Back in the day a few of us would get togther on the weekends and play this game non-stop. We also got to the end!.. Always liked the ELF, due to his speed. Anyways, NICE JOB!
That's it? You go down that well and it's over? Fuck...I pumped so many quarters in this game as a kid I single-handedly kept the pizza joint in my neighborhood aflot playing this shit.
So, is this the actual ending or what? Everyone is contradiction themselves. All I know is Gauntlet ate more of my fuckin quarters than a fat guy at Sizzler. This game completely overwhelms you with enemies, drains your energy for no reason, and gives you no guidance as to where to go next. Oh yeah, what the hells the plot anyway?
Huh! That victory theme is the same tune from Blasteroids--the latest sequel to Asteroids, produced back in the nineties. But it would play after you were defeated, right before Blasteroids went back to attract mode. I never beat Blasteroids (or saw anyone else do it), so I have no idea if they cheaped out and used the same song for Blasteroids' victory theme too.
I played it too.... got to level 160 as if you didn;t have ALL The talismans gathered by 100 it just rolled to the start :( ..... too bad i didn't have a guide tHEN :P
I played this game over 20 years ago(ish?) with my father when I was a little boy, we made it up to the late 70s level which is the last level that gives you a passcode.
After that, we could get through quite a few levels but never reached the end.
We both played Wizards without knowing they were the best character. Good memories... good times.
Nostalgia! I remember being so thrilled when I finally beat this back in 8th grade. I was sooo pumped cuz it really really HARD to get all the clues and make it to the dragon.
God job.
BY THE WAY, WHAT HAPPENDS IF YOU GO INTO THE EXIT WITHOUT GETTING THE ORB?
I managed to beat this game with the elf and the wizard. I didn't have much patience with the warrior or the valkyre. I still can't believe how hard they made it to get to the end. Collect clues, find the path to room 100, and manage to beat the three headed dragon at the end. What a pain!
Yeah, same here, I played this fucking thing for hours, not sure as I was told only a hundred levels, but I swear I had hit 430 somethin before I stopped. I knew about clues, but didn't know they were needed. thanks again. I can live my life now.
I think the same man .I have this game in arcade and NES version too. I love playing and collecting retro games like this. By the way it´s nice to see young people like us who knows about Gauntlet je je , good for you.Greetings from javoland.
Wow, I never did get to see that ending...and now that I have, I'm glad I didn't waste any more of my life trying to finish the game. Thanks for the vid.
Wasn't there another Gauntlet game for the NES that allowed you to have all 4 characters, and you could select which character to preform which attack? I'm sure it's part of the Gauntlet series, but im not sure. I want that game so bad! Help me out!
I had the NES version but it didnt compare to the excitement of playing with 4 people at the arcade. Gauntlet 2 arcade version had a dragon at the end and i remember when the game was released there was a big contest poster in front that said if you reach the secret level and kill the dragon you won a prize. I never saw anyone do it tho. Of course i was only like 9 at the time so..
I loved the NES Gauntlet. Tough as nails to beat. I beat it once. Just once using the thief. All I remember is a 3-headed dragon. Is this a level after that that I am forgetting?
It sounds like your thinking of Legend of Zelda. This game never really had any boss monster really. Just endless amounts of regular things to shoot swarming in larger masses with each level acomplished
I'm 100% certain it was a Gauntlet game for NES. And certain there is a boss dragon at end level. Were there different Gauntlet games for NES?... wait, i just checked wikipedia and it says that gaunlet 2 was sometimes marketed as gauntlet on nes... maybe that's what i had.
I never beat this

Wow I am impressed. I didn't think this game actually had a ending with all the levels lol.

I'm certain I'm the only one here who knows this, but the ending music is exactly the same as for Blasteroids. ("Blaster-wha?" "Exactly.")

Yeah... I learned that one at the age of 9 after hitting level 120..... it was the first game I ever just 'turned off' at that age....

(If nobody answered your question) You get a huge "GAME OVER" screen when you enter the 100th room. That's it.

I just noticed that you beat this using the wizard! That's the only non-thief ending I've ever heard a player have.

Wow, they actually had an ending - something I'm pretty sure the original Arcade version lacked.
Interesting how the most difficult games always seem to have the crappiest endings.
