  • what u use? PICK or Fingers? and why?

  • Pick is great for certain styles, you get a different tone and attack with the pick, take Chris Squire for example, or Cliff Burton, or even Scott thunes on some Zappa tracks. But all bass players should def be able to do fingerstyle without a doubt. I think the more versatile you can be as a bassist the better. Having many assets to your tonal arsenal is a good thing when used appropriately.

  • wonderful ,it's very nice, Great keep the good work thanks for uploading , i've learned a lot ..

  • nice video, thanks

  • @365subz

Bruce dickinson is a singer, what does he even have to do with bass?

    You probably mean Steve Harris.

  • please somebody kill this idiot before somebody thinks al this crap is really technique...no no no, you dont know anithing about this instrument

  • @365subz nd tht could b the reason why many ppl prefer finger [oh and yeah with finger you can gallop, slap, pop ect idk if you can do those with pick, mayb gallop but te rest, nah]

imo if your playin with pick or finger depends on your style and calling some1 a noob cause of the persons preference of playin with a pick is NOT smart or cool and don't forget respect the habits of others cause an idiot like you can learn from them,ok? :) let me leave you with a litle saying: where equal, but not alike

  • @365subz ok part 2 now!

first of all fuck you cause your wastin alot of my time and i don't think tht a shit like u deserves the work of writing these comments! ,l,,(>_<),,l,

now playing any instrument means making music and there are so many shades when it comes to sound , pick gives you a 'sharp' tone and many styles of music like punk, alternative rock, grunge and mayb nu metal could not be played with fingers cause there more guitar influenced and fingers give you a more soft and bassy sound

  • @365subz "Alex webster, bruce dickinson, me!" that sounded like , you list yourself as one of those awesome bassits! >_>

why don't prove that your worthy to be listed next to those ppl by uploading a vid of you playing bass? now lets get down to commenting your 1st sentence! well if you think that, than noob is something what i would call you! let me justify actually your not alone! playing with a pick isn't considered as a practial technique wich is a pitty! i need another comment 2 say why soz

  • c'mon everybody

why u don't try to play them both

for me i was playing with pick at first and now i play with fingers

    nothin wrong with pick

    FIND URSELF !!!!!

oh and plz turn that shit on and start practicing ,don't waste ur time empty minds

  • how do you like the schecter custom?

  • Pick in a bass technique video? Sacrilege!

  • for me is ok! I learn more here than in other parts where people teach from "the highs of their heaven" as master bass players.

    thank you, sincerely! :)

  • get some vids then talk shit

  • yeah, paul mccartney, john entwistle and crhis squire are noobs

    moron

  • Oh that's real encouraging and nice. Calling people fags, fruits, and fairies. Aren't we in the 21st century, past all this ignorant hate and immaturity? If you think you're a real bass pro because you hate on picks, you're wrong. As a bass community, we have to tolerate each others playing styles and encourage and share ideas, not being immature jerks. I personally play with fingers all the time but it's stupidly unreasonable to call people who play with a little plastic thing 'fags'.

  • I have to mediate here I guess. Picks suck for bass. but don't make people fags... everyone happy?

  • Thank you for mediating :)

'Pick suck for bass' is a subjective thing, but... whatever floats your boat, 'bassisbeast1'.

  • Tell that to Anthony Jackson,Steve Swallow,Carole kaye, and Paul McCartney, some of the best that have ever lived.Fugging Dickbrain thou bist.HAhahahah,

  • different turf calls for different weapons

  • what ? go home and practise...

  • i got the same schecter

  • Yep. Even Flea...

  • love the bass, hate the pick

  • That fret buzz is getting on my f'ing nerves!!!

  • Why is it so strong in this and the other bass video? Low amplification giving a high ratio of useless unamplified sounds?

  • Is that a Fodera bass??

  • schecter dummie =D

  • Why do you even call you a teacher! You should start getting a teacher, and start some serious training. CAUSE YOU SUCK MAN!

  • Flea, vic, stu, ed, jaco, billy, cliff, all pickless. Ring finger is stupid to use unless you're using it to play extremely fast triplets, slow triplets should be played with index and middle. And please play more toward the bridge with your fingers where the strings are more taught cuz it sounds like shit... Are you even a bass player????

  • Using the ring finger can help to play more evenly with any combination of notes. With two fingers you have to move both of the quickly to play simple eighth note rhythms with a third finger it can be easier for some to play more relaxed at the higher rate of those types of notes. As for where you pluck the strings it is up to you, you can get different tones from different places, and pickups are just convenient to rest your thumb on as well.

  • I wanted a custom musicman with the pickup more towards the fretboard so i can rest my thumb on it and get a punchier sound easier.

  • picks...i use picks when i want a to sound like a post hardcore guitar player but i always use my ring finger.

  • @Benayrsty "Slow triplets should be played with index and middle". <-- Says who? Oh, and ring finger can be used to play constant 16th note patterns too for faster speeds.

  • Can you teach right hand technique without a pick? i.e. playing with fingers not slap :D thanks.

  • B E A D G

  • i have the same bass as this guy lol

  • theres no point in playing bass with a plectrum. bass guitar comes from double bass, which you wouldnt play with a plectrum. Its not inherently faster to play with a pick, more of the really fast 'bass shredders' play with their fingers, & the sound of your bass being cutting & well defined is more to do with the freshness of your strings & your EQ than whether you use a pick or fingers.

  • Pick- Look, most players star playing guitar because of popular music which a lot of popular bass players use a pick. Since a lot of players still use a pick I feel like I should include how to use it.

  • A lot of new electric bass players could care less about double basses (sad but it's the fact) these lessons are mainly targeted at new players who want to play the music they listen to a maybe with some friends, they are not targeted to music theory and technique nazi's. So as long as bass players in popular music are still using a pick I'll keep teaching about it. sorry if you think I'm arguing, I'm just letting you know where I stand.

  • no its OK man, Id rather you put across your points in an intelligent way like that than hollering abuse. :)

  • Yeah, Youtube is filled with nonsense anymore.

  • but y would u try and have these kids make the same mistake of just playing root notes with a pick and what not? almost all bass players in music nemore are crap there are only a handful out there and some arent even known

  • this guy is teachning poor technique. its not a case of 'if you feel more comfortable just downstroking, do it', this is just encouraging beginners to be lazy. if you only use downstrokes, youll get to a certain speed & then be unable to go much faster without hurting yourself.

  • When players just start out it is easier and more natural to play down strokes with a pick. I agree you can only play up to a certain speed with only downstrokes, and because of that I can ONLY HOPE that players can figure out to use alternate picking when they are ready. However, I wouldn't call this bad technique,

  • I agree!

  • YOU CAN BEAT OFF TO THE SOUND OF MY DRUM!! A rhumba Tum tum

  • "The almighty pick, it's a little triangular piece of plastic, and for bass you probably wanna get rid of it and start using your fingers"

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with playing a pick if you're into what it is, but from my point of view encouraging pick playing is like encouragin children to take up smoking.

  • Bass guitar technique for garage band metal and punk, for guitar center geeks. It's obvious your no bass player, stick to electric guitar.

  • why would you teach some bad slap technique?

  • mal empregado baixo

  • bai pa kasa ho krl tu nem baixo sabes tokar .... pakeke tas aa' a finjir k es professor s nem amador tu e's

    po krl

    morre, suicida-te

    boi do krl

  • Nice Schecter.
