No one can beat Laurie at this song. She sings it as if she wrote this great song I get chills listening to her sing. The Harmony wasn't bad either. Jim Sullivan
Why bother comparing her voice to Alison Krauss? They're not even similar. You might compare Suzanne Cox to Krauss, but why Lewis? That's like comparing Vince Gill's singing to Rod Stewart's.
And sandpaper? You gotta be kidding. Well, Rod Stewart's, maybe.
@k4rotube Yes, I think you are right. Look at Nashville Bluegrass Band - Blue Train. There you can see him clearly. There are two bass players who are easy to recognize, Roy Huskey Jr and the way he moves his right arm and Mark Schatz who is jumping up and down.
If you saw the comment someone posted about this lady, you would sure be upset as I am. I think it has been removed, Had I been as low as them, I would go somewere and HIDE, Why did you want to hurt this little lady with your filth? don't you wish you could sing like her??. Laurie that is a Great song, And you can damn sere sing it, God bless you my friend, 10-e-c,
@m7lists The great benefit of country music is that the individuality of sound is not technologised out of existence. Her voice is her own and far from unpleasant but different from Alison Krauss. After all, some people say that they don't like the voice of Iris Dement but it fits the music.
Thanks BluegrassLibrary for posting this great bluegrass number written by Melissa Monroe sung by Laurie Lewis. This is how bluegrass is supposed to be,simple humble words that hits the heart, thanks,Eric.
Jerry and Sam make everyone they play with sound better than excellent. Saw a show where they were playing with Lyle Lovett. Those 2 could sound like a horn section when needed. They are the BEST
LL won a Grammy for "True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe," 1997, and was twice named Female Vocalist of the Year by the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association). She hails from the San Francisco area.
I watch this from Germany. I've seen Laurie many years ago in Stuttgart. I never forgot 'Who will watch the homeplace'. But this song is wonderful, too.
Gene Libbea on bass, David Grier on guitar. Great performance!

The video is pretty fuzzy, but I believe the bass player is Gene Libbea.

The bass player is Roy Huskey Jr.

My guess is that the bassplayer is Tom Grey from the Seldom Scene and the Country Gentlemen.

"Haven of mercy" is the very best song by Laurie - in my opinion... Sad song but with so much emotions

Wow.
She sounds like sandpaper compared to Alison Krauss.
