  • some pretty disgusting creatures lol

mine's about to do the same thing

  • wats the look of of the fry? do they look like a tiny moving weird things???? cuz i have some in da tank

  • Do the shrimp eat baby fry?

  • @SkullSquadronVF84 it's possible, but not likely

  • How do you tell a male from female?

  • @gladmama females are larger and tend to have a belly

  • i can't see anything

  • @BRFishTanks Not much you can do. Just don't disturb her and the tank. Try to keep the water steady if possible.

  • is it true you can only use food that sinks to the bottom if so what kind of food do they need and how many can i put in a 1.5 gallon tank?

  • @saveryanplz I would not recommend you use 1.5 gallons. It is much too small to ensure stable water parameters; shrimp are very sensitive to water quality

  • @f1shbone okay thank you

  • That female ghost shrimp is actually keeping the eggs in her belly and she's using her fins to aerate the eggs. She isn't dropping them, she will keep them in her belly until they hatch.

  • The music for this is perfect. Reminds me of some of the music in Blue planet: seas of life.

  • it took me 17 secs to find he shrimp

  • and ahgainthanks for the advice

  • this is my first time even getting a fish so i don know shit

  • thanks for the advice

  • Wow, spectacular! :D that was so cool :) I have 2 GS but they're prob same sex, thankfully. Dont wanna deal with babies and feedin em etc.. My Betta would probably eat em anyways, so small they are. I think the 2 I have are safe, they're cammoflage against the gravel.

  • or do you think i can put it with a shark or catfish

  • @mikeyagubyan those should be safer than a beta

  • @mikeyagubyan Catfish and sharks would eat them, you need smaller fish that would not pick on them, in my experience, I have had betas with my ghost shrimp and they do fine.

  • @ShadowsFIAL depends on what kind of catfish you're talking about. Synodontis cats won't eat them, neither will corydora cats or glass cats. But the larger kind might if they get hungry enough. But generally speaking, every breed of catfish is a scavenger so they most likely won't eat something that's alive. the only way I can see them eating a ghost shrimp is if it was already dead.

  • is it okay to have a male betta and a ghost shrimp together in same tank

  • @mikeyagubyan you can try it but the beta may eat it

  • @mikeyagubyan I've currently got 3 ghost shrimp with a male betta and several zebra danios. They get along just fine for me.

  • @mikeyagubyan should be fine.

  • @mikeyagubyan my betta murder 4 ghost shrimp in 8 hour ... u can try it ....

i experiment it before putting my expensive Amano , Red Crystal and Sakura ^^

  • Ur shrimp look really healthy. Obviously doing a great job taking care of them. Cool vid.

  • how long till they hatch?

  • straight ass video. thanks for posting this.

  • kalmah

  • mine does thet every time

  • is your tank salted or do the shrimp just breed in fresh water. I want to have them in a fresh water set up will they breed on their own or will I have to separate the females and add salt?

  • @nicofish1000 100% freshwater. They don't need salt

  • @nicofish1000 you dont have to i have like 8 of those and they are together with my guppys and mollies and they dont fight or anything so they dont salt water they are fresh watered

  • @stevo94379 yeah, I was curious though cause I had read that some species of fresh water move to more brakish to breed. I had some pregnant females but they ate the shrimpy babies. thanks for the help

  • man they tiny

  • I have a tiger barb, a swrodtail, and a glofish. My tiger barbs will nip at the ghost shrimp, they always get away but sometimes they land out of the water and just sit on the glass of the tank on the inside where there is no water...i push em back in with a net and they do fine but i was wondering if it is ok for this to happen. thanks.

  • @BloodBullet64 this is stressful for the shrimp, it's not OK to happen but obviously there is nothing you can do about it. Why don't you fill up the tank ALL the way up to the glass cover, so the shrimp won't get stuck out anymore

  • @f1shbone it hasnt happened since, but i will do that just in case. thanks

  • kool

  • i ment after the female release's the eggs. she could mistake them for food... at least thats what i've heard

  • @PokerJunkie916 It is possible, but your first concern is getting those eggs to hatch.

  • i have a shrimp thats pregnant, when she releases the eggs does it happen all at once? cause i heard you have to keep the mother away from the eggs cause she will eat them

  • @PokerJunkie916 I've never heard of that happening. You should not have to separate the eggs from the female.

  • @f1shbone because she will eat them and start making the eggs hatch n the babies stay in the mother's stomach until they grow up

  • @DanishnSonic That's not true. The mother releases the eggs. They hatch in the water and the ghost shrimp has a plankton phase before they turn into miniature adults.

  • nice finger!

  • do they need a filter or pump and can you put them with a betta?

  • @Buttons110 Yes they absolutely need a filter because the water has to be spotless. Whether or not they can live with a betta depends on the betta.

  • @Buttons110 I have a 2.5 galllon tank with my crowntail, and 3 ghost shrimp with a 1-3 gal filter and at room temp, and they're doing well.

  • wow. such beautiful music.

  • did u have to turn off the filter when they where giving birth? i have a ghost shrimp thats about to lay her eggs soon

  • this are 25 cents each in the sf valley in los angeles

  • what ph and temperture is your water??!!

  • 45 cents in san antonio texas :(!! but today i bought two that were pregnant!

  • I didn't know they drop the eggs? I thought they just held them until they hatched. How long after they drop them do they hatch?

  • The eggs are dropped only when they are ready to hatch

  • @f1shbone I thought that were dropped if the mother though they couldnt live? Because dont the eggs under her belly usually just unfold and float to the top of the water when they are ready to hatch :o?

  • @f1shbone how hard is it to take care of them?

  • @richard2mitchell not very, they are basically maintenance free IF you have a very well established tank. If there is any traces of ammonia or nitrites, it will kill them. They are very sensitive to water parameters.

  • @f1shbone the thing with me is somehow i can keep a tank clean for long i dont know y

  • @richard2mitchell you mean you CAN'T keep it clean? Send me a private message with what you are doing and I will try to help.

  • @f1shbone i thank i need a bigger filter.. i dont know what ones r the best i tryed to look them up and got no where lol

  • one shrimp for £ 3.18 here in england I think thats about 5 dollers but im not sure

  • there 33 cents in dearborn mi

  • @WheresWaldoTV 26 cents here in jersey

  • 8 shrimps for 1 dollar here in california!!

  • here in yakima washington are ghost shrimp are 15 for 15 cents

  • will fish eat the eggs

  • Oh yes, they most definitely will, and they will even eat small fry if they can. I let nature take it's course in my tank and most fry survived by hiding in plants.

  • thanks i just wanted to know cause tomorrow im going to pet store to buy some fish.

  • all of these cooments here tell how much they cost, my crabs love these 26 cent shrimp

  • a dollar each at my local fish store..

  • thats too much there 33 cents here in dearborn michigan

  • yea, even their pest snails that they don't even like are a dollar( very tiny ones too)

    their cherry shrimp were $5.00.......

though less if it's from an actual perosn not a vendor..

  • omg those r free at my lfs, thier called pest snails cause no one want them.

  • really? wow.. they say that about theirs but still charge that much.. i don't think they have them anymore.

  • if u have freshwater im rying to make my tank look natural. i had black gravel but now im thinking of getting like a natural looking substarte. like sand gravel. i have bog wood in there with a lot of plants but i dont no if my plants will anchor into the sand i really like it. will it look natural.

  • i love black gravel, out of all of them it looks the most natural to me(maybe besides white i guess?)

i'm not sure if they'll stay well in sand..

they might but may get uprooted easily

  • 26 cents here in Texas

  • 30 cent/each in South Carolina

  • £2.50 each in england

  • omg is that in euos or american money?! thats like a huge rip off!!!

  • 14 cents in bosten :D good feeder shirp tho!

  • .25 cents here near kansas city.

  • my place its 46 cents for each lolz

  • In Bangkok i get 1 big bag for 20 Baht about 150 shrimps.

and also i can get 100 Cichlid for 60 baht. with is about 3 $ US./AUD

    Awsome aye?

  • in my place 1 dollar for 20-30 of them lol

  • isnt this grass shrimp?

  • If you meant glass shrimp, then yes. Same thing, just a different name

  • yay I just got ghost shrimp eggs and food from a prize today!!!!

  • Have you had any luck with raising ghost shrimp larvae? I read what you asked on that forum. Thats a smart idea.

  • i need help i got a new tank my 1st and i have one ghost shrimp and 2 minnows and a gold cleaner snail. the problem is that the one of the 2 minnows bother the shrimp alot what should i do, if i had more shrimp i think they would be fine

  • I have similar ghost shrimp and about 6 out of 8 of them all have these green spherical bodies attached to their under-bellies. I'm guessing these are the eggs from waht I have researched. I've actually caught these shrimp in the wild near a canal I live by. Hopefully they will lay eggs and my filter/pump wont suck them up. Do the shrimp "attach" the eggs? Or do they just release them?

    Thanks.

  • The shrimp release the eggs. You need pretty still waters for them to hatch and also make sure you don't have other fish that could feed off the larvae.

  • I have 4 pregnant ghost shrimp. do they release the eggs b4 they hatch, or release them after they hatch? i can already see little black eyes on the green eggs.

    Please respond.

    Thx(:

  • They release the eggs as they hatch

  • thank you(:

I just put them in a maternity tank for now until they drop the eggs.

  • dude the eggs are hatching what do i do please help quick

  • my baby ghost shrimp just float around... is that supposed to happen..? There like 3 days old

  • Do they need certain conditoins to mate or will they just doit in a community

  • nope, just put them together and nature takes care of the rest.

  • Wait a sec, my ghost shrimp is pregnant, but she's dropped 3 eggs already.. but I heard they have live birth. I'm confused!! @.@

  • lmao. the one your video taped wasnt laying eggs. i jsut had a female ghoat shrimp release her "eggs" - they are born live, and they float around the water using thier tail.. they dont bury the eggs..

  • Yeah, since I posted this video I've found out too.

  • btw hey are ghost shrimp feeder shrimp?

  • Yep, regular ghost shrimpies

  • bettas have almost like a lung and they breate by air surface, shrimps and fishes do not, and they need a filter for oxygen...

  • f1shbone I like all of your tank videos! I was so amazed @ how that aquarium sand looked, how much did it cost you and what is the proper term for the sand?

    THANKS!

  • Hey thanks!

The sand is called pool filter sand and you can find it at any pool store. Over here in Nebraska it costs about 12 bucks for a 50 pound bag. It is MUCH better than play sand because it doesn't compact as easily, settles on the bottom FAST and doesn't cloud the water.

  • I beg to differ I tried using pool sand And It was cloudy I washed it like 36 times and it still clouded up my water so I juts had to let it settle and deal with a half cloudy water if I disturb the sand a little it completly jacks up my water gosh

  • The quality of pool filter sand varies. It might be that yours was either dirty when you bought it, or the grain size was significantly smaller than normal. In any case, your experience is in stark contrast to what pool filter sand normally does.

  • how you get yours clean

  • actually, your sand might be marine sand. Check the PH of the water, if its around 8 its probably the sands fault. Marine sand is always cloudy, it should have came with a small pack of purifier so taht the filter and small particles clump together and gets filtered. Otherwise, your using the wrong substraight. These shrimps need neutral PH.

  • I'm jumping in here reallly late, but I have used "play sand" like 3 dollars for 50 pounds, I pour part of it in a 5gal bucket 3/4 full, rinse it two or three or times, let it sit over night in standing water, drain off the top and use it. I've never had a cloudy issue with it, or any problems. Used it for cichlids, turtles, newts, anything that can use a fine substrate. The worst was a RES who dug constantly, there was a slight haze around he would dig for about five mnutes after he stopped.

  • have u had any luck growing plants in play sand?

  • I actually haven't tried personallt. I've used it with plant eating turtles and fish, so I've stuck with plastic plants. As far as newts go they don't eat plants, but I have a good stock of plastic plants so I've used them. I asked a friend who uses live plants with less plant aggressive fish, he says, the bulb type plants do well in sand with a gravel base. Easy to move them while cleaning, but he had plenty of natural fertilizer, if you didn't that'd be his concern.

  • 20 for 5 dollars here in texas

  • really? i buy them 15cents each..south texas

  • you guys are lucky the only place we can get them in my city, they cost 1 dollar each.. i bought 8 that i saw clearly had eggs... hopefully they spawn so many babies. Is there a way to leave the babies in and they will somehow survive? i built a netword of pvc pipe caves they seem to be surviving in.

  • in my city there 10 for a dollar.

  • They are 38 cent for one here near Atlanta.

  • @JManComics

im so angry right now! here they are 3.99 each, sometimes i really hate canada...

  • hello there i need to know something if you dont mind, i currentley have 2 neon tetras 2 black skirt tetras 1 male yellow guppie and 1 gold mysterey snail (who just had about 20 babies by the way)so i wanted to know if after i add my gold skirt tetra and a few more neons do any of them eat ghost shrimp? thank you

  • That sounds like a LOT of fish. I hope you don't have them all in anything smaller than a 20 gallon! The shrimp should be fine, none of the fish you listed are known to eat them.

  • actually, bettas don't eat ghost shrimp unless they're hungry or suspicous about it.....

  • do ghost shirmps need oxygen?

  • Yes, but no more oxygen than fish. So as long as you have a decent amount of water surface aggitation, then your water should be well oxygenated.

  • so can i put a ghost shrimp in a tank with my betta with out filter and heater and air pump?

  • No, because of 2 reasons. One, bettas eat ghost shrimp. Two, shrimp are VERY sensitive to water conditions and they need a filter. I will send you a Private Message with the rest of the information.

  • um. bettas dont eat ghost shrimps. they are tank mates

  • As a matter of fact, they do. Don't take my word for it, do a search on the internet. You will come to find out it's basically a gamble.

  • no they don't unless threir crammed together.

  • yo give me info on ghost shrimp and bettas too...
