@faithson I'm certainly not lazy, but with a solid white, Long haired Turkish Angora its hard to keep it's hair off my furniture........ not to mention that I wear mostly dark clothing. As for it being sickening to shave a cat, well.... do you get hair cuts? If you do, Don't ever cut your hair again!!!! It would be sickening!!!!

@dbattleo7 we have two black cats and one is like an Angora. We brush the long hair cat every day and never see his hair on anything. He takes Laxatone and never gets hairballs. Neither cat is allowed in bedrooms or on sofas. We keep protective cloths (towels) on all the chairs. The long hair also serves to keep the cat cool in summer, warm in winter. It likely protects him from dirt, disease and injuries. We have no doubt that shaving his beautiful fur would do more harm than good.

it's probably an ANDIS clipper, one of the best on the market. Yes, a 10 blade...I do have to groom/clip my cat twice a year; it cuts down on the hair all over your house too, plus the kitty feels a hell of a lot better.

For the record of all the horrible trollers, hot weather can kill long hair cats. They matt a hell of a lot faster and easier and shed so much, let alone all the extra heat they keep in, that shaving them at the start of summer is the only humane thing to do.

To the people who don't understand why this is being done: There may be times in a owner / breeder's lives that can make the daily care difficult. As for myself, I'm going away for the hospital, and I will stay for an entire month. My husband won't have time to take the furs, and I so much prefer to come home to happy cats, than cats that are all matted and sad. BTW: They love being shaved!!

she is simply showing the proper way to shave a cat. A cats skin is a lot different from a dogs. Dogs have thick skin so to speak, but a cats is very very thin and will cut very very easily. She holds the cat up like that to stretch the skin. Some owners don't brush their long haired cats enough so they end up getting matted, which is why the cats get shaved. So calm down. Its all for sanitary and health reasons. The groomer is not hurting the cat what so ever. She is being very gentle.

Sometimes it is necessary to shave cats.

For instance, My mother-in-law adopted a cat that came with really bad knots that had to be shaved off.

Another instance: She has a really old, obese, diabetic arthritic cat that cannot clean her own behind and therefore she gets big clumps of,...poop on her butt that don't come off, so it is necessary 2 shave!

Long haired cats get bad knots in their fur which can be really painful for them and they need to be shaved or well groomed, removing the knots really makes their skin feel a lot better, think of it as having tightly tied knots in your hair and having it feel like its being pulled 24 hours a day. Thats how long haired cats feel when they get knots and thats why it is a good idea to remove the knots.

If the cat scraches when you touch it, the cat is in pain. If the cat isn't cooperating with you when you try to shave, take the cat to the vet, because the vet will give a mild sedative, and shave the fur on the tail off. Matting hurts, and no wonder it scratches when you're touching it. Good luck to you & cat!

This video was EXTREMELY helpful. .I bought the Conair Dog Grooming kit for about $35 at Target. My kitty is 17 years old. She has arthritis and can't preen herself anymore. I gave her CATNIP .Also, do it where your cat feels safe, isn't around other pets/children/distractions, and a not in a cold room. I put a puppy training pad"on the floor in case of any accidents. She is THRILLED that all that matted hair is gone! Purr city!

You don't lift a cat completly off the ground (or table). She kept its feet on the table so all the pressure wasn't on its scruff. Holding it still with the scruff is actually one of the least stressful ways to restrain a cat. But you shouldn't do it with persians because he skin around their eyes can pull back enough to pop the eyes out.

I think it is good idea to show people how to handle their cat. Most people think if you stop and pet it and try and calm them down. Then go back to shaving it creats more stress on the cat. It is better to do it fast like what you are doing. People don't realize how scratched up you can get if you don't handle them that way. Thanks for the video.
