I've seen Chocolate fights, he was filmed, I've seen them in Cuba, there are those kind of films in cuban's archives, so there is the possibility to find them.
Armstrong was Robbed.Great fight though. There will never be anyone who will break his record of holding three titles at once and he almost had 4 but he was robbed in that fight also. Thanks for the video.
He was definately robbed of the middleweight title, so basically he won titles in 4 weight classes...by todays standards it would be the equivalent of 8 or 9 weight classes.
Wow, thanks for posting this! Just wondering, would you happen to have any of Kid Chocolate's fights? I've heard a lot about him as well but never seen him fight...
No, sorry, I haven't come across any kid chocolate fights though he's rated as a great. I haven't come across any of Davey Day either; sorry to say this but if it isn't out there already then it probably wasn't filmed. Although there probably is a radio recording of the fight.
It'd be great to see the fight you're talking about hughtharr but I'm not sure all fights were recorded. Robinson's title fight with Gavilan wasn't recorded I don't think.
Hi Flashingswords, Yes, I agree, unfortunately. Day was as tough as nails, Armstrong said after the fight that Davey has a heart as big as his head. He should know he broke his hand over it.
Two Great Champions. You wwant to see the best fight, try and find the Armstrong vs. Davey Day and you'll see a super match between them. Day sent Hank to the Hospital and no Champions wouldn't give him another title fight. When he fought Angott down in Louisville for the NBA lightweight title, Dempsey gave it to Angott by 1 point, also in that fight Dempsey was the Referee and sole judge. The Ky Boxing commission shelved the 3 judges for this match. Davey was robbed!
Davey Daitch "Day" was my grandfather. I have never had the opportunity to watch any of his fights, but would love to! Please let me know if you have film of his fights, or would know how I could gain access to fight footage. Davey was a great fighter who was never given his proper dues. I am glad that you know of him.
Indeed, congratulations. Davey Day was truly a Great Boxer, he happened to be in the same stable with Barney Ross who was the Champion, which held Davey back. He could have beat Ross on his worst day. You should be very proud of him, as you come from a Champion blood line. Best to you. Ron
