  • There is a particular verse that has always filled my heart about the relationship Jesus had with Peter and it is found in Luke 22:32, Jesus says, "But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." This is pretty clear on Jesus seeing him as head of the apostles, Jesus said it, I believe it & that settles it!!!

  • im doing an religion aisighnment amd one of the things i have to do is write an essay on the synoptic gospels. i also have to write about the church history....any help...

another thing is that if i write about peter, do i say that he was the first pope? do i say that he might have even made up that jesus gave him the keys? if not how can i prove it. another thing is that of the keys? and the persecution of the apostles?

  • There is this book called "Upon this Rock"....which is really good...and there is this book called Church History by FR. John Laux...also if you can read some Early Church Fathers...

You can say that Peter was the first Pope because he was or you can say that Peter ran the Church after Christ Left....(it depends on what kind of religion class it is)...

i hope you get the answers you need..

  • @mrh3tic,On Saint Peter yes he was the first Pope, Use this verses as an example. Matt. 14:28-29-only Peter has the faith to walk on water. No other man in Scripture is said to have the faith to walk on water. This faith ultimately did not fail. Matt. 16:16, Mark 8:29; John 6:69 -Peter is first among the apostles to confess the divinity of Christ.Acts 2:14-Peter is first to speak for the apostles after the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost. Peter is the first to preach the Gospel.

  • peter was not the first pope of the catholic church.peter of the new testement would have preached against it.then he would have shhok the dust off his feet as a testimony against it.

  • In fact Peter was. As I mentioned before in the video...also you can find a list from a non biased resource that will tell you too...read the Early church Fathers...the early church fathers that knew the apostles...see what they have to say about Peter

  • Peter received "the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven." Keys in ancient times were a symbol of absolute authority.

Did Jesus give the keys to himself?

  • god is the creater of heaven and earth not jesus; jesus is the son of god

  • you make it sound that there are two gods...

there is only ONE GOD...Thank goodness for the Trinity...

  • John 1:3 and Colosians 1 says Jesus created all things. Jesus is God. As God, He is the Creator.

  • yep

  • Peter is the little rock and Jesus is the universe ,He is all heaven and Earth!!!!hey I put this video in my saints playlist is that all right with you ?

  • you can take any thing of mine and put it on your playlist anybody can...I have some of yours i believe in mine...like st. pedro pio....please go right ahead...

  • So many Protestants get hung up on the word "rock" and fail to see that either way Peter still retained the keys. God Bless You

  • true..they use the Greek text, the word used for Peter is "Petros..which is a masculine noun, while the word used for rock is petra, a feminine noun. Petros means "small stone," while petra means "massive rock" (petra)upon which Christ will build His Church must not refer to Peter the "small stone" (petros) but rather to Peter's prfession of faith or to Jesus..however, (continued)

  • Jesus spoke Aramaic, which leaves no room for the Greek Petros/petra distinction. In Aramaic, the word for rock is kepha. What Christ said was, "you are Kepha (Rock) and upon this kepha (rock) I will build my Church." In Aramaic, the identification of Peter as rock is clear.

the reasoning why the greek uses two different words for Peter and the rok is that the greek word for rock, petra, is feminine. it would not be appropriate (continued)

  • to give a man a feminine name. So the translator gave petra a masculine ending and rendered it Petros.

So next time a protestants try to do that just know that they are taking it from the greek writings and not the language of Christ who spoke Aramaic...

  • No, we get hung up on the fact that Peter never handed the keys to anyone. If the Rock is a Reference to Authority then the RCC stole it from Peter, He never handed anything over to them. While the Gospel of Mathew does illistrate Jesus giving Keys to Peter the others leave out this information and state only the confession. Peter himself names Jesus as the Cornerstone and himself with us as little stones. I'll take Peter's interpretation as the correct way for us to interpretate it.

  • you are wrong if you look at the description box...and then do some study you will learn about his name. and Yes Jesus did give the keys to Peter...do you ignore scripture?

  • symbolic keys ,

  • @1974PeaceMaker symbolic keys or litteral keys...the meaning is still the same. Jesus gave Peter the keys, in other words, gave Peter Authority over Jesus' Church...

  • @Riverfrog72 Peter was an office. Look at it this way: God changed Abraham's name with means 'Father of Many Nations'. Is not God the Father of many nations? Then it is right to infer the God 'and' Abraham are Fathers of Many Nations, just as Jesus 'and' Peter are the petras which God builds his Church. Praise God for his favor. +If Jesus was building his Church on Peter and then he died...would that mean that he stopped building his Church? Of course not; Simon - man; Peter - office. GBY!

  • Jesus choose Peter to build His church. The scriptures tell us so. It is the church that Peter founded that is the Roman Catholic Church as we know it today. Nice vid. Pax +

  • He was the first Pope...Jesus told Peter (not andrei) that he is the rock and that he will build His Church...Jesus gave Peter the keys...peter lead the other apostles...and spoke for them. Peter was the one who was the first Pope...even a non biased book leads all the popes to Peter.

thank you and God bless my sweet friend

  • well done saint peter is the rock!

  • thank you and yes he is the rock...he is the Head...even a non biased book leads up all the popes to Saint Peter...
