Do you know how many Tibetans in China and overseas? Even thousands of Tibetans want to separate from China, there are still millions of Tibetans who don't want to separate!
It is easy to find evidence that those places still want to be part of UK. They have had polls and referendums many times, for example in northern Ireland in 1998, only 28.9% wanted independence. And in Scotland last year, less than 20%.
I know there are millions of tibetans who don't want to seperate... but how can you be sure of the proportion if you don't let them show it? There has never been any proof for chinese to know what tibetans think... never any poll or referendum...
In the Scottish government 79 of 129 members do not support independence... does Tibet even have a chance for it's own government?
Also, it is obvious that Western countries care about what this voting shows... Ireland, Canada, Australia and more than 70 other countries seperated from Britain usually because the majority voted for independence. And so they got what they wanted. Even if there was proof that Tibetan people wanted to be independent, would the government even listen to them?
wuzi2008, let's assume we can do a survey on only black Americans to see how many percent would prefer independence from the white Americans, a survey only on Aboriginals of Australia , a survey only on Maorist of New Zealand to see how many percentage would prefer to be independent if they knew there's option for them to be independent.
Well yea... if there were Aborigines or Maoris or African Americans with that kind of Agenda, they are free to pursue such a vote; I wouldn't be surprised if it had already happened. All those independence groups do exist as well, but whether or not they have a majority, the fact is that they would have the freedom to campaign for it...
In UK, we even have an independence party for London to seperate from UK. It's crazy... And in the USA, practically every state has such an organization.

Well I did live in China for several years, I do know lots of things about the real situation there (although maybe not in tibet). I know that both sides have biased media for one thing.

I know that the 2 or 3 tibetans I have met don't care at all about independence, but I still believe there is a sizeable proportion out there. Whether it's 1% or 10%, if they did research the exact numbers, it would be good evidence for the Chinese government.

As an answer to "Tibet will always belong to China" I say: There is nothing eternal in the world. Even the power of communist party will be over sometime. On Taiwan it has lost it already. TW has its own embassy which means it is infact independent from China. Mongolia too. There are growing problems in Qinghai, Xinjiang and Tibet. China is only an uncontrollable colony of Han-Chinese. I don't think China consider Tibet as occupied land. It was always considered as part of China. And indeed, Tibet itself delcared twice for independence FROM China since 1914. So tell me, why would an independent nation wants to declare independence from another nation? So at least you would need to logically concluded that somehow Tibet was part of China before 1914 in order for it to even bother to declare independence, right?

Yes, they have the opportunity to be free whenever they want... The independence groups have freedom to persuade people, and if the majority support them they will get their way very quickly. Actually, most Scottish and Northern Irish still want to be part of UK (at least 50%). The English already have little power there anymore, in fact.

It is easy to find evidence that those places still want to be part of UK. They have had polls and referendums many times, for example in northern Ireland in 1998, only 28.9% wanted independence. And in Scotland last year, less than 20%.
I know there are millions of tibetans who don't want to seperate... but how can you be sure of the proportion if you don't let them show it? There has never been any proof for chinese to know what tibetans think... never any poll or referendum...

Also, it is obvious that Western countries care about what this voting shows... Ireland, Canada, Australia and more than 70 other countries seperated from Britain usually because the majority voted for independence. And so they got what they wanted. Even if there was proof that Tibetan people wanted to be independent, would the government even listen to them?

Well the chinese media claim that's clear; maybe it's true, but only the chinese who watch chinese news will be that easily convinced.
I know that the 2 or 3 tibetans I have met don't care at all about independence, but I still believe there is a sizeable proportion out there. Whether it's 1% or 10%, if they did research the exact numbers, it would be good evidence for the Chinese government.
