Does the DM need to know where they are going, yes, and I give the DM a lot of credit for that, as far as everyone else, it's follow the leader.
@jamesthatcher79, you are wrong. Script Ohio may look like a follow the leader, but it is not. There specific measured steps for each part. Every member of TBDITL is tested to see if they know their script counts so that if mistake occurs in front of them, they will be able to instantly fix it. In fact, any member of the band could theoretically lead the band. Also, the "flips" are called horn flashes, and take months to perfect. Bandsmen must be able to play through them, and do it very quick.
There are so many great traditions in college football. It's arrogant to state one as being superior to another. The script Ohio, and the dotting of the "I" is a beautiful sight, regardless of who your favorite team is. @cedarfreak55 that's a great talking point. it's wrong, but we'll set that fact aside while we analyze michigan's traditions: 1) the winged helmet...stolen from princeton, who used it for over a decade before fritz crisler brought it to um. 2) michigan stadium...the structure of which is a virtual exact copy of the yale bowl. 3) the "m go blue" banner...stolen from virtually every high school using the same sort of thing by the '60s. 4) the victors...is just a really non-interesting fight song.

@dchstrumpet As far as diamond Ohio goes, I admit that was something an old timer from the 110 told me, I looked at my dads old OSU stuff and saw the old record and thought the story sounded credible, since I'm wrong I apologize for that. More or less, we have some fantastic college bands here in Ohio, and I'm personally just sick and tired of OSUMB thinking they're the best. I'd put the 110, UCMB, UT RMB, or hell even BGSU(cks) FMB in the running for best band in Ohio alone.

@Takaheemuranastope Script is a nice follow the leader drill (but at the end of the day, it's follow the leader), Diamond OHIO is a cool drill depending on what your coming out of - either way you have to start both (or at least that's the only way I've seen Diamond OHIO done (I know script (as it's follow the leader) has to start this way) from a bock formation, which is really rather boring. I mean if you had a company front and then started Script, that would be at least a little different.

Diamond Ohio has been around for a long time, maybe even before either band thought to use it. The 110 do it more often, but diamond Ohio is on part of the uniform of TBDBITL. Does the DM need to know where they are going, yes, and I give the DM a lot of credit for that, as far as everyone else, it's follow the leader.

@jamesthatcher79, you are wrong. Script Ohio may look like a follow the leader, but it is not. There specific measured steps for each part. Every member of TBDITL is tested to see if they know their script counts so that if mistake occurs in front of them, they will be able to instantly fix it. In fact, any member of the band could theoretically lead the band. Also, the "flips" are called horn flashes, and take months to perfect. Bandsmen must be able to play through them, and do it very quick.

There are so many great traditions in college football. It's arrogant to state one as being superior to another. The script Ohio, and the dotting of the "I" is a beautiful sight, regardless of who your favorite team is. @cedarfreak55 that's a great talking point. it's wrong, but we'll set that fact aside while we analyze michigan's traditions: 1) the winged helmet...stolen from princeton, who used it for over a decade before fritz crisler brought it to um. 2) michigan stadium...the structure of which is a virtual exact copy of the yale bowl. 3) the "m go blue" banner...stolen from virtually every high school using the same sort of thing by the '60s. 4) the victors...is just a really non-interesting fight song.

@challengerx10 princeton came up with the "see the receivers" thing. fritz crisler took the idea when he switched from coaching at princeton to mich. princeton started using it around 1930...it's certainly a ripoff job that mich started using it in '38. nice try, but in typical um fashion your arrogance trumps your wisdom. ps...believe me (i'm an architect) cramming 110,000 code-violating seats into a hole in the ground is not a triumph. it's neither hard nor creative. stop bragging about it.
