Goku reaches legendary Super Saiyan (SS4), the main villain has something to do with Goku's life besides enemies revenge from a previous arc, and Goku's is left possibly dead and nothing more than a spirit without its halo. All of the DB trilogy is about Goku's life, and DBGT shows how meaningful his life is as opposed to DBZ.

What's Freeza have to do with Goku's life? Freeza didn't even know who Goku was nor did he give a damn. All the he did was blow up Planet Vegeta. He had no part in Goku getting sent to Earth or anything.

And Dragon Ball is not all about Goku. Z much more has to do with Gohan and the newer generation.

GT is pretty much a spin-off anime continuation of dragonball Z so him calling it a grand side story which he did do doesn't actually make it part of the main dbz canon. (similar to how the dbz movies are for the most part non-canon but are more side stories or what-if scenarios.)

@Revix77 Dragon Ball Z movies are indeed what-if scenarios. Especially since the events they fit in the anime don't make sense. Janemba takes place after Goku becomes a SS3 on screen for the first time. Though DBGT is a what-if continuation. There is no true sequal to DBZ. DBGT is one of them. DBO is another one.

It's only the Android arc that comes close to focusing on someone else as Goku was meant to pass the torch to Gohan as the main hero. But Akira decided that Gohan was unfit as the hero, so then he wrote the Boo arc because of it.

The difference between DBZ and DBGT is that DBGT is left to the fans to decide whether or not Goku died. DBGT was more exciting, DBZ was like "Hey guys, I'm going to be training off with Uub, by!"

As for Gohan, he did get a lot of focus. Especially in the Saiyan arc. But Goku was still the protagonist.

Akira felt Gohan was unsuited. He said this in an interview.

@anti4kids2000 pretty positive that parts of the bardock storyline are included in the manga. but putting that aside the bardock storyline is only really canon due to dbz since db is sorta akira toriyama's take on Journey to The West with obvious references (although that's my opinion.) and the concept of sayian or aliens isn't really present with goku just being a simple monkey tailed boy.

That's probably because DBZ wasn't meant to "end", it was just Toriyama saying "this is where I stop telling the story". It's implied there are still more adventures afterwards, we just don't get to see them. GT really "ended" it.

Like when super android 19, Nobody could even land a scratch on him, but when Goku punched him once, hey flew halfway across the Earth.

There is so wrong with Goku being overpowered. It just got so damn boring with them constantly just leveling up and bashing the opponent's face in. There was a lot less focus on humor and actual adventure as time went on until it got to the Buu Saga. Super Saiyan 3 was already getting pretty damn rediculous.

Logo, character designs that appear in the first few episodes, the desert planet are examples of things that were drawn by Toriyama himself.....even Vegeta with a mustache.

I've been waiting for them to release the ORIGINAL Dragon Ball Dragon Box in America, but so far nothing =( Ever since Z got big no one in the states even bats an eye at the original stuff anymore.

Me? I grew up with imported tapes of the original Dragon Ball from Japan and my parents collected the manga before anything was dubbed here. Only one or two of the mangas were during the Z portion.

@edward18517 If i remember well Dragon ball z was supposed to end in frieza saga so it would end goku being the legendary super saiyan and killing frieza avenging the saiyans but akira toriyama made a contract to make more mangás and he had to make cell saga and buu saga. and DBO already have the taiwanese version it´s easy to create an account there.
