It's an experience that only another English teacher in the Maldives will understand : ) My islands were bigger it's true. Seeing your clips bought back many memories, it was a beautiful but highly pressurised time in my life. Management were v messed up esp Full Moon - but I loved my students and the ocean very much, and will never forget my time out there.
I know exactly what you mean about pressure and such. It's a job/place that you can't explain in a way that others could possibly comprehend unless they experienced it for themselves. Still...I miss the Indian Ocean. I still find myself swimming there in my dreams almost every night.
I never got to visit your islands but i did the same job between 2002 -2003 for Full Moon and Soneva Fushi and totally understand were you are coming from
You understand the insanity! :-) I miss the not wearing shoes part. A year is a much better amount of time to live there than two years...the second year is very difficult. Your islands are a lot bigger than mine. (8 minutes to walk around one and 6 minutes to walk around the other with your feet in the water)
It's Vabbinfaru. The next closest is Ihuru. Yes, I worked for two resorts (they're sister companies). I taught English to 200 of the staff...everything after working there is a holiday :-) In Spain I work 1/3 as many hrs for 60% more pay. :-P
