The church is the instrument by which God communicates his doctrine/teaching. Scripture itself was written by members of the church. By the way, for 300 years, there was no Bible. It is through the body of Christ, that the truths of Christ are declared. You can't make up your own interpretations. If you read a Bible verse and come up with something that no one else ever has, than be really concerned. If you decide that Jesus was only God or only man. You fight against the scripture/church

Actually the first thing that Jesus says in this verse is GO and make disciples. This is not collecting a bunch of unbelievers in a place and calling it church. This type of "sermon" is not needed if the congregation understands the meaning of and signifigance in baptism. Where is the shepherd? Oh yeah, he doesn't visit the sick or share meals with the flock and deeper to him is one's tithing record. It's nice to know that "good Christian boys" make this hireling sick, as he so put it.

baptism was for the Jews. only Paul went to the gentiles and he never said that gentiles had to get baptized. Paul said, "if you CONFESS with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and BELIEVE in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." he does not go on to say anything about being baptized. Paul did not go around baptizing people.
Actually, I don't think he understands baptism at all. Appealing to "because Jesus says so" is not only legalistic, but it is unconvincing to many. Show them the gospel, show them that baptism is uniting with Christ and identifying with Him, THEN you are giving a legitimate appeal for baptism.
According to the Bible, Jesus doesn't "clean you up" until you are baptized. Acts 2:38 says this quite clearly. And, in order to call upon the name of Jesus, it involves baptism, Acts 22:16 says that very clearly as well.
@Concatenate - only in relation to the kingdom that was promised to Israel which is what was in view in the gospels and the majority of acts...Jesus was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel so His message would have been very specific to them.....to say that Jesus cleans us up in baptism as it relates to the gospel of grace is nonsense...our baptism is with the holy spirit into Christ....
