  • Wow. Haven't heard anything so fresh for ages (since Zorn, actually).

  • sounds like a jazz version thats lost the sense of rhythm

  • @06051988 It's called tempo rubato

  • The music might be a bit pretentious but hell, that's what makes it awesome. Why would you work hard to master an instrument and not use your absolute full ability while playing and writing?

  • @Tetsuo964Pinocchio Sometimes it's the soft tones, or simple things that make life great. Pulling back is not something to be ashamed of, it's sometimes looked at as being smart. I think that's what dynamics are all about.

  • @Tetsuo964Pinocchio Oh sorry. I miss-read your comment. I thought you didn't like it.

  • Caught their show last minute one night and sat right up front. these guys really put their souls in it.

  • What I love about this type of music is that you don't know what will happen next, very unpredictable and exciting, atonal clusters ftw.

  • I like how this had to be broken down into an Us v. Them argument. I played piano for a very short time - wouldn't call myself a musician - and I still love this stuff. You don't have to study music to enjoy this. As for the "too much noodling" comment, does Country have too much twang? Does Blues sound too sparse? I just don't understand a comment like "theres too much Noodling in this Jazz song." Its jazz for god's sake. Btw, what jazz do you listen to? Bebop? This song is incredible.

  • @Boredonthejob You should get a medal for that comment.

  • @harlequin71 Real musicians write music they want to hear. Meaning, real musicians write music for musicians. If you do study notes or study sound or study composition it is very musical and very beautiful (not my fave bad plus song but still very impressive). if you don't like it, don't listen. This is for the 5%, not the 95%, and speaking for the 5%, we can't get enough!

  • @flamingbalsac1

wow, thanks for the insight Flaming Ballsack.

  • i'm 14 and... God this gives me the creeps, positively speaking

  • MY GOD!!!! PURE DOPE!!!!

  • I never thought music could be this good, honestly.

  • I adore radiohead but i`d like tu admit this is better than original ))

  • 7 people have Hitler haircuts.

  • @gargoyle666

Huh ?... I still like it, with another haircut =)

  • @gargoyle666 hairdo... hitler HAIRDO ;)

  • @DJChrisson my mistake!

  • @DJChrisson refrigerator buzz

  • i forgot where i was at 4:59 and then at 7:24 i remembered i was at work and now i'm sad

  • I gotta say, while the interesting lyrics and haunting vocals make the original a complete classic, the force and suspense which these guys put into the outtro is for me quite an improvement to that particular element.

  • I Just Jazzed In My Pants...

  • @IamAsi94 I loled

  • niiicceeee xD

  • @muziekert do you like olives? I doubt you do. I hated them, but my father always told me to eat them because you'll find that they are the most delicious food. Don't criticise olives if you dine on big macs.......

  • I am listening to esbjörn svensson trio and The Bad Plus. Where do I go from here? I find music like this hard to find. Suggestions please!

  • @oflynnmusic Check out the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Or John Zorn

  • @oflynnmusic check out to Avishai Cohen trio! Dhafer Youssef !! Robert Glasper Trio...cant recall more... =)

  • @oflynnmusic check anouar brahem, bugge wesseltoft and anything to come out on his label:jazzland

  • I dream of the day when I will have the ability to manipulate a song in any way I desire like these guys do. Hats off to Bad Plus!!

  • i wanted to stay away from their covers, cause I wanted to hear their originals first. I'm glad I did. I found their style, and they apply it really well to the covers.

  • @muziekert the same way you can rape the comment section. no one cares that you dont like it, either you dont appreciate jazz or you dont appreciate good music so learn some music theory and try again later. thanks for playing

  • @muziekert

someone should rape you for that comment... get fucked

  • @billyhigdon lolumad?

  • @muziekert

Never before has beautiful, consensual lovemaking been so sorely confused with rape.

  • @muziekert

    literally angry with rage

  • @muziekert They were born with massive elephantine music dicks and didn't know what else to do with them.

  • @muziekert

They didn't rape this at all... If you want to hear what raping this song sounds like, listen to the Panic! At The Disco version.

  • Magnificient. Especially the second half.

  • I don't like covers and I don't like extreme virtuosism and jazz, I love post rock and minimalism, I love Radiohead and I was the second person who disliked this video, any problem?? that's why the button is there... please respect everyone's tastes and opinions.

  • @andyEITS You come across as ignorant to music.

Comments are here for a reason eh?

  • @Basswaffle It's just my opinion and it's my taste, how can that make me an ignorant? I'm just saying that it always will be someone who doesn't like what you love... and there's nothing you can do about it.

  • @andyEITS I don't understand how someone can just not like one genre of music. All music can appreciated. General statements like that make it seem like you don't know much about jazz. I also don't understand how it is "virtuosism".

  • @andyEITS I respest your position.. All the top comments like - N people (who dislike this video) don't have ears are kind of stupid.

  • @andyEITS id say that this is pretty minimalist. and radiohead is pretty virtuosic. everything in its right place is in 10/4.

  • @fabfreebird1 Agreed!!!!!

  • @andyEITS

For what it's worth, I tend to agree with you. I don't take it so much as virtuosity as I do some kind of arbitrary complexity. Brad Mehidou starts of with an amazing cover of Exit Music and it then turns in to some atonal piano noise because he gets to engrossed with HITTING ALL THE KEYS or something. In comparison a jazz Pianist like Duke Jordan is a virtuoso certainly, but he never seems to lose sight of simple beauty. I like that myself.

  • Eargasm.

  • mmm delicious tunage down the ear hole!! Radiohead's my favy. Love to hear good covers of their stuff, this is spectacular!

  • The future is here

  • I can only imagine a Bad Plus cover of In Limbo.

  • 1 person doesnt know how to use a mouse

  • 1 dislike is too many

  • Very creative cover.

  • that is a great instrumental cover version of that song[wow, so many adjectives, heh]

  • ohhhh that bass

  • 'wwooowww

  • I love The Bad Plus...one of my favorite jazz bands and they make Karma Police sound awesome..the song is already awesome but to hear it like this is cool

  • This is fantastic. I love it, but I can't find a download for it anywhere. My Bad Plus collection is incomplete without this. I love the way they really bring the tune out at the end. So much passion and energy. And it's a beautiful melody.

  • @Jacobx5 /files/376595436/08-the_bad_plus-karma_police.mp3

This is the only Bad Plus song I've heard, is there anything you'd recommend as a starting point?

  • @richardjohn89 Thanks for that link. It's difficult to say where to begin. The first song I heard was their take on Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit which can be found on Youtube. Then I Youtubed them some more. "And Here We Test Our Powers of Observation" is one of the first songs I really loved. A lot of their music is difficult to get into at first but very rewarding. It's very varied as well because all three members contribute compositions, in addition to the odd cover like this one.

  • @richardjohn89 If you're interesting in getting an album I would start with These Are the Vistas and work through chronologically.

  • lost of love

    anthem for the earnest

those are only my favorite, there is plenty of others

  • @Jacobx5 (Add rapidshare period com to the start of that link, Youtube blocks URLs)

  • @Jacobx5 - download it from itunes. thats what i did.

  • me pongo de pie al escuchar este tema

  • where can i find this track?!

  • epic. pure epic.

  • Bad Plus is AMAZING !!
