  • Sound of Muzak is the most mainstream sounding song on In Absentia and this song uses 4 chords. Oh, the irony...

  • Last Night I put Porcupine mix before I sleep, and thru my dream I hear some wicked song and words.four cocks that made a milion..it wakes me up was like wtf then I realzie is their song four CHORDS that made a milion..hahah... good morning sunhine

  • according you: who are the best on Chris and Gavin? for me gavin, also because I started to know this band when he pubblished the incident :(

  • It's ironic that this song consists of 4 chords

  • what's bad about song that has 4 chords?

    lame

does song need to have 1324648453 chords to be good?

  • @gogolplex74

I'm sorry, but you don't seem too smart.

  • @faselblaDer3te Ok what are chords?

  • @gogolplex74

    Why do you ask?

  • @gogolplex74 I don't think it's saying that songs with 4 chords in general are bad.

  • This song should be video response to this:

    watch?v=i4_f6pfabQk

  • What's the instrument called that plays the quick melody before the drums kick in?

  • @xinjinbei I dont know, but sounds like edited violin made in the keyboard, but the true i dont know.

  • @luiscv18 Sounds like a Sitar or other Middle-Eastern string instrument like it.

  • @xinjinbei It's just a certain type of distorted guitar.

  • @xinjinbei I think its either a Saranji or a Sarod...

  • @xinjinbei I'd wager on some sort of bamboo flute. but nowdays it could be anything synthesised

  • @xinjinbei Its by a instrument called tabla :p im indian

  • @SiLenTkiLLer9790 Hes asking the 10 second melody, not the percussion behind vocals

  • @xinjinbei it sounds to me like a chinese violin, a erhu or whatever they´re called.

  • @xinjinbei I'm not particularly sure, but it could be one of these: Shamisen, Koto, Shanai.

  • @xinjinbei Its a tabla

  • @xinjinbei sounds more like a japanese bowed lute

  • @xinjinbei It sounds like an Erhu, but i may be wrong.

  • What a masterpiece of a lyric: Four chords that made a million

Also, LOVE the Tabla, and the epic-as-usual bassline!

  • In other words its about people who use music as a way of making money and gaining fame instead of a way of expressing themselves, even if no one understands it, for personal gratification. Which is basically the whole point of ART.

  • Basically this song talks about how pop artists have made their way through by using merely four chords in their songs (which are e b c#m a). These chords are the backbone of every mayor pop song written in the last 4 decades, which are nothing more than shallow and empty songs that do not bring anything new or interesting to the table. They only focus on superficial mass moving lyrics and melody instead of creating music in a meaningful, creative way with deep philosofical & esoteric lyrics

  • great song

  • this song conveys a great message

  • This song to me pretty much shits on the whole entire music industry lol!

  • This sounds really Tomorrow Never Knows like

  • This song sounds a lot like early Dream Theater, which is certainly not a bad thing because Dream Theater are amazing, too.

  • I immediately think of "smells like teen spirit" when I hear this song.

  • @Ey3le5s666 why is that?

  • great song by a really underrated or unknown of band

  • @3InchesOfBlood153 more like whiny drivel

  • I think this song is about Oasis.. Listen to the style! The vocal style etc... Hide behind the wall of nothing... Oasis had a wall of sound. Oasis suck arse.

  • @SupermansWheelchair1 No they didnt.

  • @SupermansWheelchair1 There are much MUCH worse bands than Oasis. Also the line about black guitars or plastic blues makes no sense whatsoever. Its more likely some idiotic, contrived emo band pitched for the kiddies.

  • amesome song!! the ufo percussion in the start is cool! but it's ufo!!

  • why can't i find this song on I tunes?

  • Bruford is great, but Neil Peart (Rush) is too. Also Richard Christy (Dead, Control Denied, Iced Earth) is much better than any contemporary drummer.

  • I always think they wrote this about Fred Durst/Limp bizkit every time I hear it.Awesome song

  • Great song. I like how they mock mainstream music with the repetitive chorus. But it's a good message, and it needs to be repeated. Check out Jon Lajoie's "Pop Song". Same message, but it's made to be real funny.

  • This song is funny.

  • Great video man! YOU RULE! XD

und das Lied ist auch super toll!

    fünf sternen! 5*

  • Gavin's in the picture, but Chris played on this song.

  • Yes, Chris played in this song, but i made a mistake and i can´t edit the video.

    Thanks!

  • lol dude its not chris its gavin!!!!

  • Great song

  • Thanks!

  • lol Gavin Harrison XD

  • great video :)

  • eh disculpa pero quien aparece, en esa foto no es chris, sino gavin harrison

  • Tienes razón.

    Gracias. ^_^

  • ah, para servirte,

  • That is Chris Maitland drumming. Gavin Harrison started on In Absentia.

  • That's right, Gavin is one of the best prog drummers along with Mike Portnoy of DT actually

  • you should listen to some older stuff if you wanna hear the best prog drummers. Bill Bruford of King Crimosn and Yes, OMG! He can do anything!

  • @PermanentWave62 Me thinks gavin (the latest PT drummer in case you didn't know is better.

He is the current king crimson drummer too

    :P

  • yeaaaaaaah Chris Maitland quit forever ago

  • good stuff

  • First

  • Your video is absolutely great!

    NO DOUBT!

    excellent!

    I LOVE PORCUPINE TREE!!!
