  • I like to leave eye-pupils to the very last. It's a ritual I need to do when drawing and painting.

  • Go to 1:44 to see a paintbrush doing some weird shit. Then go to 5:15 to see paintbrushes doing some really cartoony fucked up shit. Also when she moves her hands around Im seeing trails big time. Great video plus it makes me feel like I'm tripping balls.

  • YEAH~~ TIM MINCHIN ROCKS!!!! anyway, love ur tutorial, but i m wondering if acrylic will work as well

  • You are very pretty.

  • you remind me of a pornstar

  • Ooooh, I thought it said "How to: Dry Hump" sorry :)

  • Heyya...Good technique there :D Could this technique work with normal watercolors?

    You are preety :)

  • @GotterVibez I dont have much experience with watercolours. If you're using the kind out of the tubes without watering them down, it might work. But I think oil colour may provide better smudging abilities :-p

  • This is an excellent 'how to' vid. I love how you added larger photographs of the brushes, and zoomed in on fine details, not many do that. Clever girl! Beautifully talented, can't wait to see more of your work.

-May unicorns poop rainbows all over your day! xxx

  • Will acrylics work for this technique? You're amazing- thank you for this!

  • @zogirl99 I imagine the only problem with acrylics might be that the paint you put out to work with may dry too fast. But its worth a shot using what you have available to you before getting anything new :-)

  • hmmm... i wonder what her favorite color is...? lol seriously though, thanks for sharing this video.

  • Great video! Really helped! Thanks :)

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it's so helpful :) I'll definitely have to give this a go!

  • Thank you for that. You have a wonderful voice :)

  • so happy u made this video!! :D

  • i gotta get me some of those brushes :D

  • 1:40 THE BRUSH IS MADE OF RUBBER!!!!

  • Im buying the spotter brushe online and wanted to know what size? don't have experience with them and can't test them out either. Thanks! very helpful :D happy new year!

  • @Geoff The spotter brush I have is a 3/0 or go for a size 0.

Honestly, I don't know a whole lot about the sizing of brushes, I'm self-taught and just go for what looks right. :-)

  • i just tried this, i fucked up and now i will never paint again.

  • Really cool. greetings from germany ;).

i would love to see more videos from you explaining the dry brush technique. pictures with other colors and step by step explanations ;)

  • Do we have that brand of paint brush here in the Philippines? :)

  • @MrMarcbenedict I have nooo idea whats available in the philippines. You could probably find it online and buy from there if its not in any stores.

But you dont need to use this brand. Any decent oil paint should do the trick :-)

  • Thanks a million x2!!!! I'm gonna experiment with this technique and possibly use it for my gcse final piece!!! :DDD

  • @cooledchr15 Hope it goes well!

  • Okay! I'll have to be very patient, but, let's try this!!

    -two minutes later-

    *Throws the brush away*

    AAAAAH! I'm just to impatient!!

  • @MathiAelitaGirl ME 2222!

  • @Nigro1998 you're welcome :)

  • Where did you buy the brushes? :-)

  • @TheSoulsify eek! Well, the white handled ones.... I got while I was in the states a while ago :-s Couldn't tell you where, but the brand is'Simply Simmons' and the blue handled ones I've had for years and years, they are Winsor&Newton - Cirrus, with Kolinsky Sable fibres.

  • wow i was wondering what medium was this for lifee. it kinda looked like charcoal but it was way too smoothloooking. thanks for the video, i want to try it now!

  • YAYYYYYYYYYY! finally somebody explained it in detail instead of doing speed painting ^^ thank youuu!

  • Thank you realy much! :D It really helped me out! ^^ XX

  • any suggestion for black color..coz i tried to use ivory black but when it comes to shading the shadows become yellowish.....

  • @sangreespanola15 Try Lamp Black? I would imagine the yellowish bit is the oil having seperated out from the paint :s

  • Thank you sooo much for taking the time to demonstrate this technique. I have been trying to find this method for ages.

  • @StepfordPunx you are very welcome :-)

  • i'll try it out.. ^^

  • you're brush look like bending... hehe.. but nice work. tnx for sharing..

  • i´m a begginner in art.but i have talent,.and i want to know what materials need to have in dry brushing..u can send it to me @am_pasia@yahoo.com hope that u can help me..thanks

  • @sangreespanola15 The first half of the video is about the materials :-s and I list them all again at 7:40

  • @BlueKittyCreations wow..but it's better if you shown it done.

  • Your awesome!

  • @jajajaja2006 hehe thanks

  • Thank you!!!!! Your video was so informative.

  • @cheterry17 You're very welcome ^_^

  • thanks 4 sharing dry brush technic ;) can u dry brush on canvas?

  • @angelfallls Haven't tried it on canvas, so dont know how it will work. But if you try it let me know how it goes :-p

  • Do you use a thinner?

  • @ScribbleShot Nope

  • wat's the name of the oil u use?

  • @TheRickiebobby Winsor&Newton Artisan oil colour

  • I'm trying the technique out now on sketching paper, but the paint seems to be drying out quite quickly and I can't seem to blend the colour very well; it seems more patchy. Do you use watercolour paper, and does that make a huge difference?

  • @GoldAirSummer What sort of paint are you using? I use a medium grain paper, which is what you would likely use for water colour. You dont want anything as smooth as normal paper, or printer paper.

  • @BlueKittyCreations I was using 95gr/65lbs sketching paper. I've just bought some 230gr, so hopefully that will help me. Regarding the paint, I used Winton oil colour paints the other day and they didn't quite work, so I've just bought some water mixable oil colour today, the same stuff you use. Hopefully I'll get better results! :)

  • I have looked everywhere trying to learn this technique. This is the best information on dry brushing portraits I have found anywhere so far! Thank you so much for taking the time to make a tutorial and sharing it!

  • Omg!!! Thanx alottt that was more then helpful

  • Hey thanks a lot for this tutorial Miss, you were very thorough :)

  • @raneanubis You are very welcome :-) I'm glad to help out

  • Interesting accent, where from?

  • @Sllvlloov Ah, well the accent is the result of an american living in belgium/denmark and now scotland for over half her life.

  • hi, i want to ask a question, why is that i can't erase the oil paint like yours using my kneaded eraser?thank u

  • @facedust07 My guess would be that you're putting too much paint on. If thats not it though, try a few different erasers. I actually use the hard eraser more than the kneading one.

  • @BlueKittyCreations thanks, i think i know now, i guess i need to add 2-3 drops of lubricant oil to the black oil paint, what kinda paper u use?

  • @facedust07 All the materials are explained in the tutorial :-s Just use a medium grain white 200gr paper. I couldnt tell you if its cold or hot pressed though :-s

  • no offense but u might have wanted 2 stop going on and on about each brush because i got bored and didnt watch the whole video

    peace

  • @tuclvr4u3 skip ahead then -_-

  • Now that is the way you make a tutorial.... THANK YOU!

  • @quickcope :-) I'm glad you liked it
