole. As for being under pitch, if you mean this is only for the high notes adjust your embouchure and mouth until it sounds right. If it is for all notes, make sure each piece of your clarinet is pushed in as far as possible. If so move your mouth farther down on the mouthpiece.

  • thnks

  • YOU SKIPPED D

    the highest note

  • Yes, some people play it with high D and some don't. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • Why slow it down with effects? Just play each note as a whole note...

  • Good point. I was just messing around I guess. Thanks for commenting!

  • Make sure you curve your fingers

  • thanks for the comment!

  • I can do that in front of a live audiance BY MYSELF but ok i guess.

  • That's awesome!

  • it begins with a D not a C!

  • You may be thinking of a different scale. This is actually the C scale for clarinet. It's concert Bb.

  • your right

  • Hey! u did not show us the A.

  • Oh oops. I'm sorry!

  • Um hi i really really need help on changin from the high B to an A without accidentally pressing other notes!

  • At first the transition can be hard. Practice putting your fingers as quickly as possible. Also, for the note A the note doesnt change if you put your other fingers down so try putting the right hand down.

  • I know it`s hard but try to do the entire scale without taking a breath.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • i can do it with one breath

  • Cool!!

  • so that was normal..the first time?

    serious?

  • The first time was normal, the second time wasn't.

  • wheres a? I think you missed it

  • Where do you think I forgot it? I'll check it out.

  • umm she didnt miss it look closely!

  • where is the arpegio?

  • Would you like me to add it on?

  • yea thatd b cool

and ok i have issues with getting my high b and c's out do you have any advice? also getting good tone quality.....when i play my notes come out flat or lower than i know they should be...any advice?

  • can you do the upper octive

  • Once I teach the notes to the upper octave, I will post a video with 2. Thanks for watching!

  • oh okay cuz i can do it but i can't get the last note haha i don't practice that much

  • Well just practice, practice, practice. The upper octave notes are really hard to get at first.

  • i can't practice hahaha my clarinet is broken

  • Well if it gets fixed :)

  • hehe i can't play all state

  • thank you! i have a clarinet test tommorow and i really dont know any scales (last chair) ;p

  • Good luck!!

  • how can u play notes higher than b flat. cus every time i do, it squeaks

  • The low one or the high one?

  • Bb is with the A key and the register key which should come out pretty easily. Are you sure you're not talking about plain B?

  • i said higher than bflat not bflat and higher

  • Oh!! Sorry. I will put up videos soon to teach how to play those notes. If you don't to wait that long look up a fingering chart and it will show you how to play all of the notes on the clarinet.

  • you should make a tutoral of how to play regular songs if you can your good 5/5

  • Thanks so much for watching!! I'll try and find some songs on the internet but I can't do it from a book because they're copyright.

  • thankk youu ! <3 :)

    jesus ! ; you saved me :)

i have a CLARINET TEST TOMMOROW

    your a lifesaver ! :)

  • No problem! Good luck!

  • This would be a really useful video if you put the camera on your fingerings rather than on your face. The slow-mo is amusing, but new players need to associate a specific fingering with a specific pitch, as you do in the 2nd part. Also, when you play notes, exaggerate the fingers that are not down by holding them high off the keys, so it makes the fingerings obvious.

  • thanks for the suggestions... yeah i didn't know the slow motion would do that

  • True! That is really hard for people to tell how to play it! Even you because you don't know how to play.

  • Excellent, that helped a bundle , and I was able to decipher the books notation using your instructions. Thank you very much indeed.

  • No problem!! Glad you enjoyed

  • evertime im in band my teacher always tells the whole band to do that scale!

  • yeah most band teachers do

  • thanks so much littlesdchick this is a lot of help, keep it up :)

  • No problem... I'm glad u enjoyed

  • This is VERY good!

Can you make a video on going from an octave to another octave? Or kinda "strategic" wayts of swiching notes? Sorry if this sounds confusing "/

  • Thanks so much. Alright.... well there isn't really a right way to switch octaves, it just takes a lot of practice!!

  • nice video, ive learn much, cute fingering cute teacher..

  • THanks!!

  • You know, you could have just played it slowly ;) you didn't have to slow down the video

  • I know, I just wanted to play around with effects lol

  • Ha Ha, of course, life is full of interesting things.

  • haha

  • Is the clairnet hard to play?

  • Not really... but when you first start it is

  • Nice! ^^

  • Thanks so much!

  • i meant like chromatic lol sorry

  • Yeah, I can play chromatic scales.

  • do u do harmonic scales

  • I have heard of that before, but I don't remember what it is. What is it? Like with someone else?
