What I think is funny is they say the world will soon all be 64bit ... and still most people I know are still using 32bit... and most software is only made in 32bit...
It's take longer for the change to take effect...
The funny thing is that most High-end 3D software is made only for Windows... for example 3DS Max is Windows only... but most company use Linux to render out 3D... For render both Pixar and Dreamworks use Linux clusters , renderfarms, and Servers for the hard work...
@KingofComputing You clearly have never looked up RenderMan that is made by PIXAR for Linux , Windows , and Mac OS all 64bit ... and Pixar also use DELL computer , as well as Mac... and for Renderfarm, and servers they use Linux .... Shrek they used Linux RedHat 64 for the rendering... and I know that for a fact...
@KingofComputing My point how ever is that Windows / PC make up most of the worlds computers, and most average users computer are 32bit ... Most computers sold are 32bit not 64 ...Out of all the people I know only two of them have 64...
@StateCCM most software that i use is 64-bit. i have the adobe cs5 suite and that's all 64 bit, most of my mac applications like finder, preview control panel, are all running in 64bit mode on my iMac, and i'm pretty sure that the new microsoft office for mac runs native for both.
Amazing how not so long ago this video was made. And looking at computers now in 2010, a $700 Mac Mini will perform better than the G5 in most cases...
You know, I really would like to have seen whatever engineering prototypes Apple had floating around of the PowerBook G5. It's a pity that never panned out.
the future gets nearer and nearer and Apple has plans for all Indian students.Sure you wanna know what it is,then feel free to call us toll free at 1800-425-4646.
IBM is so good at what it did, why did they give up? IBM can run circles around any Intel CPU. Just look at the Cell, Its one core but it can handle 8 threads at 3.2Ghz.
i just liked the PowerPC processors more than intel. Although now that I've warmed up to it now with the new centrino platform. But, I'm probably not the only one that wished that the PPC chipset lasted just a bit longer.
you know the biggest problem i have is that i've heard that the next version of Mac OS X dubbed Snow Leopard Will Not support the PowerPC processors. I don't think that's fair because someone that spent a couple of thousand dollars on a system isn't going to want to upgrade to a new Mac. I think they should continue support for the PowerPC Macs at least a few more years.
would u want a powerbook g5 which burns your lap and has just an hour of battery life? they just couldn't cool the g5 enough to put it into a laptop, and even if they could, it would have been too power-hungry to last long enough with batteries. thats one of the reasons Apple switched to Intel.
Don't forget that with console manufacturers increasingly turning to outside designs for CPUs, IBM saw a great business opportunity to use their PowerPC chips in the game consoles. Unfortunately, this "kinda" stalled development for the computer market, annoying Apple enough that they couldn't take the delays anymore and decided to switch to Intel. So in the process of their own greed, IBM lost their chance to be hugely recognized in processor chips for the consumer/household market like Intel.
It wasn't really a matter of greed, it was pure economics. If you're IBM, what would make more sense? Catering to the whims of a boutique computer maker with only ~5-10% of the PC market, or supplying CPUs to *all* of the major players of the console wars? I like all other die-hard Mac users mourned the move to Intel, but when we didn't get our 3 Ghz G5 after the announcement in 2003, the writing was on the wall for all of us.
Apple dropped them because they didn't meet a due date. And now PowerPc is used in PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, and the Wii as well as PowerPc is the design for AMD Processors. If you say AMD sucks you are saying G1-G5 sucks and the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360.
I really Wonder what happened to this partnership. Because now there with intel. Also they said that there already making prototypes for the next generation...guess not! If anyone knows why there not together anymore please tell me!
First off, I'm a huge apple fan. I have 6 intel macs and 10 ppc macs... I've noticed that apple's unique, customer-friendly atmosphere changed alot when the intel macs rolled off the line. One reason, they don't make these videos anymore. I miss watching these movies when they release a new intel mac. I believe that this was one of the last ones they did (besides the ipods).
its stil a good system i got a powermac g3 it stil works for little things checking your mail browsing the web listen to music so even this powermac g5 is old buth i think it wil stil be now a days a pc everbody can use
You can simplifie it by saying : All games from s-nes too xbox 360(I saw somewhere that there is a x360 emulator for the new mac pro dual xeon quad core 3gHz because it have the calculation power to handle it) and standars pc games.
yeah gaming is cool and all if you have no life, but for the grown ups that like to actually use their computers productively and get something done in real life, that is merely a laugh. You gamers just dont get it, and never will, youll sit there and rant and spew and salivate over all this expensive ass bloated hardware and all for what, wasted time and cheap entertainment? come on, get real, wake up people
People are allready laughing at it now . . . . . . the G5 has evolved considerably since this video was made and that is quite apparent, especially when they start discussing the hardware specifications. Notice the IDE connections on the harddisks. LMFAO@IDE, talk about shitty technology compared to the speeds of serial ATA +
macs are a million times better than pcs for gaming. especially this one. its just no where near as many get released. but if ur sad enuf to play games, then we mac users are the ones lauging out loud at your sorry ass. you cock jockey
