Love the artwork, even the drone looks cool and I am not a fan of them. Feels a bit cheap they leave the slots for wings and chest piece : ( Great review as usual.
The original design for this trooper was a communication trooper, with earmuffs or rather headphones and WO II look a like communication backpacks. Then, the art department figured out that all the other troopers just had antennas for communication which worked nicely.The project was abandoned but the earmuffs still remaided (As said in one of the clonewars questions answerd by Dave Filoni)

I thought the muffs on the clone was expeimental communication equipment, because he doesn't have the clone helmet fin. The fin on the basic clone helmet is meant for communication.
