You forgot to mention that after you get baptized, your baptized friends will expect you to change. Insincere baptism is wearing a mask so people can't see the real you. Eventually one mask leads to another, and another, until you lose yourself completely and reject the baptism, or whatever the first step into the maze was, anyway. Why not just say that baptism is an act of free will and a public statement before God? Your parents brought you up not to lie publicly and not to blaspheme, right?
This is very encouraging to me, being a Christian, having an atheist telling other atheists to be hypocrites. It's no wonder Christians are accused of being hypocrites so often if there are atheists masquerading as Christians. By your advice: if you have a conflict or any type of resistance, just lie to avoid it? Atheism just became brilliantly clear to me.
@Nekomedikia Lying to avoid consequences, eternal damnation aside, is a cowards reaction. If you're going to maintain a position you should maintain it because you thinks it's right. Or you can be a coward, lie and be a hypocrite. If you agree that it's ok to lie to avoid a consequence, does that mean atheists are all compromised immoral liars? Or is it just you? How many lies do you have to tell before you would consider yourself a liar? How many murders to be called a murderer?
No. This is complete bullshit. There's rebellion, and there's standing up for your (constitutional) rights. You expect everybody to just bend over and take it from the religious for our whole lives? No! What about dignity? Does the fact that doing those things make me die a little inside each time not matter? This is why we atheists must stand up for our freedom.
Faith and beliefs are something HIGHLY important to me. I am a atheist though. I will NOT participate in a ceremony by a religion I am neither part of or support. Just to do it to make your parents happy are extremely hypocritical.
@RobinHawkStudios to be an atheist is simply to not believe in god....nothing else....what your calling yourself is a sadist....no atheist is offended by ceremony....moron
@RobinHawkStudios to be an atheist is simply to not believe in god....nothing else....what your calling yourself is a sadist....no atheist is offended by ceremony....
like you already said in another video Onision 10% percent of your money, and ... idk. Though I do believe some parents are extreme, being told by my religious mother she knows another person who before this guy could get a car by his parent, he literally had to Memorize the 2nd act of the bible.
Why say don't hurt anyone? Who says we must abide by the law? If there's no God then nothing really matters...think about it. If there's no God, then it leaves only...you.
God never gave us a religion. He gave us Jesus instead!
@iloveNgany That is sad that that is all you have in your life. I happen to have many loving people and friends. God is not necessary for happiness. I hope you learn that in the long run.
Im sorry but i must disagree asking me as an atheist or rathing attemptin to force your religious ceremonies on me even if they are my parents is disrespectful and offensive
If my parents would force me to get baptized, I'd do it, if there was no way they would 'spare me', I'm not religious, so it wouldn't affect me, to me it would just mean a part of my hair getting wet, nothing else. Even though I am already baptized and confirmed..I never really thought or educated myself on christianity before I got baptized and confirmed, but then when I did educate myself on it, I saw some good things, but those hypocritical judgemental things did not level out the good things
When i see stupidity, i don't support it; counting religion. If my parents don't respect me enough to let me deny their christian beliefs, which they don't and they think i'm hell-bound, then fuck them. You get respect from someone by earning it. It doesn't come with the package. I still love them, but they're morons bound by a book that makes no sense.
Wait...if Here you say it's Harmless and doesn't matter...wHy do you HaVe suCH strong feelings against CHsristianity? wHy make Videos against it? If it's Harmless tHat people belieVe in sometHing tHat doesn't exist, wHy do you Care so muCH tHat people belieVe in an almigHty, all powerful God? if it makes tHem feel as if tHey Hae a purpose...wHy sHould tHey turn away from it? LoVe you Greg...but i'm starting to question wHeter or not you tHink tHese tHings tHrougH...
I agree that atheists could chill out some about religion in that if they are secure in their understanding then it should be as harmless as fairies to them. Yet before you are secure you must inevitably have a period of insecurity where such influences may block a real emotional grappling with this circumstance. Then it's not so harmless, but still not too bad. On the other hand if your religion preaches a doctrine of hell then it's about as safe as a gun. With pressure applied people go off.
THANK you Onision, for speaking my brain, once again ^^
But, I do have problems with this as well. and sorry about this but your website won't work for me for some reason hehe ^^; that's probably me just being dumb again, but anyway, my question is: What if you want to marry this guy who's a different religion than your parents are, and you know there will be a lot of unnecessary conflict no matter what you say?
Anyone can answer this, I'm just curious for new ways to solve this problem ^^
my parents force me to go to church, even though i don't believe in god or any of that, but i haven't told them because they're so religious...it fucking sucks having to go to church, sitting in a room for over an hour having their fairy tales shoved down my throat.
"I'm quite happy for people to have these toys(religion) and to play with them at home, and share them with other people who WANT to play with the toys. But they are not to make me play with the toys"
In other words, i am not denying the right for my parents to hold these(utterly silly and childish) views. But i do not want to partake and be apart of their silly game.
i actually said almost those exact lines to my mother about religion, i thankfully was not baptised but she wishes and prays all the time that she did, somehow [in her mind, using her logic] making me a more holy person and again somehow keeping me a Christian as i was till i was about 7. i am just far too rational and logical of a person to ever believe in the bible and/or most religions. i believe in I AM .. as in what i am and what that personally means to me and how that affects others.
my parents are both very religious. me? not so much. after years of fake praying, boring church camps and being lead in church choir, i sat down with them and told them that i didn't really think there was a god. they just stared at me and said " i know you might not think so now , but there will be a time when you will see what we see. and whether that happens in our lifetime or not is irrelevant. either way we still love you and we will always be here for you." i was lucky i guess.
My parents are both Jewish, and they wanted me to have an othridox jew batmizvah, i said no, becuase i think religion is a state of mind that has been catagorized due to different opinions. i think its NO big deal at all. thats why im an athiest.
What I don't understand is, that how come Christians can go preach about Jesus and God on the internet and in public all they want, while non-believers are often criticized and damned for talking about THEIR beliefs? :\
One argument against religion is that it causes unnecessary conflicts, wars ect. If an atheist gets up in arms over having to go to church and starts a conflict with their family or in the community, they are creating an unnecessary conflict, one reason why atheists may be against religion in the first place. If these practices are meaningless to you, why not go to church or get water splashed on your head to avoid conflict with loved ones. Just something to think about.
Well to ask a atheist or agnostic to partake in a religious ceremony is hurting them. It is no different than forcing a Christian to openly say there is no god. No different at all. Would you force a Muslim to do ceremonies for Christ? No. It is against their beliefs and to do so would be disrespectful. So why would you do the same to an atheist? Are our views of no god for some reason less legitimate than those of a god?
@owningtheworld I totally agree dude. I disagree with onision here. I'd never take part in some retarded ceremony just to please my parents, the only reason at all that I was baptized was cause I was a freaking baby when they did it. -_- Otherwise I'd have put my foot down at age 5 & told them to fudge themselves cause that was their beliefs & not mine at all. My mother could be on her death bed asking me to have my wedding in a church with a priest & I'd lie and say yeah if I was feeling nice.
@MrEllisRedding Agreed, although don't hold bitterness with your views. You are no better than those who look down upon you for your lack of belief if you look down upon those who do believe. I do see where he is coming from, but in all honesty, if your parents/ community/ family need you to go to church in order to love you. They aren't even worth your time.
im wiccan, and my family is aware of it. they also tell me to take part in christian ritual and cerimony. like if we are eating my dad will offer to pray with him. do you know what i do. I PRAY WITH HIM. why? because it doesnt effect me. i believe in a completly different deity than him. it also keeps peace in the house and i respect my elders that way. so coming not from an athiest, but from a pagan, i dont have a problem with taking part in christian ritual with family.
When I was 16 my parents took me to see this lady who claimed she had seen an apparition of the virgin mary. We were waiting for hours in this hill until our turn to meet the lady arrived. My mom started crying, my dad felt like he was going to fall down, I just stood there and felt nothing and my little sister rebelled and wouldn't take part of it. In the end they couldn't change my beliefs or my sister's, so I don't see the point of her rebellion (but then she was like 12, can't blame her)
Stand for something, or nothing at all. </3 I think atheism is about standing for your belief of no god. So, an atheist shouldn't do any religious acts...
Your acting like it's not a big deal, when you get baptized it's not just dunking your head under water, God says in the Bible he wants us to be all for him, or against him, not between.
year, but atleast I did something about it, atleast 'm not forced to attent religous gatherings that to me, are insulting. Nothing will ever change in the world, if people are passive and don't speak out about what they beleive liek you say we should so that we don't get in trouble.
So we should do nothing, when we are forced to practice something that we do not believe, and that we should "hey it dont hurt us an it makes me mama happy so yay!" Your too passive, I spoke out against my mom n grandparents, yah for 2 years they havnt treated me the same. but I have pride that I stood up to them forcing religion into my life, im proud i didnt sit there an say "Yes mom i believe in god" while trying to not throw up. Oh and they also grounded me and tooke verything i had for a y
I am Catholic. My parents forced me to partake in baptism and first communion and reconciliation. Gosh I hate taking those classes!!! But I think if I would have turned to another religion or become an atheist or agnostic they would allow me to have those beliefs. As a Catholic we have all these sacraments and we are always and I mean ALWAYS praying to and about the Virgin Mary to the point where I think its crazy! I have thought of becoming Christian and still do. Anyways great vid Onision! =)
@JonathanKanada ....just for the record, Catholicism and Christianity are two TOTALLY different religions ~ just because they have an image of Jesus Christ in their church does'nt mean they are Christians....don't believe me? research the difference! it's insane how many people think Catholic=Christian, i used to be be one of them! i don't "hate" Catholics, but it's scary how many people turn away from God alltogether to be athiest or anti-thiest when they are raised by Catholic parents
@GreenThumbMomma I have researched, an they r the same, because christianity is the name of the religious branch tht makes up, cahtolicism, lutheran, mormon, protestant, an any other brand tht comes form christianity
I was baptized as a baby and I don't I have any trauma from it.Even so, I suppose you can classify me as agnostic.
Yes, until the third grade or so I was forced to go to church, not by the side of my parents, but from the side of my grandparents.Though I survived. I don't see the big deal. You go there, you fall asleep, and they'll wake you when it's over
If church here was like in america, I'd go Happily.Even my atheist father said he'd support me to go often so u know it's alot worse here. :/
Correct me if I'am wrong..please do!!=) After watching all your Religious videos I came to the conclusion that you are really not an athiest, you seem to be mad at God, thus deciding to eliminate him out of your life . Hate is build on belief, and yes you do a lot of sarcasm, but in the end I guess its just Anger.[note] I said God people no matter what religion...and yes I'am a believer...but what Onision says is all True based on FACTS..THE MESSAGE IS "DO WHAT IS RIGHT" Go Onision! =)
@Cheeseisniceable of course He knew that. He pretty much says the earth will be destroyed and the God followers will be sent to his kingdom in Heaven. He gave us free will to trash the beautiful but sinful world, he knew we would trash it up before he burned it. Idk if that was the right way to explain it. Its 4am and im exahausted so im sorry if i messed it up.
I do partially agree with you about going along because it's not really a big deal. Why make waves if you don't have to. Sometimes it's REALLY not worth it to fight something if you're not making that big of an impact by resisting. If you were forced to go to church every week and pray and all this religious stuff on a regular basis and it really made you unhappy, it's make perfect sense to stand your ground and say no. However...your parents want you to get 1 baptism or something? No big deal.
if god did crate the world when he put humans on earth would't he know how much brain power he was giving us would't he know that humans could have the potental to dostory the earth?
All he is saying, is respect other peoples beliefs . you may not agree with them but let them do what they. its not hurting anyone. My family are Buddhist and i go to temple, and im an atheist i don't speak out. Its thier belief , even if i have all the right to speak out. Whats a little praying gonna do? Your not gonna die? Sometimes it might be a waste of time... thats it... just open your eyes people... think about how others feel.... I'm 13 years old.
Having respect for other people by lying to them about you beliefs?
Maybe if you want to be distant and subservient. Don't tell me to open my eyes, if everyone keeps lying to themselves, nothing will get accomplished. We will go into the next millennium with religions doing the same corrupt, atrocious scheme they've been doing since the dawn of civilization. I'm glad not all athiest/agnostic kids are as weak and spineless as onision. You might as well call yourself religious
Usually people are baptized when they are a baby because they can't talk or refuse then. If you aren't baptized and die, you will end up in hell because original sin that Christ dies for, hasn't been washed away. Yeah, it is more symbolism, but there is a reason it is done. Kids do not have the right to make their own religious decisions until they are out of their parents house.
I'm okay with that. All I really need is faith in myself and the capability to do whatever I want to do. Shouldn't that be enough? Thank you daddy, for raising me this way. I love you. <3
My dad was baptized in the British Christain Church when he was a baby. He grew up to be an Atheist. When I was born, as his first daughter, he raised me with no push on religion what so ever. Instead he gave me information, pure facts on each major religion to have a background view on all of them. I could see how they relate, and see how much religion does give people faith but at the same time kills the world around us. Today, I live life with no religion or atheism, simply not knowing, and
religion might not hurt you know but when we die the decisions that we took in this life will decide if we go to hell or not but i know you don't believe this cuz your an athiest. either way we we meet death we'll know if there was a God or not! but if there is......there is no turning back from hell!
Sure, religion doesn't hurt me, but lying about myself does. I feel like telling the truth is something to be proud of, even if it goes against an authority figure. I see your reasoning, but giving in has brought me nothing but depression so far.
on many occasions I have told my parents their cerimonies are incredibly stupid, I shouldnt say the religion as to not offend anyone but still, I think a day with my friends its better than being dunked in water, can go swimming for that
@XxJessieJackassxXreligion might not hurt you know but when we die the decisions that we took in this life will decide if we go to hell or not but i know you don't believe this cuz your an athiest. either way we we meet death we'll know if there was a God or not! but if there is......there is no turning back from hell!
@MsBiblefreak seems like you just can't wait to gloat after you die, well sorry to break this to you but dust can't gloat... So.. NO you won't "know" will you?
@MsBiblefreak What part of I don't believe in thata re you not comprehending? We meet at the end of what ever? I always thought we rotted in the ground. And from your name I'm guessing you belive in a book but you tell me, how do you PROVE hell?
I'm not Jewish but when friends asked me accompany them to services I went. I no longer practice Catholicism but when asked to go to Mass by a friend I didn't mind. I like the attitude of the pastor of my parent's church because he begins every service with this: "Whether you believe in G-d some of the time, all of the time or none of the time: Welcome."
My family is Christian too but they don't force me and my brothers to pray because they don't pray too! X'D they aren't very religious christians like a lot of Filipinos! 8D
My country is super religious..
there are always prayers before programs, my friends pray
before eating and i just go along with them because it's just pointless and troublesome to argue over it! XD
@chikkachinijohannady religion might not hurt you know but when we die the decisions that we took in this life will decide if we go to hell or not but i know you don't believe this cuz your an athiest. either way we we meet death we'll know if there was a God or not! but if there is......there is no turning back from hell!
I was extremely fortunate growing up that my parents let me figure out religion for myself.
My mom is Catholic and my dad is atheist, but neither of them even forced upon me their beliefs. I'm so glad that I got to experience religion on my own terms.
i have this problem....my mom forces me to go to synagauge sometimes yet i never pray. i think a better question to ask it wat is a way to comley say......i dont wanna partake in ur religion. Not that u hate the religion, yet u simply dont believe in it.....2 different things
I disagree. If I was to be grounded for not going to a religious ceremony because my parents want me to (not that they are religious or do want me to, just hypothetically), you would just tell me to go, and that it's okay for them to make me participate in something I don't want to, and/or punish me if I don't?
Sorry onision, you failed in the free will and not forcing others to do stuff section. So should I force my (non-existent) kids to participate in worshiping the almighty sock like I do?
i dont opose religion, but i wouldnt do something that violates my beleifs. im not quite an athiest (because i beleave that we all have an everlasting spirit) but i do not beleave there is a god/goddess. in any case i have found that most religions are extremely sexist. i will not participate in anything that is derogotory to any human being.
What if it was the other way around? What if the kid wanted to go to church and resents not being baptized while your parents tell them there is no god and they won't support them being religious? It's not always forcing your religion onto others, its also taking their religion away from them.
@Jessica164 i like your comment. in that case i suggest that you stand up for youself and God! maybe that's what God is calling you for! He wants you to stad up for Him!
@Jessica164 As an atheist I would like to say that you have a very valid point. I have considdered what actions I would take if I were a parent. I don't think I would tell a child explicitly that my beliefs are correct or incorrect, or that others are correct or incorrect; rather I would provide them with the tools (books, groups, references to organizations) which would enable them to choose for themselves. I am happy with my choice and would be happy knowing they chose freely.
@jadencore Um that is not what I had said at all. Many people who are atheists or pagan religions do not have their children baptized and never encourage their children to look into organized religions. My parents are not christian and never have been so when I wanted to go to church they discouraged it a lot which prevented me from going until I was in my late teens and could go myself. I was just saying that not all children are offered the options because their parents believe one thing.
The way you defined the life of an atheist....HAHAHHAA you are so fucking retarded. Im surprised you aren't being attacked by atheists for claiming something so stupid.
@TheAnonHorde Hes an agnostic, whom are often viewed as weak atheists, and he described the life of a teenage "closet" atheist quite well, i would know, as i've had personal experience in the matter.
I was made to go to church by my old school. I didn't like to participate, because I didn't believe in God, and I felt sitting in church and participating made me feel like I was mocking those who believed. I was doing all the ritualts they consider to be so important, and it just felt wrong.
Buddha said he would rather be kind than right. I think that's the point of the video. If one is "right" then the other person is "wrong". But if you are kind, you both win...and who is to know absolute truth?
You clearly don't understand what it's like. It's not a matter of rebellion, it's a matter of honesty and freedom of religion. Pretending to pray and going to church every Sunday made my parents happy, but it was a lie. My family and I don't share the same views, but no one stopped loving anyone. I'm a firm believer that ignorance is NOT bliss because someone is in the dark.
What if you have Satanic parents and you follow Catholic beliefs and your parents made you attend their Satanic rituals? That wouldn't be all the same... right? I'm not Catholic, btw. Just putting in a Devil's Angle.
Not everything in the bible is bad, people... I'm a Christian, and I choose to follow the constructive and loving laws in the bible.. Love your neighbor as you'd love yourself or whatever. lolol. There's alot of great stuff in there.. But people like to focus on the bad.. But it's fine. It's just my beliefs.. (;
@PandaSkinnyJeans I know some people who are atheists, and follow the rules of 'loving thy neighbour' better than those who were Catholic. You don't have to be religious to follow a lot of the "rules" written in the bible. Only have morals.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that you're claiming you have to be religious to follow those rules, and yes, there are good things in the Bible. It's even been proven that people who believe will in average live longer than those who don't.
@ThePinkiePoisonfangs It makes sense if you think about it. Religious people tend to have imaginary monsters and a imaginary friend to protect them. Atheists have real religious people to be afraid of. It's bound to take a toll on their health.
i got baptized in a pool as a kid by the church I went to.. and I wasn't a good swimmer and was barely keeping from drowning. IT was all stupid.. they say shit and dump you in the water its all Ballix lol it doesn't do shit. Its psychotic
I'm Christian but I love almost everything in our culture as the human race. My fascination with death, symbols, and..uh...other things is part of what makes me such a badass.
Unknown to my parents, I rejected the Christian faith years ago and have since converted to Buddhism. My mother recently started talking about Confirmation and I was grappling with the problem of telling her I was an atheist. This video actually presented a very logical point of view that I had not previously considered. I know I have to tell them eventually, but I think I'll wait until I'm living on my own and can tell them without hurting their feelings. Thanks Onision!
@smashingval yes, i agree, I have the same problem, my parents are christians and don't know that I am atheist, but I'm not sure what I am i guess because I believe that "god" is 'what's inside' of everyone. you are your own god
They weren't my parents, they were my fake step parents. I no longer live with them. They just thought they were perfect and shit and all so god worthy. Like my decision to become a vegetarian- they scoffed at me and said I have to eat the meat because God said it's ok so I absolutely have to. Or how I wear black alot- they said it was ungodly and I looked ugly and was so stupid. They tried to bring God into every miniscule thing against me.
With me it's more that I respect their belief and I feel it is rude and insulting to take part in something someone deems sacred when I, myself, do not believe in it.
@mattdaviestv well obviously lol I know, but the people I know don't see it that way...there just lazy and they don't want to even try and follow a religion, I also now a lot of people that would say there atheist just to sound cool. In my opinion being an atheist is a great point of view...and to me any point of view is great because it's something that someone puts there heart into and believes in.
if you tell your parents that you respect their faith but you don't want them to impose it on you, they should understand that and respect your personal beliefs.
I tell my mum that as long as she keeps her Catholicism away from me, I'll keep my anti-theism away from her. She doesn't talk to me about religion anymore, because I've STOOD UP FOR MYSELF and shown her I don't need nor care for religion.
@SakujoX3 religion might not hurt you know but when we die the decisions that we took in this life will decide if we go to hell or not but i know you don't believe this cuz your an athiest. either way we we meet death we'll know if there was a God or not! but if there is......there is no turning back from hell!
You gotta realize that even though it may not be true at all to you, that it is so real to your parents. Their is instances when parents cross the lines, but generally they are just caring about your well being and in their minds, this will make you happy. Its not easy to deal with. I have mormon parents who pretty much made me go to church until a few months ago, but its just because they love me. It doesnt make them bad parents.
@DooDoodleyLou For any parent to shove religion down someone's throat, is ridiculous no matter how real it is to them. If a kid has his/her own way of thinking, then a parent trying to contradict his/her opinion, is only going to make the kid hate their parent's idea more, and/or hold more firmly to their own idea.
@Darkone2365 I agree, its not right of them and it only causes problems, but a lot of the times the parents dont see that. Sometimes religion tends to blind them in that area. It just makes for a better relationship when you realize your parents ignorance on the subject and humor them a bit. Like Onision said, it really isnt hurting anyone.
@DooDoodleyLou Ya know I kinda wish I had been able to do that when I lived with my mom. she threw a massive fit when I told her. but I mean for kids, especially kids my age, (like 15-18) most of the time it doesn't feel right to lie to your parents about something like that. For me it was because it felt like my mom wouldn't love me for who I was. I couldn't bring myself to fake something to make her happy
@Darkone2365 My parents were weird about it for a while. I think I was about 13 when I told them I dont really dig the whole religion thing. I never "faked it" but after a whole bunch of fighting over whether or not I should go to church, I just gave in to going. Now Im 17 and I dont have to go anymore. My parents and I's relationship is much better, but thats just me. Sorry your mom doesnt understand.
@DooDoodleyLou well now that i'm older she does. back then when I told her I wasn't a christian, she just figured I was looking for a way to rebel. after I got older and my viewpoints have remained the same on the topic, she started to realize "Ok now he's old enough to think for himself, and he still thinks this way. that must be how he actually feels" so in a way, both of our methods had their ways of working out.
Its sin and you go to hell if you are not a believer, prey or even use condom but if you prey and abuse small children thats ok...According to the church
I want to know if you've read the satanic bible, and if you like the general philosophy, or part of it. I'm not a satanist, I'm atheist, but I just read it, and it has SOME good messages in it. I hope I see a video about this.
@bitesize1980 i ain't no expert, but i believe what it means is that, if you are a believer but a sinner, ull be put to hell for x period of time, and then will be brought to heaven, and this duration of time is usually insanely long. However there are different cases such as believing in other things as god other than god himself, which makes you a non believer. And to non believers, well they are sentenced to hell forever. =3
onision ther are other options like spiritual and another one i cant remember called undecided. i think its important to believe in your soul/spirit and believe your more than a bag of flesh and bones . . . u should also present this theory of spiritualality to the young folk as believing you have spirit means believing in yourself. . . please do . . . and have some emphasis on the idea that: organised religion is not always the best and maybe even defeating our free will . . .
I was raised Catholic and I def had to partake in ceremonies. Some were great, and some I didn't understand, but it made my mom happy. Which made me happy.
@RamsFan4Life39 "rejecting Jesus as lord and savior/not wanting to live a life for God" Then you burn in hell. Why would you believe in something you are not going to follow? You just proved my point. If you dont believe/follow/worship/whatever you go to hell.

But that's exactly the point - to the nonreligious person undertaking the religious ceremony is irrelevant, it's a waste of their time and their parents' and they shouldn't be made to do it. No it doesn't hurt, but in what way does it hurt to not participate?
Please attempt to distinguish "...rejecting Jesus as lord and saviour/not wanting to live a life for God" and "Not believing in God". I doubt it's possible.
I have a friend who was in a bad living situation, and the parents did some pretty bad stuff. (She never went into details...) and now her parents 'Found Jesus' and are saved. I guess that's the end of that.
I was getting ready to rebuttal whatever you were about to say about "religious parents being evil" or something along those lines, but you surprised me. I agree with you. That's how I've treated my life with my Christian parents, and now that they know I'm an atheist, things still haven't changed because they know that I did what I did for them because I really do love them (the same reason they did what they did, "save me").
I dislike how my mom & grandparents say i have to pray go to church i respect Catholics i like them better but i am Animist my mom doesn't like it she is really trying to change me
also I read that one of you said you refuse to pretend bc it's about proclaiming your faith. TANK YOU so much for that. It's true . Please don't go around saying you're a follower of Jesus Christ if you're not. That's the kind of people that put a bad name on true followers and make us all look like fakes. bc all people need is just a few bad examples of christians and they think we're all a bunch of fake do gooders.
So basically, lube up and bend over... summed up your vid in 5 words. But I prefer my identity be known, chances are it will come up again and again.

Maxid1 1 month ago
@Maxid1 Well yeah why wouldn't you lie to avoid it?
If you don't then your religious parents will say you have a demon inside you...my mother was actually like that.
Nekomedikia 1 month ago
@Nekomedikia Lying to avoid consequences, eternal damnation aside, is a cowards reaction. If you're going to maintain a position you should maintain it because you thinks it's right. Or you can be a coward, lie and be a hypocrite. If you agree that it's ok to lie to avoid a consequence, does that mean atheists are all compromised immoral liars? Or is it just you? How many lies do you have to tell before you would consider yourself a liar? How many murders to be called a murderer?
Maxid1 1 month ago
Religion is mans twisting of Gods truth.
Maxid1 1 month ago

Anyone can answer this, I'm just curious for new ways to solve this problem ^^

i actually said almost those exact lines to my mother about religion, i thankfully was not baptised but she wishes and prays all the time that she did, somehow [in her mind, using her logic] making me a more holy person and again somehow keeping me a Christian as i was till i was about 7. i am just far too rational and logical of a person to ever believe in the bible and/or most religions. i believe in I AM .. as in what i am and what that personally means to me and how that affects others.

my parents are both very religious. me? not so much. after years of fake praying, boring church camps and being lead in church choir, i sat down with them and told them that i didn't really think there was a god. they just stared at me and said " i know you might not think so now , but there will be a time when you will see what we see. and whether that happens in our lifetime or not is irrelevant. either way we still love you and we will always be here for you." i was lucky i guess.

What I don't understand is, that how come Christians can go preach about Jesus and God on the internet and in public all they want, while non-believers are often criticized and damned for talking about THEIR beliefs? :\
HelloRiani 1 year ago
One argument against religion is that it causes unnecessary conflicts, wars ect. If an atheist gets up in arms over having to go to church and starts a conflict with their family or in the community, they are creating an unnecessary conflict, one reason why atheists may be against religion in the first place. If these practices are meaningless to you, why not go to church or get water splashed on your head to avoid conflict with loved ones. Just something to think about.
awxish 1 year ago
Well to ask a atheist or agnostic to partake in a religious ceremony is hurting them. It is no different than forcing a Christian to openly say there is no god. No different at all. Would you force a Muslim to do ceremonies for Christ? No. It is against their beliefs and to do so would be disrespectful. So why would you do the same to an atheist? Are our views of no god for some reason less legitimate than those of a god?
owningtheworld 1 year ago

ThePinkiePoisonfangs 1 year ago
@ThePinkiePoisonfangs It makes sense if you think about it. Religious people tend to have imaginary monsters and a imaginary friend to protect them. Atheists have real religious people to be afraid of. It's bound to take a toll on their health.

Thanks Onision!
smashingval 1 year ago

Shonnna00 1 year ago
if you tell your parents that you respect their faith but you don't want them to impose it on you, they should understand that and respect your personal beliefs.

MsBiblefreak 1 year ago
You gotta realize that even though it may not be true at all to you, that it is so real to your parents. Their is instances when parents cross the lines, but generally they are just caring about your well being and in their minds, this will make you happy. Its not easy to deal with. I have mormon parents who pretty much made me go to church until a few months ago, but its just because they love me. It doesnt make them bad parents.
DooDoodleyLou 1 year ago
@DooDoodleyLou For any parent to shove religion down someone's throat, is ridiculous no matter how real it is to them. If a kid has his/her own way of thinking, then a parent trying to contradict his/her opinion, is only going to make the kid hate their parent's idea more, and/or hold more firmly to their own idea.
Darkone2365 1 year ago
@Darkone2365 I agree, its not right of them and it only causes problems, but a lot of the times the parents dont see that. Sometimes religion tends to blind them in that area. It just makes for a better relationship when you realize your parents ignorance on the subject and humor them a bit. Like Onision said, it really isnt hurting anyone.
DooDoodleyLou 1 year ago
@DooDoodleyLou Ya know I kinda wish I had been able to do that when I lived with my mom. she threw a massive fit when I told her. but I mean for kids, especially kids my age, (like 15-18) most of the time it doesn't feel right to lie to your parents about something like that. For me it was because it felt like my mom wouldn't love me for who I was. I couldn't bring myself to fake something to make her happy
Darkone2365 1 year ago
@Darkone2365 My parents were weird about it for a while. I think I was about 13 when I told them I dont really dig the whole religion thing. I never "faked it" but after a whole bunch of fighting over whether or not I should go to church, I just gave in to going. Now Im 17 and I dont have to go anymore. My parents and I's relationship is much better, but thats just me. Sorry your mom doesnt understand.
DooDoodleyLou 1 year ago
@DooDoodleyLou well now that i'm older she does. back then when I told her I wasn't a christian, she just figured I was looking for a way to rebel. after I got older and my viewpoints have remained the same on the topic, she started to realize "Ok now he's old enough to think for himself, and he still thinks this way. that must be how he actually feels" so in a way, both of our methods had their ways of working out.
Darkone2365 1 year ago
I don't hate or ridicule any religion.
Everyone has the right to believe what they want to, and if it makes them happy, who am I to take that from them.
Even if I don't take any of the ceremonies serious, and they bore the shit out of me.
And religion is also a good thing because it keeps the people sane.
Most people can't handle that there isn't some force who is watching them, taking care of them and punishing them.
They'd do whatever the fuck they'd like because they wouldn't go to hell.

Its sin and you go to hell if you are not a believer, prey or even use condom but if you prey and abuse small children thats ok...According to the church

There is no gain in rebelling to them. We should only accept their religion, move on and love them for who they are.

I want to know if you've read the satanic bible, and if you like the general philosophy, or part of it. I'm not a satanist, I'm atheist, but I just read it, and it has SOME good messages in it. I hope I see a video about this.
diamondgirlcici 1 year ago
@bitesize1980 i ain't no expert, but i believe what it means is that, if you are a believer but a sinner, ull be put to hell for x period of time, and then will be brought to heaven, and this duration of time is usually insanely long. However there are different cases such as believing in other things as god other than god himself, which makes you a non believer. And to non believers, well they are sentenced to hell forever. =3

In the exact moment when I discover That Jesus didnt exist and that there is no god in anywhere...
my frist thought was I have to protect my mother from this pain.. of knowing 'the lie'
Till now the fact I leave the religion makes her upset..
I do not have the right of impose what I think to her..
Her religion is irrelevant..

onision ther are other options like spiritual and another one i cant remember called undecided. i think its important to believe in your soul/spirit and believe your more than a bag of flesh and bones . . . u should also present this theory of spiritualality to the young folk as believing you have spirit means believing in yourself. . . please do . . . and have some emphasis on the idea that: organised religion is not always the best and maybe even defeating our free will . . .

@RamsFan4Life39:
Please attempt to distinguish "...rejecting Jesus as lord and saviour/not wanting to live a life for God" and "Not believing in God". I doubt it's possible.

I was getting ready to rebuttal whatever you were about to say about "religious parents being evil" or something along those lines, but you surprised me. I agree with you. That's how I've treated my life with my Christian parents, and now that they know I'm an atheist, things still haven't changed because they know that I did what I did for them because I really do love them (the same reason they did what they did, "save me").

also I read that one of you said you refuse to pretend bc it's about proclaiming your faith.
