was it an autopilot failure or an issue with the fuel-pump?? I faced a delay last year on Singapore SQ220 (also an A388) (doin Singapore-Changi to Sydney) coz they reported a problem with the fuel-pump.. and again Qantas reported a problem on one of its A380's doing Melbouirne to LAX (QF93) a couple of months due to a fuel-pumpglitch ... seems like Airbus needs to rectify this rather recurring issue on its superjumbo

Slow on approach is good.

747 is a sexy aircraft, certainly looks better than the A380. But it's old tech.

If we start talking performance, safety, technology and efficiency, the A380 is the better aircraft.

I will try to get more details on what happened to the AF007 Autopilot. Whatever it was, the issue was severe enough to force the turn around when the aircraft was south of Nova Scotia, Canada.

The autopilot was "inoperable" - the reason they had to turn back was because RVSM rules stipulate you can't fly over FL290 without autopilot on an Atlantic crossing. It would have cost so much more in fuel (and PAX comfort!) that the best decision was to turn back and try and fix the problem.

You obviously dont know much about JFK, plenty of spots to see it land 31L go to Inwood park. Comes in right in front of you

Well, I don't live in NYC so you are right.  However, I was referring to spotting "at" JFK. Unlike other airports (like BOS) where you can spot at the airport, you have to spot "around" JFK. Thanks for the 31L spotting tip. I will try it the next time I am in town.
