Thank you 4 this video, I was 1 of the many that didn't evacuate but thankfully lived thru the destruction of Katrina. It's frustrating to me that so many people assume I lived in New Orleans when I say I was in Katrina, most say "oh mississippi got hit hard 2?" then I tell my story (I lived in Diamondhead) & the hell we went thru when we saw the storm surge coming but could do nothing about it & the aftermath we faced when we were on day 5 with no food/water. Most thank me for educating them.
we just came back from vacation on the gulf coast. i still cant believe what is not therel]. GOD BLESS YOU ALL ON THE GULF COAST. I'M FROM SOUTH FLA SO I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE. we sure enjoyed the sea food / even after the oil spill. GOD BLESS TO YA:LL
I remember driving by Treasure Bay out in the middle of 90. All the devastation. A normal route taking a good 10 minutes took hours. Not one lick of breeze anywhere. No power. People rushing places because of word on gas and then finding out it was just rumor. It sucked. It sucked real bad. Thank you for this footage. The gulf coast still stands strong today and always will. We came together. And that is what matters.
I lived on Myretle Street in Biloxi and was surrounded on 3 sides by water. I lost everything I owned. Mississippi took the direst hit, New Orleans went under water because of the levees. Haley Barber didn't exactly help get MS the attention it needed but then he is Bush's buddy. He was also the genius that sent away the floating hospital from Pascagoula, when our own hospitals went down., citing that it was illegal. Like the hurting and injured people would give a shit about that! HB -POS
@indnbeaut I will never understand why the people on the coast never attempted to force that fat pig out of office. Many Mississippians from the rest of the state would have joined you.
Thank you very much for posting this video! The music was definitely appropriate and something to make all of us think about how fragile life can be sometimes.
I just drove down 90, for the first time ever. I'm horrified. 4 years later, the devastation 4 blocks in is total. The beachfront was erased all the way from Gulfport to Biloxi. I can imagine the pain and sorrow of residents who have lost all their history and beautiful old landmarks. It's amazing that the press never covered this! The gulf suffered way more than New Orleans. They were erased...so many foundations and steps to nothing, remind me of graveyards and skeletons. My prayers to all.
@takeoutdeliveryboy Biloxi has a history older than new orleans. Ocean springs was the first established city of lousianna, and Biloxi had been the capital.
As the fourth anniversary nears, I constantly think about Hurricane Katrina and the day it devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I remember going to the hurricane shelter Sunday night before the storm. When we emerged on Wednesday morning, we all found out our houses were gone and no supplies were available. I still love the Biloxi area and my heart breaks to think of what happened there. Thank you for this compelling video.
Im glad the media left us alone here. It allowed us to get to work and get back to as normal as we could get. Its nice when the Media isn't following you form call to call just to get that footage of someone after the storm. I personally told a few reports to back off and get out of my way while pulling up to the hospitals.
This still makes me sad...even after 4 yrs. I lived on the AL gulf coast, and although my house was spared, I drove thru parts of Biloxi, Bay St. Louis, Ocean Springs, Waveland 4 months after Katrina hit & it was still devastating. Steps leading to no where STILL haunt me. Thanks for the video.
In Biloxi, or the Ms. coast,You didn't see videos of people stealing flat screen tv;s or shooting at police,,or people hijacking the boats of people trying to rescue them.
My Name Is Mark Mcmullin. I grew up in Biloxi, off Popp's ferry road, in Holly Hills. I used to fish on the rock pile by Treasure Bay Casino. recognize the place. I fished for Reds and specks, and Flounder berfore they had gambling!! I miss Biloxi,,And I love Biloxi! Biloxi suffered more then N.O. in My Opinion. Yet N.O. gets all the attention. It's because they are all Black?? Looking for handouts,,,,,,,,,They should be ashamed,,,,,,They are using the "Race Card",,That's my Opinion,,,,
I live in Biloxi and came home to a slab of concrete where my house used to be. I appreciate this video and every other that shows the realization that Katrina hit Biloxi rather than New Orleans. The eye of the storm actually came closer to Biloxi than New Orleans... Biloxi will never be the same and it is upsetting. Thank you for this video though. ^^

We lost our home in Katrina...it's nice to see someone remembering Mississippi instead of New Orleans..they had a lot of problems with Katrina, but the Gulf Coast of MS was almost completely destroyed. Thanks for remembering MS!!!
AMEN! I'm SOOOOO sick of hearing about New Orleans! Yes, they had major destruction (I lived there, have friends and family there and I'm SORRY about New Orleans, I truly am). However, Mississippi and Alabama got hit hard, as well! Ya EVER hear about Bayou la Batre? Nope. JUST New Orleans!
I have lived there for two years, for the construction of the imperial palace, I was in charge of drywall works for briscoe drywall co. I hope all the people works for me in that time be fine your friend juan.
I have lived in biloxi for the 14 years of my life and I was 11 when this strom hit. My uncle stayed home when we all left, I was so scared that I thought he was dead, but thanks to god's watching hands he was saved. South Mississippi got the worst of this storm and we are working hard to become strong again. I know that our home on the mississippi gulf coast we be better then it was before and that was will never left a storm get out spirts down ever again, because we will be strong.

Biloxi and the Gulf Coast became an after thought after the media focused on all of the chaos happening in New Orleans. I work and live in Biloxi and I am still amazed when people visit from all parts of the country and can't believe the destruction that happened.I think the reason that is because N.O. got all of the attention in the media and continues to. Biloxi and the G.C. may not have the history of N.O. or character but we matter!

dont diss n.o but mississippi u guys r doing better than n.o u know why cause u didnt wait for fuckin fema i hope new orleans people see my comment u need to find a way
Im was in that storm. It was THE worst thing i have EVER been through. The smells of mold and death was horrible! I lived in biloxi for a REALLY long time and we were in long beach/pass christian (which got hit harder than biloxi) and there was bodies and shit everywhere. It was horrible. I'll never forget what i saw when we first opened the door after the storm ended. And the smells. But mississippians are strong and we will rebuild. I miss and love that town SO much!!
The large boat like buildings are casinos. The gaming laws in MS required them to be over water. Now they can be on land, within a certain distance from the water.
Also, keep in mind that the MS Gulf Coast is not like a lot of coastal areas where only the ultra-affluent live near the water. There were many affordable rental properties near the coastline that people rented because the properties were near the bus lines.
I think this video obviously sheds some light on just how serious the damage is compared to New Orleans. This is my hometown, and it makes me tear up everytime. Thanks for showing this video.
I personally thinks its stupid to rebuild in aplace thats gonna eventually be destroyed again.but we are head headed.and thier gonna continue to be heartache, everytime shit like this happens
if your house burns down, DO NOT REBUILD THERE! After all another fire could show up.... Think! Before you say those things that so many non-thinkers have said for the past two years. Should they close down California? What about tornadoes? Geez you people are so short-sighted! I have been through every storm since Audry in 1957! We get on just fine. Everybody is not New Orleans! We fix our own here in Mississippi! You stay right there in tornado alley (Arkansas) DUH?

ACTUALLY I dont live in Arkansas,im a Texan.I live on the border with Arkansas, trust me thier is a difference.and yeah I can see your point.and even though it says that I made these comments 1 month ago ,it was more like 2. who hell knows what I was thinking
not the same as building under sea level all those other disasters COULD affect you but u cant fight water it will be where it belongs regardless of what we do
However, the last time any significant flooding occured in New Orleans was 1964 with Hurricane Betsy. In fact New Orleans was not damaged by Katrina! They were parying in the streets in celebrations of dodging Katrina that night (Sept 29, 2005). They were in fact the victims of 50 years of corrupt polititians including the inept Nagin administration, who chose NOT to use the money they were given for levy improvements. Then blame Bush! (What a bunch of morons the "blame-Bush" crowd are).
You are right on with your comments! Money was given to NO for levees but was used for other things. So, when the levees break, who do they blame? The very government which gave them money to fix it - yet they chose not to. It is unbelievable to me that Nagin still has a job - he has got to be totally useless.
As for the Mississippi Coast, you couldn't drag me away! We are above sea level and are more than willing to live with the idea that an occasional storm will come as other disasters do any place else. We always rebuild and live on, just like tornado alley, California earthquakes, fires and mudslides, Ohio River flooding, any river flooding, snow storms (you can't stop those...can you?), House fires, just to name a few reasons NOT to live elsewhere.
any one who thinks we are scum for still living on the gulf coast after all these hurricanes can fucken kiss my ass k? us being down here after all of it just shows we have that strong of a will to stay survive and recovery IN OUR HOME
UPDATE 10/08/2007 >> From Hurricane Ian: We are in the process of remastering all of our videos from the origional video tapes. Please check back as we will be updating these videos between October and December 2007. This should fix the blur problem.
new orleans didnt get the worst of the storm.. i live in St.Bernard/plaquamans everyone got water anywhere from 6to 18 feet of water.. i got 13 feet... new orleans hat the left side of the storm.. which is the better side..
I'm from the gulf coast we are still recovering. Casinos have built back along with that many condo developments have gone up. I give it another 5 years to be back to normal
The coast is coming back. The Hard Rock just opened yesterday. They're coming along with the Biloxi/Ocean Springs Bridge n the Bay St. Louis one too. They got a few lanes open on the Bay St. Louis one. They have alot of casinos open too. I live in Gautier.
