I'll be looking into Quake Live, but from what i've seen it's a bit different than Quake 2. Which is what I'll need to get used to.

Anyway I also play cod from time to time on ps3, but hardcore mods.I only have cod 4 though, since I'm fan of killzone a bit more. If you have any working pc even old one you may want to check out quakelive though. It's free game and it's amazing if you love old school fps games. It's a Q3 after all so it's very similar to Q2.

@sKarmA115 It used to be the filenames of the maps themselves, and are still often used in forums because they're easier to type, so widely that it spilled into spoken word.

(A somewhat recent update changed the filenames to their actual names in QL, though. DM6 became Campgrounds, DM17 became LongestYard, etc.)

They just want to make a statement about the gameplay quality of modern shooters compared to the absolute Zen quality of Quake 3 / Live. Quake challenges you to the bone. It penetrates the soul if you start training, thinking, playing, improving. But, hasn't it always been that there are different audiences for different games? Why thumb down CoD etc? @3Nex The graphics in quake live are excellent on the top settings, but no one uses those settings except for movies. If you want to play like that then go ahead and disadvantage yourself. But if you think we should crawl around and camp on huge outdoor maps with 15fps like some CoD shit, then you're playing the wrong game. @3Nex Yes, a person can have high graphic settings and play good quake. BUT playing on world-top level is another story though. Lowering the graphics gives you advantages. You see your opponent faster and better because there is less noise from the textures on the wall. The abscence of detaill also gives you a general higher focus on the gameplay elements (how long untill this or that, where is my opponent, etc) instead of going "whow nice wall!". Also it just looks/moves smoother on screen.

Lastly: this is coming from a decent Quake player who now quit the game (RSI issues) and instead enjoys a little off-season League of Legends (yes...) because of school. Quake was taking too much energy both mentally and physically for me personally..

@mogwai142 They use high picmip for the streaming quality. With low picmip (high detail) the entire image will be pixelated because the amount of detail changing so rapidly will fuck the image up. They need solid coloured walls to make the stream smooth. So yeah it DOES need tweaking for watching.

Of course you can watch demos (and play the game) with low picmip (high detail), but as soon as you need to STREAM the game it will look blurry and pixelated if you stream with full detail (unless you have a HUGE upload who can send all the information). Most do not have this required upload and therefore they are forced to use solid walls for the stream to look decent.

I don't know how much upload is required to stream in 720p with full detail without the image gets pixelated (remember that the pace of quake is a lot higher than many other games) I just know that many streamers use picmip for this purpose.

Also 15 mbit upload is also not very common in most contries.

Your comment doesn't make sense to me. Games don't enter and stay in big esport competitions just because they are good competitive games. Q3 was replaced with Q4 when it came out, then Q4 went away and QL revived the interest to Q3 gameplay, but now it's fading. Games need to have popularity to stay in esports, like CS, LoL and Starcraft. LoL isn't proved to be balanced yet, but already it is the most popular esport now.
