the rcc says that evolution is in line with Christianity and catholics can believe in it. This is CONTRARY to the Bible. the rcc says mary was sinless. this is CONTRARY to the Bible. the rcc says confess your sins to a priest. this is CONTRARY to the Bible. the rcc says mary can save you. this is CONTRARY to the Bible. the rcc says peter was "the rock". this is CONTRARY to the Bible. The rcc murdered MILLIONS of Christians. This is CONTRARY to the Bible.
In 2001, while he was a cardinal, the pope issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety. The document recommended that rather than reporting sexual abuse to the relevant legal authorities, bishops should encourage the victim, witnesses and perpetrator not to talk about it. And, to keep victims quiet, it threatened that if they repeat the allegations they would be excommunicated.
The Catholic Church, the great whore of Revelation 17. Left naked and never be heard of this woman apostate. Come out, come out of her my people, your pests do not reach you. Better REPENT, you give up the false doctrines of the pope, asking salvation to Christ through his blood. Give their lives to Jesus. Bautizence and be saved.
How dare you to have the common hubris to believe you know what is best for not only the Church you claim to serve or the actions of the Holy Father. Aside from your inane ranting and your less than stellar linguistic acumen, you embarrass all Catholics with your paper thin summations. If you are truly a priest, I would respectfully submit you leave, tend to your blog and keep out of the way of the Catholics in the world who seek true solutions and not rhetoric disguised as advice.
thanks for your reponse! christopher hitchens and richards dawkins are trying to get the pope arrested under international law, but i agree it is extremely unlikely that he will be prosecuted. however, i think attempts like these are necessary to challenge the power of the vatican. sexual abuse should not be dealt as an internal matter, its a crime
@lambofpaul I can not believe that the Vatican issued a statement on the popes behalf saying that they are only required to tell authorities of a case of sexual abuse "if the law requires it"
You should know that the only law that servants of God follow is the law of God. If you don't understand this, you should seriously consider stepping down from your role, if in fact you are not a troll atheist account masquerading as a Catholic Father. I will pray for your redemption, sinner.
@theLordIovesusaII The main problem here is that the roman catholic "church" is the only organization that has offered peverts of every stripe and pedophiles in particular a career, protection and access to children. Over time this has led to more and more perverts being attracted to the Church.
fathernathan, what are your views on the possibility of arresting the pope under international law for his coverup of this scandal? i contend that this would be the best thing for the catholic church in the long run because the vatican seems to believe they are above criminal law. why should the catholic church be able to decide their own fate? child sexual abuse is still a crime no matter how much praying for healing one can do.
@lambofpaul I think it would be nearly impossible to arrest and try the pope under international law for something like this. Those types of conditions under the UN exist for arresting and removing from power individuals like Hitler. However, I do wish that something could be done. I do wish that the pope would stop hiding and also hiding others and I wish he would demand and live by full disclosure.
Really. The Holy Father should be above these issues. I am an ordnary Catholic and also unAmerican (you call us aliens). Let's get this straight. This is an all out attack on our Catholic church. You are getting attacked. Why? Becuase you live in the United States. They hate Catholics there. I personally think the Catholic Church and Catholics should get away from the US. I would definitely not go there, as I would be subjected to persecution also.
@SugarTomAppleRoger The United States does not hate Catholics or people from other countries. I have a number of people at my congregation who are not American born citizens and are treated with respect.
@FatherNathan I have never felt so bad. The Pope is now being forced to apologise. Why? Just because the abc News Organisation in the USA has gone after us. I am a Catholic, and have never abused children.
Excuse me. But this is a whole bunch of crap. As far as I am concerned, the American news media people can go jump. I hate them. They have made me lose face. I think you should get out of that evil place, Father.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You are one of those blind followers who would rather put your head in the sand than face the truth about the endemic pedophilia (child sex abuse) that is happening worldwide in America, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Italy, Nederlands (Holland) , Malta, France etc...What more evidence do you need before you can believe? It is a good thing FatherNathan is not blind like you; otherwise more children suffer.
@opsvideo2008 I object to your line. The Salvation Army is coming under attack for this "child abuse" stuff. It seems strange that these news organisations, especially abc news are attacking the good and generous, like Catholics and the Salvation Army. abc news employees are sick as. You can see the evil in their fake surgically augmented faces. Americans! Need I say more.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, The pedophilic crimes by guilty catholic priests are already reported all over the world by established news media such as Reuters, AP, AFP, BBC etc, and you are still ranting about ABC news attacking the good and the generous? And do you have anything good to say in defence of the catholic hierarchy who deliberately covered-up these crimes? It seems you no longer can think for yourself.
@opsvideo2008 "paedophillic crimes". What next? this is the sort of scaremongering tactics designed to crush your enemies and take the heat off the real issues that concern people. The Soviets used to attempt this with priests labelling those that stood out against the system as "paedophiles". OK. I got a couple of biffs of the cane from a few priests. It hasn't "ruined my life". Then again, I am not precious like Americans.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, Are you saying pedophilia, the rape and sodomy of young children is not a crime? What if one of those guilty priests were to get hold of you or your children or your young sibling, and put his penis into your private parts? And continue to do so for a few years ? You are truly an idiot in denial when you compared these crimes with a couple of biffs of the cane. Like I said earlier, you no longer can think for yourself.
@opsvideo2008 You are incorrect to bring up this sort of filth on youtube. Please keep these conversions seemly. You are talking to Catholic people here, who do not use, shall we say, Americanisms. We are talking about child abuse. You and I disagree as to what it is. Again, the who motivation for you and other Americans is to persecute Catholics.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You are a very sick and selfish person who worry only about the stained reputation of your catholic church but have no sympathy & empathy for the victims who are little children. What you considered as filth was what actually happened to them. The only cure for your apathy is for you to take some time to imagine how you would personally feel when a perverted priest sticks his penis into your anus.
My friend, we all need to be discerning of biblical principles. As we begin to adopt more false practices we follow an unknown God. I was raised Catholic and have since left to study what God's word really says. I believe the Catholic suffers fro a lack of biblical adherence, for instance " And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." (Mat 23:9)
@victorious592 I as a Catholic treat the Bible as a guidline. It was written about 2000 years ago and things have changed somewhat now. The Bible is written by Scribes. It is not treated by Catholics as the Word of God, like the Koran is by Muslims.
@SugarTomAppleRoger I know. It's sad. In order to have God's best we must have His word. Neither He or it ever changes. For if it did, we would have nothing. The men abusing children are not followers of God...they are worldy men who walk after their own ways. If God's word were truly alive in them...they would repent.
@victorious592 I agree with you. There are two things here. Not one is perfect and we are all "worldly men" sometimes and follow God at other times. The second point is that many individuals have human weaknesses. To isolate out members of the Catholic community in order blame only them is wrong. The main objective of some people is to attack Catholics. They have no interest in paedophilia, only that it is a handy and effective weapon.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You need to read your bible more often than you go to your catholic church for masses, because your ignorance of what the bible teaches, is very telling. The bible tells us in 2nd Timothy 3:16..."All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete....."
@opsvideo2008 I have read the Bible. If you read what you have just quoted here from Timothy, it is inspired by God, but written by man. Muslims claims that the Koran is God's actual wording as written by Mohammed.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, The bible is the word of God written by holy men who have been inspired by the Holy Spirit. You mentioned earlier you treat the bible only as a guideline because things have changed now. However, the bible tells us Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8) and whoever takes any word from the bible, God will take away his part from the Book of Life (Revelation 22:19).
@opsvideo2008 The Bible is not the word of God. It has been revised many times. For example, battles which the Jews are said to have lost in earlier editions are changed to make the Jews victors. There are many so called Scribes, who write pretty much whatever they like. Earlier versions wrere found in the Dead Seas Scrolls. These versions are at odds with current versions.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, If the bible to you is not the word of God, then the first thing you should do is to stop calling yourself a christian because true christians worldwide really believe the bible is literally the word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. The day you become a world famous certified bible scholar is the day I may pay serious attention to your fantastic allegations. Otherwise, your personal opinion is just that, an opinion.
@opsvideo2008 I have never called myself a Christian. I am a Catholic. Most of the most rabid anti-Catholics who are fronted by organisations such as the American Ku Klux Klan call themselves Christians. Of course my opinion is just than - an opinion.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You may not call yourself a christian but just ask any other catholics if they call themselves christian, and a big majority will say yes, even when they put the traditions and teachings of men above the teachings of the bible. But you are right in saying you are not a christian because you are not when you don't put the word of God above all else. By the way, to me, the KKK are also not christians.
@opsvideo2008 You are incorrect. Every Catholics I have known has called themselves Catholics. The people who call themselves Christians are normally Americans who have a fundamentalist, right wing and Catholic baiting agenda. Our greatest ever Catholic, John Fitzgerald Kennedy never called himself a Christian but was always proud of his Catholic faith. The KKK go further than calling themselves Christians. They say they are the defenders of Christianity.
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You can only speak for yourself with regards your experience. The reality today is that many serious catholics consider themselves to be "true christians" You just need to see youtube videos of Michael Voris who on his tv catholic program said "Not only are catholics christians, but the true catholic church is the original, authentic faith." And Vic Scaravilli, the catholic apologist, also said the same.
@SugarTomAppleRoger In 2001, while he was a cardinal, the pope issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety. The document recommended that rather than reporting sexual abuse to the relevant legal authorities, bishops should encourage the victim, witnesses and perpetrator not to talk about it. And, to keep victims quiet, it threatened that if they repeat the allegations they would be excommunicated.
@kiwichristian2009 It is a difficult decision. I cannot see any benefit to thevictim or anyone else of going to the authorities. As for being excommunicated for repeating the allegation, that seems very strange. I just hope the Church has sorted out this problem. Personally, I don't understand men who want to have fantasies towards children. I think that paedophilia has all sorts of degrees of seriousness also.
In North America people are opening up and sharing of abuse by priests. But how come we don't hear of any such things in third world countries? Is it that this does not happen there.....or is it that people are frightened to share? What about buddhist and hindu priests abusing? Is that acceptable? (it is not acceptable to me or to any reasonable person). Need people to come out and break open the door in other countries. Need someone with guts to start the process.
Why shouldn't Catholics share in the guilt if they don't divorce themselves from an institution whose officials either practice clerical peodphilia themselves or PROTECT thos who do?
Google "JesusWouldBeFurious" (one word) to see how little Catholicism has to do with Christ's teaching and example.
I am a devout Catholic, but are you suggesting that I abandon my faith because of something that we are not personally responsible for? If the smoke of evil has entered our holy institution, the best we can do is pray for these particular officials and hope that this will never ever happen in the future.
In response to your question, "are you suggesting that I abandon my faith because of something that we are not personally responsible for?" what "faith" are you talking about? If you mean your belief in Jesus or God, then my response is "NO". What I am talking about is the "I am a devout Catholic" part of your post. So long as you lend your support to "the Roman Catholic institution", then you share in what it is producing: dishonesty, protection of pedophiles, not kids.i
In reply to your last statement, I completely see what you mean and respect your view as I hope you do mine but as you can see, it is not that easy. When I go to Church on Sundays, I am not going because of "the Roman Catholic Institution"...I go simply for Jesus Christ. Being a Catholic entails having "faith" in Christ and does not imply having faith in these particular individuals.
@cherryblossom013579, I understand what you are saying but not the excuse you give. The Catholic Church does not represent Jesus because it puts the unbiblical and false teachings and traditions of men above the word of God for e.g. enforced celibacy. If you love Jesus, just attend any church which preaches the word of God based on the bible, and Jesus and God will meet you there. Read your bible & find the truth yourself.
I'm a product of 24 YEARS of R.C. education, culminating in ordination to the priesthood, with graduate degrees in Catholic philosophy & theology and a teaching position in a seminary. If people like ME can see the light and leave, YOU can too.
Google "JesusWouldBeFurious" (one word) to see how little Catholicism has to do with Christ's teaching and example.
the news that a priest molested several hundred deaf boy's is sickening.the real problem for Pope Benedict is that he is the Man who knew too Much .Worse than this he did nothing about these allegations other than to worry about how such scandals might hurt the Church. These Scandals are getting bigger. They may very well ensnare the Pope .
brave move father- while im not a catholic or very religious to be honest ive always admired the good who attempt to do gods work and i appreciate your openness- i personally want the pope and most vatican heads to resign- even to this day the church continues to hide the truth and act above their own credos and moral laws! This is what happens when power structures grow to large! The good work is always done simply by simple men with good hearts and there is no need fot the churchs heirachy!
ugh... people are so confused! fucking judeo christianity (LITERALLY) has made the world perverted, insecure, and totally confused. everyone go back to being pagan, loving nature, being natural, and EMBRACING LIFE AND HEALTH AND BEAUTY NOT THIS PARANOID PERVERTED JESUS SHIT! EVERYONE WAKE THE HELL UP!
I totally agree with you.The sad thing is that it is being repeated in Ireland a year later. The Church did not co-operate with the government inquiry into abuse in Dublin.I have just seen the Popes letter to the Irish people and its a joke.I believe in forgiveness but some of the people who were responsible for covering up this evil are still in office and that is unforgivable.
Can you explain why celibacy is given as one of the reasons for paedophilia within the Catholic church? That seems to suggest that anyone (religious or not) who decides on a life of celibacy are potential paedophiles.
As a former priest, who took the "vow" of celibacy, let me answer your question.
There's nothing wrong with celibacy for those who CHOOSE IT, any more than there's anything wrong with people choosing to shave their heads or anything else optional.
The problem arises from FORCING men who don't care for it to accept celibacy as the price for ordination, when the two don't NEED to go together.
@Rayosun, You have hit the nail on the head on this issue. Not everyone can practice celibacy as it is a gift from God, not something that anyone can be forced into. In fact, the bible says in 1st Timothy 4:1-3 that the doctrine of "forbidding others to marry" is actually a doctrine of the devil.
Face up to it. Catholicicsm is a cult, a degrading and degraded cult. So you've been called names have you? Dont tell me you're surprised. From every corner of the world there are stories of abuse by you "men of God". I came across the Christian brothers in Australia, I was sent there aged 15 in 1963, a more sadistic unholy bunch of perverts would be hard to imagine, I'd have been shown more compassion by the mafia. If theres a hell your membership of this organisation has condemned you to it.
ur the stupidest person dat ever lived mate, dis preist is a man of action, REAL man of god, dat is saying himself dat der needs to be more done to adress dis scandal in the church, don't be so silly u stupid fuk, uur probably a a pedo
Brother Nathan, I commend you for being one of the rational catholics who can see this scandal in the right perspective, and I mostly agree with your comments. As long as no adequately just measures are taken to redress the child sexual abuse crimes committed by guilty catholic priests, the catholic church will always be viewed by the public in the negative manner you described, and sadly I would add, rightly so.
most scandals are fake because of an act of revenge because maybe the priest was a little strict Also we have people who hate the catholic church so they will caus atleast small issue maybe not small but big. There are some small issues here in the vactian (I am a truly devote catholic but i can see some issues) for example the whole nun investigation thing. Most people turn away from the catholic church because of priests that are mean but tell them you go to church for the faith not the priest
There are many people today that serve Jesus and there are many who have been deceived. Jesus lives in the mystical body of his church and is suffering much in this body. We must pray for our brothers and sisters who live in sin. To make the scandal worse with videos puts salt in the wounds of Jesus who is already suffering much over what Satan had done to his church. The church is not our enemy, Satan and the demonic is. Pray and fast for souls and help Jesus. Don't add to his suffering!!!
Brother Nathan, I do applaud you that you at least are honourable. But the wickedness is so deep that the only response for any real Christians is to respond to the Lord's cry, "Come out of her, my people"
The Catholic Church, the Vatican is going to be punished, and the punishment is just. There is no hope for this institution - read Revealation.
I am one of the Pindown survivors and I pray for you, brother.
ok i'm going to go get laid but i'll be back later to talk to you more about this.. you really need to lighten up and let people have their beliefs and stop being a nazi about it.. damn it dude stop it..
this is wrong.. attacking the pope when you aren't even roman catholic.. in fact your religion broke away from the holy see in the 1800s.. so in fact this is like a jewish rabbi attacking the pope or a buddhist monk attacking the southern baptist council.. nice.. address errors in your own religion and leave the pope worshipers alone
I'm not attacking anyone. Furthermore, our jurisdiction did not break away we have continued forward in spite of the doctrinal errors of papal infallibility and supremacy. And I'm aloud to comment on anyone I so please and it just happens that this individual helped hide pedophiles and that is a far deeper social issues for which the bishop of rome should be held accountable for.
actually Benedict didn't help hide pedos, that crap didnt happen on his watch. I hate benedict but he didnt hide pedos. For you to say that one church has errors is intolerant let other religions believe as they wish & focus on your own alvation."you have a log in your eye" dont talk about your brother's splinter.I personally think anyone that worships zombies is freakn crazy but thats your right. if catholics want to believe certain things about the pope then who gives a shit worry bout yourself
You are most certainly wrong. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (now Benedict XVI) was the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith who was in charge of handling the pedophile situation within the Roman Church and so he did hide pedophiles and was the one who called many of them to find sanctuary in Rome. Furthermore, I am not a differently religion since I am in fact Catholic. I am making critiques about the Church that I love very much.
Not to mention I find it really hysterical for you to say that I need to worry about myself and my own religion when all you've done for days is left comments on my YouTube videos about how I practice my religion, what I have to say about pretty much any subject and you tell me to worry about myself but you don't even follow your own advice!
you are not roman catholic any more than you are eastern orth.. your sec is separate.. you are not in full communion with the holy see that is a fact.. talk about your sec not about what the idol worshipers in rome
Rome has never said we are not in communion and furthermore the pope has validated Old Catholicism numerous times. But you are neither Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Old Catholic or the like... so why don't you just talk about whatever you are.
You obviously know nothing about the structure of the Church. Ratzinger should have never been made pope and he was the one who advised then Pope John Paul II on the pedophile issue and JPII took the advice of his council (Ratzinger) and so it has been Ratzinger this whole time who has been covering up the pedophile situation.
"Ratzinger should have never been made pope".. hahaha i agree with that on a personal level but since it is in God's hands and God doesn't make mistakes i'm not gonna second guess God. that statement is more proof you are NOT part of the Roman Catholic faith..
@FatherNathan, I commend you this time for your complete honesty of your comments on the advice given by current pope to JPII. Most catholics when confronted with fact, as reported by BBC video, would go into complete denial, even if they know it was true, but not you. You are on the side of truth and are not too concerned about the reputation of the church, which incidentally was the original cause of this scandal.
All this ruckus about the Pope & sexual abuse in the Church upsets me. We must be understanding. Remember, the Pope is a pious man. When these things occurred & he was informed, he probably didn't truly comprehend. After all, he is not a man of the flesh. How is he supposed to understand the nuances of pedophile sex if he doesn't even know much about normal sex between husband & wife? He probably just couldn't grasp the concept, & thats why he took no action
@theLordIovesusaII I know exactly what I am saying and the pope needs to come clean, address the issue, start firing people and actually look out for the care of the children instead of the concern on the reputation of pedophiles.
@theLordIovesusaII, Do you think by misquoting the context of this bible verse, you can excuse all the criminal priests who sodomise, rape and physically abuse the little helpless children ? You have a twisted sense of logic, you care for your catholic priest criminals but have no compassion at all for the little victims. The only possible exception is when your own children are the victims. Only then will you scream murder.
@theLordIovesusaII, The excuses you make for your pope is laughable and hilarious. You are defending him like he is a child who knows nothing about sex or pedophilia. If he is today really a child below 10 years of age, I would support. But because he is not, and is probably decades older than you, you are really a pathetic fool who doesn't know what he is talking about. Go read more of the online newspaper report to educate yourself.
@theLordIovesusaII, Nowhere in the bible does it teaches that the pope is God's representative on earth. It is a man-made teaching just as the existence of purgatory, asking for forgiveness from priests are all catholic man-made concoctions. You are believing in falsehood, denial and even now, your very own soul is in danger of eternal damnation because you rather cling to men's teachings instead of Christ, the Saviour.
@opsvideo2008 You had better look at your Bible a little closer. It doesn't sound like you've even read it! I'll pray for your redemption, while you're on the path to the Lake of Fire....
@theLordIovesusaII, Which part of the bible do you question my knowledge of the bible? If you think I am wrong, then show me the bible passage which tells us (1) we must a God's representative on earth, (2) the existence of purgatory, (3) the perpetual virginity of Mary (4) the need to call a person a "father" (5) the need to ask forgiveness of sins from a priest instead of directly from God (6) that it is OK to pray to idols....that is if you can.
At this point I question your seriousness. I think you're just a troll pretending to be a Christian, & having some fun trying to make your Christian character look dumb, in order to smear all Christians. But you made the mistake of overkill. No one is as dumb as you portray.
@theLordIovesusaII, In short, what you are trying to say is that you are simply unable to substantiate from the bible, the 6 points of false catholic teaching which I challenged you to. So it's not surprising the next best thing you can do is to change the subject and attack the person who brought you the awful truth that your catholic church is propagating false teachings, contrary to that the bible teaches.
@GOPHATESAMERICA , If you want to know exactly what FatherNathan is talking about regarding the Vatican hiding pedos, then you only need to search the BBC Panorama video entitled "Sex Crimes and Vatican Part 1 of 4 " on youtube and watch it. All the evidence, including the testimonies of witnesses are there. Then ask yourself if you still think FatherNathan is talking out of his hat.
i have'nt posted anything in here in over 7 months (until now).. do y'all have nothing better to do than reply to stuff over people posted half a year ago? those discussions are over and done with. move on
sorry i didnt notice the date you posted- i thought this video was recent but it still doesnt excuse the fact that you are so wrong it isnt even funny- the NYtimes has more coming out and this time backed up by a leading bishops and paper trails so well see how this plays out! And the tables are beginning to turn- irish and english flock walking out in record numbers and calling for the popes resignation!
@GOPHATESAMERICA- people are attacking the pope because hes been part of a system that allowed children to be molested and then tried to hide it- i dont care if it was a jewish rabbi tiger woods my dad etc- this is the biggest crime in nature in my view! It should have nothing to with what religion you belong to- a crime is a crime and this si the worst of them!
i have'nt posted anything in here in over 7 months (until now).. do y'all have nothing better to do than reply to stuff over people posted half a year ago? those discussions are over and done with. move on
Why do people STILL `believe` in religion, it is so stupid and the bible is filled with so many contradictions for example: why should we be punished for Adam`s sin when he ate the apple and not us, and does it not say in Duet 24;16 that children should not be punished for the sins of their father. And for justice to exist the punishment must fit the crime, no matter how many crimes are commited there is a limit, yet hell`s punishment is infinate, where is the justice in that?
The fundamental problem Nathan, is celibacy is unnatural. However, the church as you probably are aware has intstituted this twisted notion on their men for financial reasons. Just another example of deviant behavior resulting from an attempt to control people. Sad.
I don't agree with the Catholic Church's policy of forcing celibacy on priests, but most pedophiles aren't pedophiles from a lack of heterosexual sex. They just have a taste for young children.
Father Monk, I know of one episode in which, as Cardinal Ratzinger, the present Pope supported harboring a pedophile priest wanted in America has been harbored in Rome. Clearly this was on his part an effort to protect the Church from suffering further damage.
A young man like you, sir, can serve his congregation and the Christian tradition best by setting an example of marital love and fatherhood. The Church must abandon the hypocrisy of the so-called celibate priesthood. It was never so!
I live in a village just north of Rome. The village priest died last year. At the funeral were his perpetua and his two adult sons by her and their families. The whole village had known about it for decades. Whether his bishop knew I don't know. By the way, he was known by his parishners as a very tough priest.
As far as I can tell, the scandal is more a gay scandal than anything illegal. Now what is it, a "pedophile scandal" or a "sex scandal". These two concepts are very, very different things, and it is odd that you confuse the two.
@ kylemek0: Suffice it to say that I must disagree strongly with you on your point. Have you heard about the connection between the current Pope (Benedict, HA! that's a fine name for her) and a document called "Crimen Solicitationis" (I believe is the correct spelling). Do some research on it, and then tell me if you still hold the same opinion. Thank you.
Fr. Nathan, I agree with you that there should have been more punishment for the horrible priests that did those things. Not only should they have been removed from all parishes or anywhere near children, but most of them should have gone to prison. However, you failed to address one of the largest root causes why it happened in the first place. Over the last 40 years or so, Catholic priests have either failed to preach proper Catholic doctrine on sexual morality or they ignored it altogether!
Fr Nathan represents the decent, caring & sincere work of the church he represents. Unfortunately, his voice is not heard enough in the mainstream media & the church would prefer him not to speak at all. Speaking out can cost you your priesthood, as a priest I know can testify to. Whilst sexual abuse is common in institutions of all types, it is both a problem within the catholic church that is failing to be addressed & a popular hobby horse for a decadent news media.
@rangringadongfor, You are totally mistaken. It is a hobby horse for the world media simply because the catholic top hierachy is engaged in the diabolical practice of DELIBERATE COVER-UP , at the expense of the great torment and suffering of little and helpless child victims. Pedophilia is the most despicable human sexual crime and its cover-up by the catholic church top officials is equally disgusting & criminal.
All men are evil and perveted. All of our righteous deeds are like filthy rags in the presents of the lord.
The fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom, and unless we get Pastors and preists who actually know Who the God from the scripture is and what he hates and who he hates, then none of this will be going on. Yes, There are people that God hates whether you believe it or not, its in scripture.
hello Father, yes indeed we eed to pray, specially for the church, as people who abuse children are so many, but becuse it is the Catholic church, everyone wants to eat it up, this is why we need to pray.
@georgeodeh, Don't you think you should add in your prayers that the Catholic Church hierarchy, that is the bishops, the cardinals and the pope should not cover-up these heinous crimes ? And that the catholic faithful be honest with themselves that these are horrible and detestable crimes against little helpless children and the guilty priests and enablers need be exposed and charged in a criminal court?
A friend of mine who happens to be an Episcopal priest has done some things in the past that should have ended up with him being defrocked and removed from the priesthood. Now it's looking like he might be the next bishop for the local diocese. About two years ago He told me that things were going better for him. He is married and has young children. Some parish members love to point fingers at the RC Church. At times I could just screem!!..."point your fingers here where you stand!"
That is what you must be Father Nathan. You MUST be ELIJAH! Catholosism is about faith with action. Well take action! the catholic community is crying out over their faith in the church like the widow over crying over her son. YOU ELIJAH, must take action to get the catholic authority to heel her son. (not saying the pope is God just making a litterary connection of two situations) You said in one video that we will judge along side God in heaven. Doesn't that mean we should judge along side the
is that not what we basically do in prayer? If someone gets sick is that not God's will? And praying for that person to get better would that not be going against Gods will? Heres an example the bible has about going against Gods will for the better 1 Kings 17:17-21 Elijah brings the widows son back from the dead by praying to God over him. DIDN'T GOD TAKE THE CHILD'S LIFE?! If yes then it was the lords will. then Elijah went against his will. But God didnt ignore Elijah, he answered his prayer.
Father we can tell your motivated to do somthing about this how about you take it up through the ranks. Not as a rebelion but as a demand for the pope to enforce the law of the Church. And not just you but the entire church should be demanding action. I garenty that there are enough conserned catholics that would back you for the good of the church and get the vatican to take notice. I saw one comment that you shouldnt dissagree and make a public statement against the ruling of the church but
On youtube an italian hit about the Pope and his transexual love!Title is IL PAPA INNAMORATO (Pope in Love)...in Vatican, many many guys "in and out,out and in"...:-)
Not saying that u are incorrect, but how does the hierachy in the church feel about your outspoken opinion on youtube, particularly since the Pope is infallible? I have my view as well on those still in spiritual office; however I am not a priest
and what exactly does that have to do with papal infallibility... like i said, it appears you have an amazing LACK of knowledge about what papal infallibility REALLY is
not insulting at all dazey...just stating simple fact!
it took you that long and you STILL couldn't get it right? proving my point once again...that you really had no clue what your faith was when you left it... but then , that only makes sense...anyone who knows their faith would NEVER turn their backs on their Lord by leaving His Church
and once again you have not answered correctly...it has to be only in matters of faith and morals...yes... but there is more to it... and you have proven again you do not know
but at least you got the faith and morals part right
why should i answer you? you were never able to provide me with an answer ... proving that you knew little about your faith
for the record, there is no excuse for those who were guilty of the molestations, and they will ultimately receive justice for what they have done...and there was certainly more to it than what you know (just like our faith), so i'll just leave it at that...
i answered your question... i have no desire to say anything else on the topic... maybe one day you'll actually find out what the conditions for the Holy Father speaking EX CATHEDRA are
Since you who aren't in communion with the church will not offer some sort of defense, I as a layman will. I am not saying what happened in the true accusations should go unpunished. No one is. I am, however, stating both sides of this issue. You should do the same. This is rhetoric and I am appalled. You don't accept what the Pope says when not in your favor but, do if it is. If you do, aren't you then supporting his authority? You can't have it both ways. He had his reason on addressing it.
Rev Nathan, I was wondering if you have a list of these officers of the church who are involved in this "coverup?" I'm sure if you did it would be all over the news. The media would all be parked at your door wanting interviews and wanting copies of it! The reason they are not is because there is no list. You are stating a talking point from the media. You fail to mention all of the accusations against priests that were found to be false. You failed to menton the money that was paid out.
I can not believe it! arghjesse commented about "regular sex" offenders! I wasn't aware there were different classes. No sex offender is any better than any other. This issue just attacks Catholic Priests. This is going on through all sects of society. Compared to sex offenders as a whole these priests were a small amount. This atrosity is going on throughout the protestant community as well. It happens throughout all authorative vocations where people were trusted and held to a high standard.
Rev Nathan, this was a decision made by the Pope of how he addressed this. Justin Martyr died because he wouldn't give into persecution on the Church. If you wear the collar of a Roman Catholic then you should be willing to accept the consequences. Your arguments come from someone who is not even in communion with the Catholic Church. You should state this beforehand. A Roman Catholic wouldn't contradict the Pope. By the ommision of this small detail left out you are misrepresenting the Church.
A child's voice is only as powerful as those who are powerful enough to act for them. Demand accountability from molestors and those who protect molestors. Mahony's diocese transferred pedophiles from one parish to another. It is deplorable that he is promoted to archbishop of Los Angeles and was one of the cardinal electors in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI. Such disgrace!
You people are strange. You don't think clergy who touch children should go to jail? What about regular sex offender do you just want them to go to church and get to go home at night? The inquisition would have tortured and killed these guys (providing they weren't powerful) I would not be against chemical castration. These aren't members of the folk who strayed. These were people (often gay) who joined the church to have contact with defenseless children.
BUT, at the same time, i agree. While not being sent to jail, the Priests/Bishops/Cardinals in questions SHOULD be actively removed from office and perish. What they did was wrong, and they have a debt to pay for it. The Pope needs to remove them, and make strong reperations for the victims. As Catholics, we need to embrace the victims and help them! I feel so sorry for them.
The priests need to leave their office, and seek help as a Saint has done a time or two.
I tend to agree with you, but I have to say one thing:
Why kick those Priests and Bishops out of the Church and send them to jail? HOW IS THAT GOING TO HELP THEM? What they need is God! They need to get rid of the evil spirits within them!
I must say that I totally agree with them covering it up! LOOK WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY RELEASED IT?! It would have been better to just take the Priests and deal with it! They don't need jail, they need God, Exorcism maybe even!
Regardless of the erroneous doctrines within the Catholic Church, people should not label every Catholic priest as a pedophile over the actions of a hand full.
thanks for that concession zach... though you will find NO erroneous doctrines within the Catholic Church ... if there were , the gates of hell would have prevailed and our Lord would have lied... we KNOW that could not be a possibility so what other conclusion could we arrive at?
What a relief it is to hear a priest speak about this scandal & be outraged at the lack of action. Some of the solutions I've seen in some parishes are appalling. Instead of bringing in counselours to help families cope, they are bringing in canon lawyers who are scolding parishoners for not following Church teachings to the letter. It feels almost like the Counter-Reformation. When they are accused, they end up pointing fingers.
Fr.Nathan- There will always be haters of the RCC. Look at the KKK during the 1890's-1950's, blacks were not the only ones harmed.
The pedophilia scandel was a feast for the anti-RCC. Of course it was a horrible thing. But is the RCC the only Church affected by it? No. It is statistically equal among all religions. It is even more rampant in public schools. AND it continues in the public schools. School boards don't apologize & principals keep quiet and transfer the peds to other schools...
But just because public schools and other religions have the same problem doesn't justify the Roman Church from covering up the issue. The Roman Church should attempt to be above reproach on t
No 1 have the right to judge; only God alone, all we do is pray 4 them priest...

And, to keep victims quiet, it threatened that if they repeat the allegations they would be excommunicated.
kiwichristian2009 10 months ago

If you are truly a priest, I would respectfully submit you leave, tend to your blog and keep out of the way of the Catholics in the world who seek true solutions and not rhetoric disguised as advice.

thanks for your reponse! christopher hitchens and richards dawkins are trying to get the pope arrested under international law, but i agree it is extremely unlikely that he will be prosecuted. however, i think attempts like these are necessary to challenge the power of the vatican. sexual abuse should not be dealt as an internal matter, its a crime
lambofpaul 1 year ago
@lambofpaul I can not believe that the Vatican issued a statement on the popes behalf saying that they are only required to tell authorities of a case of sexual abuse "if the law requires it"

You should know that the only law that servants of God follow is the law of God. If you don't understand this, you should seriously consider stepping down from your role, if in fact you are not a troll atheist account masquerading as a Catholic Father. I will pray for your redemption, sinner.
theLordIovesusaII 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII The main problem here is that the roman catholic "church" is the only organization that has offered peverts of every stripe and pedophiles in particular a career, protection and access to children. Over time this has led to more and more perverts being attracted to the Church.
kiwichristian2009 10 months ago
fathernathan, what are your views on the possibility of arresting the pope under international law for his coverup of this scandal? i contend that this would be the best thing for the catholic church in the long run because the vatican seems to believe they are above criminal law. why should the catholic church be able to decide their own fate? child sexual abuse is still a crime no matter how much praying for healing one can do.
lambofpaul 1 year ago
@lambofpaul I think it would be nearly impossible to arrest and try the pope under international law for something like this. Those types of conditions under the UN exist for arresting and removing from power individuals like Hitler. However, I do wish that something could be done. I do wish that the pope would stop hiding and also hiding others and I wish he would demand and live by full disclosure.
FatherNathan 1 year ago
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger The United States does not hate Catholics or people from other countries. I have a number of people at my congregation who are not American born citizens and are treated with respect.
FatherNathan 1 year ago
@FatherNathan I have never felt so bad. The Pope is now being forced to apologise. Why? Just because the abc News Organisation in the USA has gone after us. I am a Catholic, and have never abused children.
Excuse me. But this is a whole bunch of crap. As far as I am concerned, the American news media people can go jump. I hate them. They have made me lose face. I think you should get out of that evil place, Father.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You are one of those blind followers who would rather put your head in the sand than face the truth about the endemic pedophilia (child sex abuse) that is happening worldwide in America, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Italy, Nederlands (Holland) , Malta, France etc...What more evidence do you need before you can believe? It is a good thing FatherNathan is not blind like you; otherwise more children suffer.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 I object to your line. The Salvation Army is coming under attack for this "child abuse" stuff. It seems strange that these news organisations, especially abc news are attacking the good and generous, like Catholics and the Salvation Army. abc news employees are sick as. You can see the evil in their fake surgically augmented faces. Americans! Need I say more.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, The pedophilic crimes by guilty catholic priests are already reported all over the world by established news media such as Reuters, AP, AFP, BBC etc, and you are still ranting about ABC news attacking the good and the generous? And do you have anything good to say in defence of the catholic hierarchy who deliberately covered-up these crimes? It seems you no longer can think for yourself.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 "paedophillic crimes". What next? this is the sort of scaremongering tactics designed to crush your enemies and take the heat off the real issues that concern people. The Soviets used to attempt this with priests labelling those that stood out against the system as "paedophiles". OK. I got a couple of biffs of the cane from a few priests. It hasn't "ruined my life". Then again, I am not precious like Americans.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, Are you saying pedophilia, the rape and sodomy of young children is not a crime? What if one of those guilty priests were to get hold of you or your children or your young sibling, and put his penis into your private parts? And continue to do so for a few years ? You are truly an idiot in denial when you compared these crimes with a couple of biffs of the cane. Like I said earlier, you no longer can think for yourself.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 You are incorrect to bring up this sort of filth on youtube. Please keep these conversions seemly. You are talking to Catholic people here, who do not use, shall we say, Americanisms. We are talking about child abuse. You and I disagree as to what it is. Again, the who motivation for you and other Americans is to persecute Catholics.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You are a very sick and selfish person who worry only about the stained reputation of your catholic church but have no sympathy & empathy for the victims who are little children. What you considered as filth was what actually happened to them. The only cure for your apathy is for you to take some time to imagine how you would personally feel when a perverted priest sticks his penis into your anus.

@SugarTomAppleRoger
My friend, we all need to be discerning of biblical principles. As we begin to adopt more false practices we follow an unknown God. I was raised Catholic and have since left to study what God's word really says. I believe the Catholic suffers fro a lack of biblical adherence, for instance " And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." (Mat 23:9)
victorious592 1 year ago
@victorious592 I as a Catholic treat the Bible as a guidline. It was written about 2000 years ago and things have changed somewhat now. The Bible is written by Scribes. It is not treated by Catholics as the Word of God, like the Koran is by Muslims.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger I know. It's sad. In order to have God's best we must have His word. Neither He or it ever changes. For if it did, we would have nothing. The men abusing children are not followers of God...they are worldy men who walk after their own ways. If God's word were truly alive in them...they would repent.
victorious592 1 year ago
@victorious592 I agree with you. There are two things here. Not one is perfect and we are all "worldly men" sometimes and follow God at other times. The second point is that many individuals have human weaknesses. To isolate out members of the Catholic community in order blame only them is wrong. The main objective of some people is to attack Catholics. They have no interest in paedophilia, only that it is a handy and effective weapon.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You need to read your bible more often than you go to your catholic church for masses, because your ignorance of what the bible teaches, is very telling. The bible tells us in 2nd Timothy 3:16..."All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete....."
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 I have read the Bible. If you read what you have just quoted here from Timothy, it is inspired by God, but written by man. Muslims claims that the Koran is God's actual wording as written by Mohammed.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, The bible is the word of God written by holy men who have been inspired by the Holy Spirit. You mentioned earlier you treat the bible only as a guideline because things have changed now. However, the bible tells us Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8) and whoever takes any word from the bible, God will take away his part from the Book of Life (Revelation 22:19).
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 The Bible is not the word of God. It has been revised many times. For example, battles which the Jews are said to have lost in earlier editions are changed to make the Jews victors. There are many so called Scribes, who write pretty much whatever they like. Earlier versions wrere found in the Dead Seas Scrolls. These versions are at odds with current versions.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, If the bible to you is not the word of God, then the first thing you should do is to stop calling yourself a christian because true christians worldwide really believe the bible is literally the word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. The day you become a world famous certified bible scholar is the day I may pay serious attention to your fantastic allegations. Otherwise, your personal opinion is just that, an opinion.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 I have never called myself a Christian. I am a Catholic. Most of the most rabid anti-Catholics who are fronted by organisations such as the American Ku Klux Klan call themselves Christians. Of course my opinion is just than - an opinion.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You may not call yourself a christian but just ask any other catholics if they call themselves christian, and a big majority will say yes, even when they put the traditions and teachings of men above the teachings of the bible. But you are right in saying you are not a christian because you are not when you don't put the word of God above all else. By the way, to me, the KKK are also not christians.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 You are incorrect. Every Catholics I have known has called themselves Catholics. The people who call themselves Christians are normally Americans who have a fundamentalist, right wing and Catholic baiting agenda. Our greatest ever Catholic, John Fitzgerald Kennedy never called himself a Christian but was always proud of his Catholic faith. The KKK go further than calling themselves Christians. They say they are the defenders of Christianity.
SugarTomAppleRoger 1 year ago
@SugarTomAppleRoger, You can only speak for yourself with regards your experience. The reality today is that many serious catholics consider themselves to be "true christians" You just need to see youtube videos of Michael Voris who on his tv catholic program said "Not only are catholics christians, but the true catholic church is the original, authentic faith." And Vic Scaravilli, the catholic apologist, also said the same.

@Rayosun Hello,
I am a devout Catholic, but are you suggesting that I abandon my faith because of something that we are not personally responsible for? If the smoke of evil has entered our holy institution, the best we can do is pray for these particular officials and hope that this will never ever happen in the future.

@cherryblossom013579
In response to your question, "are you suggesting that I abandon my faith because of something that we are not personally responsible for?" what "faith" are you talking about? If you mean your belief in Jesus or God, then my response is "NO". What I am talking about is the "I am a devout Catholic" part of your post. So long as you lend your support to "the Roman Catholic institution", then you share in what it is producing: dishonesty, protection of pedophiles, not kids.i
Rayosun 1 year ago
@Rayosun Hello,
In reply to your last statement, I completely see what you mean and respect your view as I hope you do mine but as you can see, it is not that easy. When I go to Church on Sundays, I am not going because of "the Roman Catholic Institution"...I go simply for Jesus Christ. Being a Catholic entails having "faith" in Christ and does not imply having faith in these particular individuals.
God bless. =)
cherryblossom013579 1 year ago
@cherryblossom013579, I understand what you are saying but not the excuse you give. The Catholic Church does not represent Jesus because it puts the unbiblical and false teachings and traditions of men above the word of God for e.g. enforced celibacy. If you love Jesus, just attend any church which preaches the word of God based on the bible, and Jesus and God will meet you there. Read your bible & find the truth yourself.

Can you explain why celibacy is given as one of the reasons for paedophilia within the Catholic church? That seems to suggest that anyone (religious or not) who decides on a life of celibacy are potential paedophiles.
sail1948 1 year ago
@sail1948,
As a former priest, who took the "vow" of celibacy, let me answer your question.
There's nothing wrong with celibacy for those who CHOOSE IT, any more than there's anything wrong with people choosing to shave their heads or anything else optional.
The problem arises from FORCING men who don't care for it to accept celibacy as the price for ordination, when the two don't NEED to go together.
Rayosun 1 year ago
@Rayosun, You have hit the nail on the head on this issue. Not everyone can practice celibacy as it is a gift from God, not something that anyone can be forced into. In fact, the bible says in 1st Timothy 4:1-3 that the doctrine of "forbidding others to marry" is actually a doctrine of the devil.

I'm not attacking anyone. Furthermore, our jurisdiction did not break away we have continued forward in spite of the doctrinal errors of papal infallibility and supremacy. I am making critiques about the Church that I love very much.

you are not roman catholic any more than you are eastern orth.. your sec is separate.. you are not in full communion with the holy see that is a fact.. talk about your sec not about what the idol worshipers in rome
GOPHATESAMERICA 2 years ago
Rome has never said we are not in communion and furthermore the pope has validated Old Catholicism numerous times. But you are neither Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Old Catholic or the like... so why don't you just talk about whatever you are.
FatherNathan 2 years ago
exactly he was not the Pope.. he was a cardinal.. since that time he has been, shall we say promoted..
GOPHATESAMERICA 2 years ago
You obviously know nothing about the structure of the Church. Ratzinger should have never been made pope and he was the one who advised then Pope John Paul II on the pedophile issue and JPII took the advice of his council (Ratzinger) and so it has been Ratzinger this whole time who has been covering up the pedophile situation.
FatherNathan 2 years ago
"Ratzinger should have never been made pope".. hahaha i agree with that on a personal level but since it is in God's hands and God doesn't make mistakes i'm not gonna second guess God. that statement is more proof you are NOT part of the Roman Catholic faith..
GOPHATESAMERICA 2 years ago
hw can u say ur a fan of this guy, and acknowledge that he hid paedophiles?
CocoMac877 2 years ago
@FatherNathan, I commend you this time for your complete honesty of your comments on the advice given by current pope to JPII. Most catholics when confronted with fact, as reported by BBC video, would go into complete denial, even if they know it was true, but not you. You are on the side of truth and are not too concerned about the reputation of the church, which incidentally was the original cause of this scandal.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
All this ruckus about the Pope & sexual abuse in the Church upsets me. We must be understanding. Remember, the Pope is a pious man. When these things occurred & he was informed, he probably didn't truly comprehend. After all, he is not a man of the flesh. How is he supposed to understand the nuances of pedophile sex if he doesn't even know much about normal sex between husband & wife? He probably just couldn't grasp the concept, & thats why he took no action
theLordIovesusaII 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII If he is that ignorant then he shouldn't have been placed in charge of the society that oversees those very issues.

Only then will you scream murder.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII, The excuses you make for your pope is laughable and hilarious. You are defending him like he is a child who knows nothing about sex or pedophilia. If he is today really a child below 10 years of age, I would support. But because he is not, and is probably decades older than you, you are really a pathetic fool who doesn't know what he is talking about. Go read more of the online newspaper report to educate yourself.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008
The Pope is nothing less than God's representative on earth. Your incessant attacks are a sign of the Devil's influence. Cleanse yourself.
theLordIovesusaII 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII, Nowhere in the bible does it teaches that the pope is God's representative on earth. It is a man-made teaching just as the existence of purgatory, asking for forgiveness from priests are all catholic man-made concoctions. You are believing in falsehood, denial and even now, your very own soul is in danger of eternal damnation because you rather cling to men's teachings instead of Christ, the Saviour.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008 You had better look at your Bible a little closer. It doesn't sound like you've even read it! I'll pray for your redemption, while you're on the path to the Lake of Fire....
theLordIovesusaII 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII, Which part of the bible do you question my knowledge of the bible? If you think I am wrong, then show me the bible passage which tells us (1) we must a God's representative on earth, (2) the existence of purgatory, (3) the perpetual virginity of Mary (4) the need to call a person a "father" (5) the need to ask forgiveness of sins from a priest instead of directly from God (6) that it is OK to pray to idols....that is if you can.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@opsvideo2008
At this point I question your seriousness. I think you're just a troll pretending to be a Christian, & having some fun trying to make your Christian character look dumb, in order to smear all Christians. But you made the mistake of overkill. No one is as dumb as you portray.
theLordIovesusaII 1 year ago
@theLordIovesusaII, In short, what you are trying to say is that you are simply unable to substantiate from the bible, the 6 points of false catholic teaching which I challenged you to. So it's not surprising the next best thing you can do is to change the subject and attack the person who brought you the awful truth that your catholic church is propagating false teachings, contrary to that the bible teaches.
opsvideo2008 1 year ago
@GOPHATESAMERICA , If you want to know exactly what FatherNathan is talking about regarding the Vatican hiding pedos, then you only need to search the BBC Panorama video entitled "Sex Crimes and Vatican Part 1 of 4 " on youtube and watch it. All the evidence, including the testimonies of witnesses are there. Then ask yourself if you still think FatherNathan is talking out of his hat.

Sad.
bshaw7325 2 years ago
What you probably don't know is that celibacy is only required of the Latin rite church. Most priests are married.
FatherNathan 2 years ago
I don't agree with the Catholic Church's policy of forcing celibacy on priests, but most pedophiles aren't pedophiles from a lack of heterosexual sex. They just have a taste for young children.

bazzymushpea123 2 years ago
I would have to strongly disagree with that statement.
FatherNathan 2 years ago
that's fine, what would be your reasons for this?
bazzymushpea123 2 years ago
Father Monk, I know of one episode in which, as Cardinal Ratzinger, the present Pope supported harboring a pedophile priest wanted in America has been harbored in Rome. Clearly this was on his part an effort to protect the Church from suffering further damage.
A young man like you, sir, can serve his congregation and the Christian tradition best by setting an example of marital love and fatherhood. The Church must abandon the hypocrisy of the so-called celibate priesthood. It was never so!
mc0558 2 years ago
I agree with you completely. This is why I am married and have a family.
FatherNathan 2 years ago
I live in a village just north of Rome. The village priest died last year. At the funeral were his perpetua and his two adult sons by her and their families. The whole village had known about it for decades. Whether his bishop knew I don't know. By the way, he was known by his parishners as a very tough priest.
mc0558 2 years ago
As far as I can tell, the scandal is more a gay scandal than anything illegal. Now what is it, a "pedophile scandal" or a "sex scandal". These two concepts are very, very different things, and it is odd that you confuse the two.

saludeploribus 3 years ago
Fr. Nathan, I agree with you that there should have been more punishment for the horrible priests that did those things. Not only should they have been removed from all parishes or anywhere near children, but most of them should have gone to prison. However, you failed to address one of the largest root causes why it happened in the first place. Over the last 40 years or so, Catholic priests have either failed to preach proper Catholic doctrine on sexual morality or they ignored it altogether!
mstatz 3 years ago
Fr Nathan represents the decent, caring & sincere work of the church he represents. Unfortunately, his voice is not heard enough in the mainstream media & the church would prefer him not to speak at all. Speaking out can cost you your priesthood, as a priest I know can testify to. Whilst sexual abuse is common in institutions of all types, it is both a problem within the catholic church that is failing to be addressed & a popular hobby horse for a decadent news media.
rangringadongfor 3 years ago
@rangringadongfor, You are totally mistaken. It is a hobby horse for the world media simply because the catholic top hierachy is engaged in the diabolical practice of DELIBERATE COVER-UP , at the expense of the great torment and suffering of little and helpless child victims. Pedophilia is the most despicable human sexual crime and its cover-up by the catholic church top officials is equally disgusting & criminal.

The fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom, and unless we get Pastors and preists who actually know Who the God from the scripture is and what he hates and who he hates, then none of this will be going on. Yes, There are people that God hates whether you believe it or not, its in scripture.

That is what you must be Father Nathan. You MUST be ELIJAH! Catholosism is about faith with action. YOU ELIJAH, must take action to get the catholic authority to heel her son. (not saying the pope is God just making a litterary connection of two situations) You said in one video that we will judge along side God in heaven. Doesn't that mean we should judge along side the
redgreenyellow 3 years ago
is that not what we basically do in prayer? If someone gets sick is that not God's will? And praying for that person to get better would that not be going against Gods will? Heres an example the bible has about going against Gods will for the better 1 Kings 17:17-21 Elijah brings the widows son back from the dead by praying to God over him. DIDN'T GOD TAKE THE CHILD'S LIFE?! If yes then it was the lords will. then Elijah went against his will. But God didnt ignore Elijah, he answered his prayer.

He had his reason on addressing it.
pices1970 3 years ago
Rev Nathan, I was wondering if you have a list of these officers of the church who are involved in this "coverup?" I'm sure if you did it would be all over the news. The media would all be parked at your door wanting interviews and wanting copies of it! The reason they are not is because there is no list. You are stating a talking point from the media. You fail to mention all of the accusations against priests that were found to be false. You failed to menton the money that was paid out.
pices1970 3 years ago
I can not believe it! arghjesse commented about "regular sex" offenders! I wasn't aware there were different classes. No sex offender is any better than any other. This issue just attacks Catholic Priests. This is going on through all sects of society. Compared to sex offenders as a whole these priests were a small amount. This atrosity is going on throughout the protestant community as well. It happens throughout all authorative vocations where people were trusted and held to a high standard.
pices1970 3 years ago
Rev Nathan, this was a decision made by the Pope of how he addressed this. Justin Martyr died because he wouldn't give into persecution on the Church. If you wear the collar of a Roman Catholic then you should be willing to accept the consequences. Your arguments come from someone who is not even in communion with the Catholic Church. You should state this beforehand. A Roman Catholic wouldn't contradict the Pope. By the ommision of this small detail left out you are misrepresenting the Church.
pices1970 3 years ago
A child's voice is only as powerful as those who are powerful enough to act for them. Demand accountability from molestors and those who protect molestors. Mahony's diocese transferred pedophiles from one parish to another. It is deplorable that he is promoted to archbishop of Los Angeles and was one of the cardinal electors in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI. Such disgrace!
VincitQuiSeVincit123 3 years ago
You people are strange. You don't think clergy who touch children should go to jail? What about regular sex offender do you just want them to go to church and get to go home at night? The inquisition would have tortured and killed these guys (providing they weren't powerful) I would not be against chemical castration. These aren't members of the folk who strayed. These were people (often gay) who joined the church to have contact with defenseless children.
arghjesse 3 years ago
BUT, at the same time, i agree. While not being sent to jail, the Priests/Bishops/Cardinals in questions SHOULD be actively removed from office and perish. What they did was wrong, and they have a debt to pay for it. The Pope needs to remove them, and make strong reperations for the victims. As Catholics, we need to embrace the victims and help them! I feel so sorry for them.
The priests need to leave their office, and seek help as a Saint has done a time or two.
cet1217 3 years ago
I tend to agree with you, but I have to say one thing:
Why kick those Priests and Bishops out of the Church and send them to jail? HOW IS THAT GOING TO HELP THEM? What they need is God! They need to get rid of the evil spirits within them!
I must say that I totally agree with them covering it up! LOOK WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY RELEASED IT?! It would have been better to just take the Priests and deal with it! They don't need jail, they need God, Exorcism maybe even!
cet1217 3 years ago
Regardless of the erroneous doctrines within the Catholic Church, people should not label every Catholic priest as a pedophile over the actions of a hand full.
zkueker88 3 years ago
thanks for that concession zach... though you will find NO erroneous doctrines within the Catholic Church ... if there were , the gates of hell would have prevailed and our Lord would have lied... we KNOW that could not be a possibility so what other conclusion could we arrive at?
