thanks for the post these are very interesting boats. I read a book on native boats published by Smithsonian which suggested that umiaks are the strongest boat pound for pound ever devised. Lightweight, tough, strong, rapidly constructed for low cost, seaworthy and able to carry a huge load under sail, paddle or outboard.
