I lived in N.O. in the 70's and remember the Who-dat chant even when just about everyone "beat dem Saints." Now, from my lair in Minnesota, it's great to see that turned around. Gaux Saints!
The "Who Dat" chant started in Patterson, Louisiana. The chant was used for the Patterson High Lumberjacks "Who Dat say they gonna beat them Jacks." My dad played for Franklin High back in the late 70s and he said that Patterson was doing the chant when he played against them.
@silentthunda35 ok decided to look it up and the Bengals have had the chant since 1981 when they went on a winning streak in which they won every game by 2 tds or more. Bengals had the chant first, all the Saints fans did was change to letters in the chant and called it their own

Only if you're from east Texas. Even then, many people would still consider that the mid-west. But as for me, being from northwest Louisiana, I consider Dallas to be the south. Houston too. But anything to the west of Houston or the north of Dallas, then that's not the south. That would be more like the great plains, the midwest,the dessert, Mexico, whatever you want to call it. Call it what you want, but it ain't the South.

Make sure you go do some research before you pretend to know something, i hope this helped everybody else confused..

@2jmilligan it was a chant used by Southern Jags in the 60's, when Saints started winning in the 80's the ol'e fans redid that Southern Jag "Who dat say they gonna be them Jags" to the Saints.. So the chant is older than the Saints however it was created in Louisiana however there was an older folk song in the 50's southern University Jags took even the "Who Dat" from, however the credit for using it as a fight song should go to Southern University Jags.. it's a Saints Chant now though.

@nagromretnuh I can tell you where it started. It was St. Augustine H.S. They started using the term in the early 80's then around 1987, I think, Aaron Neville along with a couple other people used it in a song and the term has been used ever since.

The "who dat" saying originated in Patterson, Louisiana because my aunt told me how some dude Dalton something at Patterson High in 1970 at football games used to say "who dat said dey gon' beat dem jacks" and then the dude went to college and his family used that chant for the team he played on and the phrase spread from then. And the bengals copied from the saints because they started saying "Who dey".
