  • @MrDeludedPenguin Its a dev blog from alpha. Obviously the animations need work but the devs have took what alot of players currently do in aoc and other fps melee games and intergrated it into the game.

  • So why is there only 3 basic attacks and not four like MnB? No left to right swing, only right to left? =(

  • @FLAMEUGT three basic, varied per weapon with the ability to angle or aim those 3 attacks, so each attack is aimable in 3 dimensions. Theres also other attacks like charge attacks and kicks and bashes.

  • ADD KICKS TO THE GAME. Chivalry is going to be a popular game, similar to MnB Warband, so please don't screw this up. )

  • @tallset2 its not silly, u can jump in the game, and the player can swing at your legs to try to evade your block. Blocking has to be aimed so to speak, so if you see a guy swinging low to get around blocks, you could jump instead of blocking low and counter attack.

  • @tallset2 seems in this game that and dodges and blocking are your options. IRL i would turn and run away really fast if an armored guy attacked me with a sword. to each his own i guess!

  • People and their comments. Swear the people with the biggest gripes have never done any modeling/animation. Then try getting all that over to a game engine. It's not easy guys, give them a break. Remember it says alpha footage. Great start, hope to see a lot more.

  • This isn't a new mele idea... In both Elder Scrolls: Arena and Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, you control the direction of your mele swing with the mouse. It's a good idea, and I wish more games would use it, but it's not new by any means.

  • @plaguesofwrath the new part is that after you execute a swing you can still control its path of travel during the swing. Blocking works the same, if the attack angles high, the blocker must then meet the attack by agling the block higher too. If you block low on an upward moving horizontal slash you will 'miss' the block and get hit.

  • Awesome. Oh, and the sand looks out of place. It has wind trails like the desert sand. Arena sand wouldn't have that kind of wind trails, or trails at all. Yes I know the game is not finished yet, it just caught my eye. I like everything else tho. lol

  • I actually think the swing speed should be slowed slightly, and that sketchy dodge mechanic removed.

  • @SuperOnasi I agree with slowing down the swing speed. I'd say the dodge mechanic should stay, but as a ducking movment to avoid swinging attacks.

  • @igorbog88 Dodging/running away made the Man at Arms the most annoying class to face in Age of Chivalry. He could just run into your fully armored knight, stab 0.5 centimeters of his sword into your armor, take off one third of your health and run back undamaged.

  • The idea of combat is very similar to actual Mortal Online melee combat, is quite the same idea... in mortal the alpha was almost the same:

    Great graphic, great rendering, great movements...then they tried to put players togheder in the game and they realized that is impossible for an Mmorpg..

  • The guys at Taleworlds that made Mount & Blade could learn some valuable lessons from this.

  • Nice! Reminds me of the arena matches in Oblivion, but with far better graphics and flying barrels! BTW you should include a training mode where this angry fat instructor bloke chucks barrels at you to hone your reflexes, and rage screams every time he lobs one. If you deflect a barrel back at him, he starts giving you death threats and you unlock a hidden mode or something, barrel match LMAO.

  • @lefandeM probably, this looks like a clone of m&b combat. the double tap dodges and jump/duck almost made me jizz but they didnt mention if its possible to feint or hold attacks or chamber etc cus without that it's too dull when it's almost impossible to fail a parry. m&b also has kicks wich are rly nice.

  • @bilwit No basically this is the better version of Age of Chivarly which is better than mount and blade in the combat department. Age of Chiv has a stamina bar and recoil when you are blocked unlike in spamfest warband.

  • @bilwit NO! AGE OF CHIVALRY WAS OUT LONG BEFORE MOUNT AND BLADE. This is the full game, which is based off the mod Age of Chivalry. Warband is a spam fest, this requires timing and managing your stamina.

  • @CounterSteakSauce They don't have separate 3rd and 1st person rigs for the characters.. So, for gameplay purposes they need to keep the head still.

  • Definatly looks more intense than AoC. Finally no more rapid-fire-block-anything heavy knight parries.

    have no sound as I watch this but from what I'm seeing your speaking about how swinging horizonatlly vs stabbing vs vertical swing is now about more than just damage and speed, you've made it so that to get around blocks and parries you have to choose your swings carefully. Meaning this game has a much sharper learning curve than AoC. I hope you have a single player mode or tutorial 4 this

  • For the dodging by double tap keys, walking rly fast suddenly, I hope it costs a lot of stamina. Easy to abuse such stuff.

  • It would be more realistic if they hold longer swords with 2 hands. Swords are really heave, and to swing them like that you need 2 hands. The only reason not to use 2 hands is when you have a shield, and then you would probably carry a shorter sword anyway.

  • @RoelBartstra Those are broadswords, which were not meant to be used by both hands. They also have two handed sword, just not show casing them here.

    Looks like broadswords and a cutlass/falchion. The game is still in alpha, i'm guessing we will see more classes and weapons and shields in these blogs as we move forward.

  • @RoelBartstra It's not truth. Bigger swords are not better. They are heavier and thus you get tired faster. Plus, you are helpless at short distances. Anyone who is faster and has shorter sword can easily kill you. Obviously, longer swords are allowing you to keep your enemy at the distance but that's why mankind invented polearms. Big swords were never popular. They are usually about 1 to 1,5m long to keep their weight at 1 to 3kg level. Anything above is not handy at all.

    Soldiers whom could wield great swords were paid more than than regular soldiers. They were used against cavalry before the invention of pole-arms, you could call them their fore-fathers, so yes, they were really popular.

  • @varfare I didn't say bigger swords are better, I just thought that some of the swords look very heavy and to swing it with one hands is hard in real life. If you swing it with 2 arms your attack will be more powerful, if you hold it as a defens with 2 arms, you can hold it steadier. But I'm not an expert at this, but now it looks a little like fencing.
