I have encountered the types of "christians" which you are referring to, and it is a shame that they do these types of things. But not all Christians are like this. In fact, there are a fair number who are supportive of gay rights. We had a pride walk in our town, and there were four clergy from local congregations who walked with us to show their support. These were not the types who would try to change anyone. Some Christians can be genuinely accepting.
