He learned from his upbringing and a good piano teacher then listening and experimenting and working hard and then of course ARt Tatum....Don't try to be anyone but yourself.
Oscar Peterson has nothing to prove to anyone, least of all to a piss-ant (you) It's said that when a person appreciates something for what it is, it says more about that person than it does about the thing being appreciated. What you've said about yourself here is how remarkably small your world and your mind is. We don't want to know you, and really, you shouldn't even post in this arena. You have nothing of consequence to say, and no one is listening...so Shut Up!!
@hess45able The respect of his peers, legendary status, numerous awards, millions of fans. Might as well say of an architect 'Yes, he can build great houses, but what else can he do?' Being a genius isn't enough for you? Maybe you'd have been more impressed if juggled at the same time?
...Lots of technique? besides the chops, he created the solo that he's playing on the spot. Take the sheet music away from you, tell you to play something out of your head, and let's see how far you get, you moron...
Well, I may have a problem with Peterson’s approach to music. But being able to play fast and technically correct isn’t an essential criterion in my dictionary when I value the quality of music.
As you may know (?) there are many approaches to music. For example, I don’t like Stockhausen, but I recognize his musical capabilities. Same with Peterson – but I just don’t like his approach – prefer, say, Bill Evans or Keith Jarrett. We are not alike, fortunately. Ever heard about the word toleration?
The awful thing about this video is that the camera operator resolutely refuses to keep the damned camera on Oscar's hands! How could anyone be that stupid?
If you'd really like to get started on a journey to be able to play, just like he does - Please, pass through m profile and look for my easyasthatpiano website; it's a 5 dollar thing. And it teaches you how to play in less than a week... :)
@VanargrandsEnd haha I wouldn't say one of the greatest. - He's incredible & It made me smile big time :P. - That was some real hardcore playing...xD, full on bass rythm while he's soloing as fast as he can; it was superb & i give this video a million thumbs up. - But there are many more just like him....It's not a surprise, really.
@aparantaz2 He's trying to advertise a website to learning how to play - But i don't think there's one better than one on the easyasthatpiano website :l.... - Not only because it is mine, but because It's got secrets that no other has :D
I miss Oscar Peterson.
