Great suggestions, specifically BeatMaker...I am interested in making songs (starting with some simple techno stuff) and I've made a few songs with other peoples' royalty-free loops.

I bought a midi keyboard and sold it recently and had only trouble with it because I hadn't realized it was only a midi controller and not any sort of synth, do you have any suggestions on easier to use components? I am very good with electronics but FL Studio + midi keyboard was a confusing/limited combination.

I would suggest an used anologue keyboard from Roland like the Juno 106. Try Ebay. Very hands on. A keyboard with all the knobs as opposed to all that digital menu stuff.

The Itouch has pretty good battery life (3.5 out of 5). You can always get an external battery. Obviously, use will effect the battery life so...
