  • Im more of a Garfunkel fan but Paul owns this song

  • In spite of all the "orchestration" that went into the albums, Paul and Art were always at their best with just one acoustic guitar, beautifully constructed harmonic lines to seemingly simple melodies, and their passion for the sound they made. They are so young in this video. And then there's Papa John introducing them to the audience. Magic!

  • In 1967 on a bus from Chicago head'in back to Dixie I was glad to be Homeward Bound

  • so glad my dad made me listen to them when i was young. damn they are so good.

  • paul is realling enjoying it, u can really see it ^^

great song by an great band :D

  • Beautiful! every time.

  • Beautiful then and now~~~

  • I love how Simon walked to the stage, like he was thinking "We're gonna kick some ass right now". Brilliant song.

  • If you wanted a performance that summed up the 1960s, you couldn't do better than this.

  • Sssoooo young !!!

  • Perfect in every way...

  • Absolute genius.

  • I love this song. Every time that I hear it it becomes stuck in my head.

Did anyone notice how both of the top comments have "shit" in their usernames? haha

  • @thefatassunicorn Obviously you don't care for the music if you're commenting on the artist's name.

  • Memories come flooding back. What talent's;lyrics, composition, sounds and harmonies, wow.Bought the album when it came out. Them where the days when there was no bridge over troubled waters!

  • there harmony is pulchritudinous. look it up.

  • @sickwickert doesn't make sense with the sentence...

  • Brother lots of feelings but you did that in a very special way. 'nuf said..Cheers Batshitcool!!

  • OH. MY. GOD. I LOVE IT! ♥

  • I would really love to hear Justin Bieber sing this song ( Homeward Bound ); I think he could do a good job.

  • I realy hate the era I was born into 2011 sucks ass cant wait to die

  • @Blumenauer45 It gets better around 2034.

  • paul simon wrote this song on the platform of Widnes Railway Station between Manchester and Liverpool

  • @graham212red Was going to say that and you beat me too it!!!! They spent time in the north west of England touring working mens clubs and stuff before they returned to the states and hit the big time : )

  • Too bad that incestuous pig from the mommas and the poppas had to introduce them!

  • Saw Paul Simon a coupla years ago at the Orange County Fair (CA, not FL) and he was amazing. Wish I could have seen both, singing in harmony.

  • The sound quality is awesome!

  • Sing it boy's....!

  • are they both jewish?

  • my mother used to sing me this as i went to bed when i was a baby

  • 48th dislike

  • It is a song that relates to a lot of us,..the songs from the sixties seem to be a kind of teaching or comfort,..thank you Simon and Garfunkel for the beautiful words and music.

  • Check out Nemo Shaw's acoustic version of 'The Sound of Silence' out today.

  • I wish I was Homeward Bound!!!

  • Paul Simon is one of the most genius singer song writers in the world.

  • i think i was born in the wrong year,i missed all this, what a shame, to see this live would av been fab.they just dont make like they used to.

  • Paul Simon's pickin style on the guitar is a masterclass on it's own.

  • reminds me of when i was 8 years old

  • Comment removed

  • Garfunkel still looks the same!

  • True geniuses to harmonize for minutes at a time and play guitar

  • Very good Simon and Garfunkel Cover you can find at:

    graceland-online.de

  • what geniuses at work! the shit that is x factor, american idol,britain/americas got talent,SIMON COWELL. THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL TALENT NOT SOME MADE UP TV PROGRAMME WANNABE POP STAR,INVEST YOU MONEY INTO SONGWRITERS AND MUSICIANS SEE HOW MUCH MORE RESPECT YOU WILL GET FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As a musician I've been playing guitar for over 30 years, but about ten years ago I took up the home organ. They are abundant on craigs list and can be had even for free. I just got a 1981Hammond Elegante for $150. In 1981 the organ cost over $12,500.My point is this, you really can develop new tastes in music simply by trying a little. We live in a time when this is very easy to do. Since making & listening to my play lists 'Organ Tunes even Organ Haters will love!' I can hear finer details.

  • homeward bound-Hobart Tasmania, it offers pristine wilderness, memories, family and friends

  • so in love with this song

  • widnes railway station

  • Holy Shit!

  • Paul is so small and his guitar is so big...

  • Talent in a Very large Truck.

  • ♥ LOVE

  • and i am thank god xxx

  • In the US Army in '67 - on a train in Germany - looking out of the window - thinking of this one. Still get same lonesome feeling when I hear it. S&G did all they did in their own special way. 'nuf said.

  • @Batshitcool I had the exact same experience in Gelnhausen in '69. Two years later, I got out headed home to California, listening to this on my portable reel-to-reel. Perfect!

  • Papa John looks like he's from the control deck of the Enterprise. Am I dating myself? Hope so.

  • Lovely gentlemen, lovely performance.

  • Reminds me of two buskers playing this on the steps of the Sacre Coeur in Paris.

  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge again and flourish. Go to TruthContest (dot) com and read The Present to learn the truth.

  • how come perfection don't get the attention it deserves? Who talks about this song these days?

  • @60sisthashit im 23 and love this song, introduced to it by my parents, and whenever i have kids im gonna introduce it to them, along with all the modern music that will be old by then. gotta keep the love alive!

  • @60sisthashit Forget being talked about, it needs to be played and sung. sing it every chance it fits and you'll do it justice

  • @60sisthashit you should listen to some liam clancy or the dubliners if you like Garfunkle and Simon. (garfunkle had the voice)

  • @60sisthashit Quite a few people, actually. Dont worry, S&G hasn't died off.

  • Great Song!!!

  • Man, that was great. And you can tell Paul feels it, especially in between lines.

  • Great footage. Fantastic quality.

  • When I watch this, my immediate thought is Bert and Ernie...but technically it's more like Big Bird and Ernie haha

  • one of the best tunes i've ever heard

  • Everyday's an endless stream

    Of cigarettes and magazines

And each town looks the same to me

    The movies and the factories

And every stranger's face I see

Reminds me that I long to be

    Homeward bound

  • @smadden. exactly! But the sad thing is you can have a house but not that mental construct of a home.

  • Well said kokosz!!!

  • pure talent. No as shaking negro girls

    just talent

  • Denny Doherty!

  • was a kid growin up.. a fren n me wud sit along and sing this one...

it has my school days and the love stories...

  • Man... Listen to all that autotuning. Oh wait, these guys ACTUALLY have talent.

    Love these two in action.

  • 42 homesick people who wish they were homeward bound watched this vid.

  • 1967 was the year i was born had to believe that this song is that old i think Simon & Garfunkel are timeless the song is still great all these years.

  • timeless

  • OMG! They were just kids then!

  • @Hallaran We all were. Now, I'm grateful that I can go back and listen again, thanks to the internet. (aka - My Time Machine)

  • @jollyrogerent :-)

  • Fantastic was then and still is, thanx for posting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • art still has got lot of hair :D cute

  • Oh. My. God. I've seen a lot of S&G on YouTube, alot of wonderful stuff. Great versions of The Boxer and Homeward Bound, etc. But this absolutely is THE BEST. Their youth, their harmony, even the camera angles, make this perfection to me.

May Art's voice get better so they can tour at least one more time.

  • @sassyreggae so true

  • @sassyreggae what happened to his voice?

  • @NANDO218

he has some medical condition affecting it -- can't remember exact diagnosis. He has postponed their planned tour twice. Btw, just saw Paul Simon in Berkeley, and he is wonderful by himself, but S&G, well. . . . that's another story.

  • Brilliant melding of voices-why i love these two and their music

  • 40 people aren't "deaf", they are abject m.orons

  • Great video. Guys, i made a cover of this song, from a fan to another. Please listen: ?v=cM6VQGf6G3U

  • daniel brou

  • close werent I m8

  • wasn,t this song written in a waiting room at a northern railway station

  • @lindsay3640 yeah in widnes

  • daniel brou is better quite frankly.

  • written in Widnes, glad to be from there :D

  • Home to me (whilst sat in Dallas Airport) is Deeping St. Nicholas! But what a great song. I love S&G. JK.

  • Sublime.

  • i love this song....

    though i'm a guy of this era..,i love the music of 60s n 70s...

    beautiful....

  • That is how leet my experience watching this was....

  • Wow.

  • Some times i feel bad not excepting this 21 centry but the 60s were just amazing times only great clothes amazing singers like simon and garfunkel .I except everyone has their own different kinds of music they like to listen to it's just that i wish their were more great poets today like their were 60s 70s ..:) but every thing haves to change i guess.:)..

  • @SuperPeace191 I completely agree with you! I'm not even twenty yet, and I feel like all the music of this century is nothing compared to the 60s and 70s. (With a few exceptions. Brandi Carlile anyone? Her band does a great version of Sound of Silence, it's so powerful, it's almost spooky!) I love S&G, The Beatles and Elton John. Queen's good, too. :)

  • They are so amazing! I feel sad that I wasn't a part of their rise to fame. I would have loved to be there from the beginning..

  • In sanskirt..you call your husband or wife"home" when I am with the one I LOVE and I am resting my head on HIS chest I AM HOME I have always used that expression, even before I knew the etiology of it..It ONLY makes sense HOME!!! :)

  • I didn't know Cossacks doubled as announcers.

  • This is good

  • this is goog

  • wow this is singing!! the harmony is wonderful!!!!

  • this should have 15 million views... not a million >:(

  • to Francois January 1986 on a Brighton bus station...

  • 40 people are deaf.........

  • one of the most overlooked performances at the monterey pop festival.

  • Still homeward bound. A good fireplace, Mom's cooking, great friends and family. And for any of you hacker losers that try to find people out of town, I have hired 6'5 NFL players with pit bulls to guard my house. They will eat you for breakfast, ha, ha. Get a life!

  • Amazing work from those two. I'd put their lyric content up against any of the hot new artists we have right now any day. And they'd win, hands down.

  • @UjjijjU ha ha ha ha lame

  • @Marjorine420 crane.

  • @UjjijjU

listen again to your justin bieber

  • They were both so young.. Man, what a talent they have!!!!!!!!!! Real music!

Is it just me, or was Garfunkel just soo cute and handsome, when he was young?

Well, they were both handsome, but there's just something about Garfunkel in hes younger days..

  • @LinaLoveHerGuitar couldnt agree more. garfunkel was sooo cute!

  • great video i must say!

  • Yeah, that's they guy who slept with his daughter. Wish they could edit him out of this otherwise beautiful video.

  • Is it me or did simon and garfunkel take every song from davey graham and fiddled with it? Not bad though, makes me play somewhere 'in the middle' of both. Back them it was all about the music, that's something I miss a lot these days.

  • Is that George Harrison introducing them??????

  • @kathy4teaching

nooo is John Phillips from mamas & the pappas

  • For many people, there comes a time where home is more of a mental construct than a physical location.

  • @smadden666 So, so, so very true.

  • @smadden666 wrong. Itr is a feeling.

  • @robertamay70 "Mental construct" and "feeling" are in the same ballpark.

  • @louiejack6 right

  • @smadden666 The true definiton of home. There may also come a time where homelessness means the absence of that mental contruction

  • @smadden666 exactly as an ex soldier this song was played regularly in our barracks. not because it was popular at the time i joined up in 1988. because it evokes thoughts of home, i pray for our troops in afghanistan, i really hope they take hope from whatever song they happen to be playing.god speed lads come home safe.respect to you all

  • @smadden666 I`m shure you are right and I don`t want to be respectless, but I think to be a bit home phisicly, is also not so worse. One day I like to be a happy old grandma. Maybe fat but friendly, shaking a lot kids on my knees and having sex twice a day- MINIMUM! Just joing the small fun in life.

  • @smadden666 Ain't it more about people around to hug :)

...speaking as a strict vagabond ;)

  • Written in Widnes - no wonder Paul was dreaming of getting home!!!

  • One of their absolute best songs.

  • wow...how nice. people were actually respectful and listened to music back in the day. wish that were still the case. now everyone is too busy updating their facebook status at a concert. sad. i was born in the wrong time period.

  • One of the greatest songs of all time...:D

  • They sure have the turtleneck thing going on in this video...

Paul Simon is an incredible poet and their voices together just mesmerizes me. One of my "must see" bands in my bucket list.

  • My home is a small island in the caribean where I lived for over 2 years. I will never see that peace again in my life while I am on this earth.

  • everytime i hear this song i go back to long roadtrips with my dad...i almost remember him singing the song more than paul and art

  • I was 17 when my friend and I would jump on our motor scooters on Friday night to go camping down the coast from our home town Edinburgh in Scotland, we pitched the tent , drank beer and went scouting for girls , this song was played time after time on our old transistor radio along with many of the other fabulous songs of that time but it was this one i loved the most and it brings back great memories of my teenage years every time I hear it, thank you simon and Garfunkel.

  • @alove170 Suprised you didnt freeze to death

  • @mrmagicroundcircle I know, Scotland is not the warmest place on earth, but we took advantage of our 3 week long summer , before the icy conditions came back, we were young enough and too interested in girls to worry about the cold ,LOL all the best and merry xmas.

  • @alove170 great story!

  • @alove170 As the man said, it's the soundtrack of our lives...

  • @adeefeinstein this was the same year as whiter shade of pale by procul harem, and many more fabulous sounds , so it wasn't an easy choice but as you say, music is the soundtrack of our lives, so many memories .

  • @alove170 thanks alot for sharing your memories with us :)

  • @emericanchaos , it is nice to know so many people found my little, but happy reflection of my past interesting, thank you for your kind words .

  • @alove170 thats what music is all about...

  • @ldhorricks music takes us through all the human emotions, from dancing with joy, memories of lost love, special times in our lives to reflective sadness, so you are right when you say , that's what music is all about.

  • Jumpin' German Jesus! John looks sober!

  • to mary spinker, Gods people arent supposed to fit in down here

  • How old are they in here? They look so young. Especially Paul Simon.

  • The height of the VIETNAM WAR

  • this is music. real artists. real talents real instruments. this is my MTV

  • Oh they were both sooo CUTE !

  • Beautiful song

  • I LOVE THIS SONG BUT WHAT'S SCARY FOR SOME OF US IS THERE IS NO HOME TO BE BOUND FOR. SOME OF US DON'T BELONG HERE. God help me.

  • @maryspinker gods people arent supposed to fit in down here.

  • I love your music - vids, really excellent stuff !!! Go on like this !!!
