The subtitles read "When the prince saw the princes," not the princess - which create a whole different meaning. Lilies wouldn't grow in the sea, you know, and oysters don't swim. If this is a story meant for children in an educational manner it might make sense to fix the mistakes including the title. A Marmaid sounds like a Mermaid Bar Hostess.

In the original story, the little mermaid died. She didn't live.

Disney were planning to make that ending but then changed it as it would be much too depressing and extreme for audiences to watch, since Disney is meant to be happy not sad. Still, I love the Disney version. One of my favourite films ever!

The Disney version did not follow the original plotline. In the original story, the little mermaid did decide to die and became foams at the end, unlike Disney's ending, in which she lives happily ever after with her prince.
