i just read that alice cooper got the name for himself/band by using her name from her mayberry rfd role as cousin alice (cooper). wow, talk about fishing in a lake of obscurity for a band name
@ultrakool Don't believe everything you read! ;-}}
The band adopted the name "Alice Cooper" in 1968 and had released 3 albums by the time that Alice Ghostley appeared on Mayberry RFD, her 1st episode airing October 12, 1970.
@rodanvideo it was straight from the horse's mouth on the old "dinah shore show" afternoon talk show. btw, aunt bea was replaced by ghostley at the beginning of rfd's second season (09/22/69), just about the time "the nazz" discovered todd rundgren was already using that name, thus necessitating furnier et. al. to change the band's name and begin using alice cooper. makes sense to me
@ultrakool No, Frances Bavier left AFTER the conclusion of the 2nd season [4/13/70]. Ghostley didn't appear until the 3rd season [10/12/70], which was after Alice Cooper already released albums, such as Pretties for You.
I'm an old fart and remember those days. If you can find some "internet truth," lead me to it.
@rodanvideo well, scratch my last comment since i now just discovered cooper's first album (ac pretties for you) was released in august 1969. gotta love wikipedia, home of urban myths, half truths and conjecture. haha. i won't throw the baby out with the bath water regarding wiki, tho. it is a source of some really good factual info...always cross-check it, is my motto
The more times I watch this video, the more I love it. I've been repeatedly saying "Charge the wet back triple" for the past few days! Gotta love Paul Lynde and Alice Ghostle- great comic timing, great personalities and GREAT voices! Why didn't a 70's TV executive think to give these two a sitcom? It woulda been brilliant.
I searched youtube just now, and it seems that several people have posted variations of this scene. OH WELL! ...But I didn't post "mine" just to hear Paul say "shit" and "sperm." My purpose was to show the similarity between Alice and him. Many people think they are VERY-MUCH alike. Uhhhh - THEY ARE!
Alice passed away recently. Yet another legend has left us {sigh}.
Yes, I understand - all the great ones of our generation are leaving us. It's sad! But thanks so much for posting this - I'd never seen it before! :-)

Charlotte Rae sounds like both Paul and Alice! I believe they all attended Northwestern together, along with Cloris Leachman.
